operators and/or person(s) servicing the mower. Should the mower be resold, this manual must remain

with the mower.

publication. Dixie Chopper reserves the right to change, modify, and/or discontinue specications and/

or design without notice. If there is a change that has been made to your mower which is not shown

or reected in this manual, please see your authorized Dixie Chopper Mower dealer before operating

and/or servicing the equipment.

Warranty Policies

There are no understandings, agreements, representations, or warranties expressed or implied (including but not lim-

ited to any regarding the merchantability or tness for a particular purpose), not specied herein, regarding the equip-

ment which is the subject of this warranty.

Owner/Operator Knowledge Responsibility

As a condition of the Dixie Chopper warranty, the owner and operator(s) are fully responsible for having read, and

reasonably understood the proper operation and care of the Dixie Chopper Mower before attempting to operate the

mower.

Through the terms and conditions contained herein, Magic Circle Corporation and Dixie Chopper warrants that it will

adjust, repair, or replace any factory original part used in the manufacturing of a Dixie Chopper complete unit, found to

be defective in material or workmanship.

Complete Unit

The warranty period is limited to two years from the date of retail purchase on behalf of the original owner of a Dixie

Chopper Mower. This warranty will provide the cost of repair or replacement ( at the discretion of Dixie Chopper) of

the defective part, including labor. This warranty applies in like form to the original retail purchaser of a Dixie Chopper

Mower used commercially, or for income producing purposes. Additionally, Dixie Chopper will provide to the original

purchaser beyond the initial 2 year warranty as stated above, replacement of any main frame, front fork and castor

bearings, steering levers and linkages due to breakage, or any stainless steel body due to rust, for the useful life period

of the machine. This additional “lifetime warranty” covers stated parts only...no labor.

Deck Spindle Assembly

Parts and labor for the replacement of the complete deck spindle assembly (deck hub, deck spindle bearings, deck hub

spacer, and blade spindle shaft), of the Dixie Chopper Mower will be warranted for three years from the retail purchase

date on behalf of the original owner against defects in materials or workmanship.

Hydro-Drive-Train

Hydro-drive components (pumps, wheel motors, and T-box), of the Dixie Chopper Mower will warranted for two years

from the retail purchase date on behalf of the original owner against defects in materials or workmanship.

Generac Engine

The Generac engine used on the Dixie Chopper Mower is warranted for period of three years from the retail purchase

date on behalf of the original owner against defects in materials or workmanship. Labor required for engine warranty

will be covered by Dixie Chopper for the rst two years and at the unit owners expense during the third year.

Tires, Blades, and Belts

Tires, blades, clutch shoes, and belts are considered to be consumable wear items, and are therefore warranted for an

initial period of 90 days against materials or workmanship defects, not for wear or abuse.

Replacement Parts (Customer proof of purchase required)

Dixie Chopper replacement parts are warranted for 90 days against defects in materials & workmanship. (Hydro

pumps and motors must be dealer installed). Coverage is for parts replacement only...no labor, and does not pertain to

improper installation or abuse.

Battery Warranty

Dixie Chopper original equipment batteries are warranted against OEM factory defects in materials or workmanship

(“discharged only and abuse” are not covered). If battery failure occurs within six months of mowers original retail pur-

chase date, purchase of battery will be reimbursed ($30-$50 depending on model). Battery failures occurring beyond

six months but less than one year from original retail purchase date will be reimbursed at 50% of the cost of the stan-

dard replacement battery.

Transportation for Warranty Repairs

A Dixie Chopper Mower (including any defective part(s) requiring warranty repair, must be returned to an authorized

Dixie Chopper Service Dealer within the warranty period. The expense of transporting the unit to and from the dealer

for warranty work will be the responsibility of the mower owner.

Limitation of Warranty

The Product Registration/Dealer Delivery Certication must be mailed to Dixie Chopper within three days of the original

retail purchase date to enable accurate validation of the warranty period provided. Proof of purchase may be required

( invoice & copy of product registration) from the unit owner to substantiate any warranty claim.. All warranty work must

be performed by an authorized Dixie Chopper Servicing Dealer, using only Dixie Chopper OEM parts.

This warranty covers only Dixie Chopper Mower complete units that are registered with the factory when purchased

new, properly maintained, and operated under conditions considered normal for commercial turf equipment.

