OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1 Safety
The safety aspects of this appliance comply with the accepted technical
standards and the German Appliance Safety Law. However, we also
consider it our obligation as a manufacturer to make you aware of the
following safety information.
Electrical Safety
Installation and connection of the new appliance is only to be per-
formed by an approved electrician.
Please observe this instruction, otherwise the warranty will not cover
any damage that may occur.
Repairs to the appliance are only to be performed by qualified service
engineers. Improper repairs can give rise to significant hazards. If
your appliance needs repairing, please contact our customer service
or your dealer.
If your appliance malfunctions or fractures, cracks or splits appear:
switch off all cooking zones,
switch off the fuse for the cooking surface or remove it.
Child Safety
The cooking zones become hot when you are boiling or browning food.
For this reason, always keep children away from the cooking surface.
Safety Whilst Using
This appliance may only be used for boiling and frying food in the
home.
Do not use the cooking surface to heat the room.
Take care when plugging in electrical appliances near the appliance.
Mains leads must not touch the hot rings.
Overheated fat and oil can catch fire quickly. Please always stay close
to the cooking surface when preparing food in fat or oil (e.g. chips).
Switch off the cooking zones after use.
Safety When Cleaning
Cleaning the appliance with a steam or high pressure cleaner is forbid-
den for safety reasons.
Operating Instructions
5
In this way you avoid damaging your appliance
Do not use the cooking surface as a work surface or for storage.
Do not operate the cooking zones with empty pans or without pans.
Glass ceramic is insensitive to temperature shock and very robust,
however it is not unbreakable. Hard and sharp objects, in particular,
can damage the cooking surface if they fall onto it.
Do not use cast iron pans or pans with damaged bases that are rough
or burred. Scratching may occur when the pans are slid.
Do not place any pans on the cooking surface frame. Scratching may
occur or the paint may be damaged.
Ensure that liquids containing acids, e.g. vinegar, lemon or scale
remover do not get on the cooking surface frame because otherwise
matt spots will appear.
If sugar, or food containing sugar gets onto a hot cooking zone and
then melts, remove it immediately whilst still hot using a scraper. If
the mass cools, damage to the surface may occur on removal.
Keep all items and materials that can melt away from the glass
ceramic surface, e.g. plastics, aluminium foil, or oven foils. If some-
thing of this nature should melt on the glass ceramic surface, it must
also be removed immediately using the scraper.
If you wish to use special types of pan (e.g. a pressure cooker, sim-
mering pan, wok, etc.), please observe the manufacturers instruc-
tions.

Before using for the first time
Initial Cleaning
0 Wipe the glass ceramic cooking surface with a damp cloth to remove
any traces left over from manufacturing.
1
Important: Do not use any caustic or abrasive cleaners! The surface
could be damaged.
Suitable Pans
By using suitable pans, you avoid damage to the appliance.
The base should be as thick and flat as possible. Rough bases scratch
the cooking surfaces when slid.
Pans made of cast iron or with rough edges and burrs can leave per-
manent scratches.
1
Important: Avoid pans boiling dry. The bases could be irreparably
damaged in the process and the glass ceramic cooking surface dam-
aged.
Operating Instructions
9
Using the Rings
3
When the cooking zones are switched on they may hum briefly. This is a
characteristic of all glass ceramic cooking zones and does impair the
function or life of the appliance.
3
The rings are operated using the ring switches on the cooker or
switch box, operation is described in the respective instructions.
Residual Heat Indicator
Your glass ceramic cooking surface is equipped with a residual heat
indicator, this illuminates as soon as a cooking zone is warm and warns
against inadvertent touching.
1
Important! As long as the residual heat indicator is illuminated, there is
a risk of burns.
Also when the cooking zone is switched off, the residual heat indicator
only goes out when the cooking zone has cooled down.
2
You can use the residual heat for melting and keeping food warm.
Operating Instructions
10
Usage, Tips
Pans
The better the pan, the better the results.
You can recognise good pans by their bases. The base should be as
thick and flat as possible.
Pans with aluminium or copper bases can leave metallic discoloration
on the glass ceramic surface that is very difficult or impossible to
remove.
Do not use cast iron pans or pans with damaged
bases that are rough or burred. Permanent
scratching may occur when the pans are slid.
When cold, pan bases are normally bowed slightly
inwards (concave). They should under no circum-
stances be bowed outwards (convex).
2
Tips on Saving Energy
You will save valuable energy if you observe the following tips:
Always place pans on the cooking zone before switching on.
Soiled cooking zones and pan bases increase elec-
tricity consumption.
If possible, always fit pans with a lid.
Switch off the cooking zones before the end of
cooking to make use of the residual heat, e.g. to
keep food warm or for melting.
The pan base and cooking zone should be the
same size.
When purchasing pans pay attention to the
diameter of the base. Manufacturers often state
the diameter of the top of the pan.
Cooking times are reduced by up to 50% when a
pressure cooker is used.

Cleaning and Care
Cooking Surface
1
Important: Cleaners must not be used on the hot glass ceramic sur-
face! Following cleaning, all cleaners must be removed with plenty of
clear water because they may have a caustic effect when the cooking
surface is next heated!
Do not use any aggressive cleaners such as, e.g. grill or oven sprays,
coarse scourers or abrasive pan cleaners.
3
Clean the glass ceramic surface after each use, when it is still warm to
the touch or cold. By this means you will avoid spills becoming burnt
on.
Remove scale and water marks, drops of fat and metallic shimmering
discoloration with a commercially available glass ceramic or stainless
steel cleaner, e.g. using "Sidol-Edelstahlglanz", "Stahl-Fix", "WK-Top" or
"Cillit".
Light Soiling
0 1. Wipe the glass ceramic surface with a damp cloth and a little washing
up liquid.
2. Then rub dry with a clean cloth. Remnants of cleaner must not be left
on the surface.
3. Thoroughly clean the entire glass ceramic cooking surface once a week
with a commercially available glass ceramic or stainless steel cleaner.
4. Then wipe off the glass ceramic surface with plenty of clear water and
rub dry with a clean, fluff-free cloth.
Stubborn Soiling
0 1. To remove food that has boiled over or
stubborn splashes, use a glass scraper.
2. Hold the glass scraper at an angle to the
glass ceramic surface.
3. Remove soiling by sliding the blade.
3
You can obtain glass scrapers and glass
ceramic cleaner from specialist retailers.
Operating Instructions
12
1 Problem dirt
0 1. Remove burnt on sugar, melted plastic,
aluminium foil or other materials that
can melt immediately, whilst still hot,
using a glass scraper.
1
Important: When using the glass scraper
on the hot cooking zone there is a risk of
burns!
2. Then clean the cooking surface normally
when it has cooled down.
3
If the cooking zone on which something
has melted has already cooled down, warm it up again for cleaning.
Scratches or dark marks on the glass ceramic cooking surface caused,
e.g. by pan bases with sharp edges, cannot be removed. However they
do not impair the function of the cooking surface.
Cooking Surface Frame
1
Important! Do not put vinegar, lemons or scale removers on the hob
frame, otherwise mat spots will appear.
0 1. Wipe the frame with a damp cloth and a little washing up liquid.
2. Soften dried soiling with a wet cloth. Then wipe off and rub dry.

for the user. If your appliance needs repairing, please contact your spe-
cialist dealer or customer service.
