SUPPLEMENTAL ASSEMBLY AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS for
the BCS-powered Version of the Wallenstein Logsplitter
Attach the BCS power cradle to the tractor's PTO studs, with the third hole on the top
side (the third hole is used to attach the cradle to the 948).
The power cradle is serviced with SAE80-90 gear oil. Once the cradle is mounted to the
tractor, the oil should be checked by removing the check plug located on the lower right
side of the housing. If the oil level is low, add it through the top plug, which also serves as
a vent for the gearbox. When adding oil, fill until oil begins to flow out the check plug hole.
Replace the plugs -- do not overfill.
Mount the female bushing of the quick hitch (92290827) to the two studs located on either
side of the power cradle's output shaft.
Next, install the curved coupling to the logsplitter. When attaching to tractor models 722
or 732, use coupler #92259500. When attaching to models 853 or 948, use coupler
#92247720. In all cases, rotate the tractor's handles so that the splitter will be mounted as
a front-mount attachment.
After checking that the logsplitter is in its horizontal mode position, it is now ready to
attach to the tractor. First, insert the curved coupler into the tractor hitch, which is located
above the PTO studs. Secure with the drop pin and clip. Next, insert the tang attached to
the splitter's hydraulic pump into the bushing of the power cradle. Lock into position by
lowering the red lever.
After checking to assure that the hydraulic hoses are properly routed and the stabilizing
jack is in its raised position, the unit is now ready for transport. We recommend the use of
one of the slower tractor gears (1st or 2nd).
Once reaching the job site, locate the unit on level ground and shift the wheel speed
selector to neutral.
Adjust the throttle lever to the full throttle position and secure the red operator presence
control lever to the handle grip with either an elastic or velcro strap. Note: the safety
control for the logsplitter is the operator's control lever, which must be held forward during
the entire splitting stroke.
Lower the splitter's adjustable jack to the ground and lock in place for added stability. If
the vertical mode of splitting is desired, adjust the splitter, as per the Wallenstein's manual.
Next, squeeze the clutch and engage the splitter by pulling the PTO rod toward you. As
you slowly release the clutch lever, maintain a light pressure on the PTO rod to make sure
that it is fully engaged.
Proceed with your splitting project, according to the instructions in the Wallenstein
manual. If you have questions/concerns, please contact your BCS dealer or BCS's
technical service (800-543-1040).