Optional Extended Warranty Programs

5 Year Extended Generac-Engine Warranty ($895) (5 Year

Coverage from Purchase Date) This is an extension of the original three year warranty

issued by Dixie Chopper and is subject to the same limitations. Please see Guardian Generac

Engine owner’s manual for details of the original warranty. This warranty will be administered by

the Dixie Chopper Service/Warranty Department (800-307-2667). Dixie Chopper will, at its

discretion, pay for (parts only), the replacement of the engine, or any of its components that fail due to

defects in material or workmanship, for a period of ve years from the original date of purchase.

Five Year Extended Deck Spindle Asm. Warranty($199)* (5-Years Coverage from Purchase

Date) This ve year extended warranty covering the complete deck spindle assembly (deck hub,

deck spindle bearings, deck hub spacer, and blade-spindle shaft), of the Dixie Chopper complete unit

will be warranted for ve years from the retail purchase date on behalf of the original owner against

defects in materials or workmanship. The 4th and 5th year are parts only, no labor.

Dixie Chopper will replace all or part of the assembly at its discretion.

Five-Year Extended Hydro-Drive-Train Warranty ($599)* (5-Years Coverage from Purchase Date)

Dixie Chopper offers a three-year extended parts warranty covering hydro-drive-train components.

Purchasing the three-year extended parts warranty provides to the original purchaser from date of

purchase...

2 years Parts & Labor, plus an additional 3-years Parts Only warranty coverage. This means

for 5 years, if hydro-drive-train components (wheel motors, pumps & pulleys, T box & pulley,

hydro hoses, ttings, gaskets, drive linkages, bushings, wheel hubs, or wheel rims), as part

of the machine, require replacement due to a defect in materials or workmanship, Dixie Choper

will cover the cost of needed replacement part(s) is included. During the rst 2 years of warra-

nty coverage, labor for the necessary replacement of the part(s) is included. During years

3 through 5, labor for the necessary replacement of the part(s) will be the responsibility of the

machine owner.

Read the Manual

The operator’s manual contains important safety information

you need to be aware of BEFORE you operate your unit as

well as DURING operation.

Safe operating techniques, an explanation of the product’s

features and controls, and maintenance information is

included to help you get the most out of your equipment

investment.

Be sure to completely read the General Safety Precaution

section, found in this manual. Also completely read the Start

Up and Operating section.

Children

Tragic accidents can occur with children. Do not allow them

anywhere near the area of operation. Children are often

attracted to the unit and mowing activity. Never assume that

children will remain where you last saw them. If there is a

risk that children may enter the area where you are mowing,

have another responsible adult watch them.

Slope Operation

Operation on slopes can be dangerous. Using the unit on a

slope that is too steep where you do not have adequate wheel

traction (and control) can cause sliding, loss of

steering, control, and possible rollover. You should not

operate on a slope greater than a 5.4 foot rise over a 20 foot

length (15 degrees).

Always mow across slopes, not up and down (to maintain

traction on the wheels) and avoid sudden turns or rapid speed

changes. Reduce speed and use extreme caution on ALL

slopes.

Also, note that the surface condition you are on can greatly

impact your ability to safely operate this machine. Operating on

wet or slippery slopes can cause sliding and loss of

steering and control. Do not operate on slopes that are

slippery, wet, or have soft soil conditions.

If you feel unsure about operating the unit on a slope, don’t do

it. It’s not worth the risk.

Thrown Objects

This unit has spinning mower blades. These blades can pick up and throw

debris that could seriously injure a bystander. Be sure to clean up the

area to be mowed and remove objects that could be thrown by the blade

BEFORE you start mowing.

This mower is equipped with an Operator Controlled Discharge Chute

(OCDC). Do not operate mower if OCDC is not properly attached. This

discharge chute has a variable adjustment from fully open to fully closed.

In the closed position it will serve to keep some of the clipped material

under the mower deck for a longer period of time, in order to enhance the

mulching capabilities, as well as function as a discharge safety shield.

This discharge chute should ALWAYS BE OPERATED IN THE DOWN

POSITION WHEN MOWING, WHILE PEOPLE ARE PRESENT IN THE

IMMEDIATE VICINITY.

Do not allow anyone in the area while the unit is running! If someone does

enter the area, shut the unit off immediately until they leave.

Moving Parts

This equipment has many moving parts that can injure you

or someone else. However, if you stay in the operator zone

(stay seated in the seat), and follow the safety rules in this

operator’s manual, the unit is safe to operate.

The mower deck has spinning mower blades that can am-

putate hands and feet. Do not allow anyone near the unit

while it is running! Keep safety devices (guards, shields, and

switches) in place and working.

To help you, the operator, use this equipment safely, it is

equipped with an operator-presence control system. Do

NOT attempt to alter or bypass the system. See your dealer

immediately if the system does not pass all the safety inter-

lock system tests found in this manual.

Roll Bar Use

Keep the roll bar in the raised position and fasten the seat

belt. There is no roll over protection when the roll bar is in

the down position! Do not jump off if the mower tips (it is

safer to be secured by the seat belt with the roll bar raised).

Lower the roll bar only when necessary (such as to tempo-

rarily clear a low overhanging obstacle) and NEVER remove

it. Do NOT use the seat belt when the roll bar is down.

Raise the roll bar as soon as clearance permits.

Retaining Walls, Drop-offs, and Water

Retaining walls and drop-offs around steps and water are

a common hazard. Give yourself a minimum of two mower

widths of clearance around these hazards and hand-trim with

a walk behind mower or string trimmer. Wheels dropping

over retaining walls, edges, ditches, embankments, or into

water can cause rollovers, which may result in serious injury,

death, or drowning.

Overhead Obstacles

Check for overhead clearances before driving under any

objects. Do not allow the roll bar to contact low overhanging

obstacles such as tree branches and guide wires.

Fuel and Maintenance

Always disengage all drives, shutoff the engine, and remove

the key before doing any cleaning, refueling, or servicing.

CNG and vapors are extremely ammable. Do not smoke

while operating or refueling. Do not add fuel while engine

is hot or running. Allow engine to cool for at least 3 minutes

prior to adding fuel.

Do not add fuel indoors, in an enclosed trailer, garage, or any

other enclosed area that is not well ventilated.

Proper maintenance is critical to the safety and performance

of your unit. Keep the unit free of grass, leaves, and excess

oil. Be sure to perform the maintenance procedures listed in

this manual, especially periodically testing the safety system.

Enclosed Areas

Only operate this unit outdoors and away from unventilated

areas such as inside garages or enclosed trailers. The en-

gine emits poisonous carbon monoxide gas and prolonged

exposure in an enclosed area can result in serious injury or

death.

Using This Manual

The general operation, adjustment, and maintenance procedures contained in this manual are meant

for both the beginner and the experienced Dixie Chopper operator. Obviously, operating conditions

will vary greatly for each person’s situation; every individual case cannot be addressed here. With ex-

perience, operators should have no trouble developing good operating skills for the safe and effective

handling of most conditions.

Unless otherwise stated, the directional references used in this manual, forward, backward, right or

left, refer to an operator orientation of being seated on the mower, facing forward.

Illustrations and photographs used in this manual were current at the time of the printing of the man-

ual. However, production changes may have occurred after the time of the purchase of your Dixie

Chopper; therefore, your unit may vary slightly from what is depicted in this manual.

Dixie Chopper reserves the right to change, modify, alter, or improve the design of the machine, as

deemed necessary by Dixie Chopper, without notication to existing owners or purchasers of the

machines. If your machine does not appear to be congured exactly as reected in this operation

manual, or the parts manual, contact your authorized Dixie Chopper dealer for current information

and parts.

1. Know the location and function of the controls and how to operate them. Know how to stop quickly.

READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS OPERATION MANUAL AND THE INSTRUCTIONS FURNISHED

WITH ATTACHMENTS BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO OPERATE THIS MOWER.

2. Do not allow children to operate machine. Do not allow adults to operate machine without proper

instruction.

3. Do not carry passengers. Do not mow when children, pets, or others are present. The operator

is responsible for the safety of others within the vicinity of the operation of this mower.

4. Keep hands, feet, and clothing away from rotating blades or other rotating parts while engine is running.

5. Clear the work area of objects (wire, rocks, and debris of any kind) that can be picked up and

thrown by the mower, and possibly damage the equipment or cause personal injury to the operator

or bystanders.

6. Disengage all attachment clutches, set parking brake, and place steering speed control levers into neutral

lock (open) position before attempting to start engine.

7. Disengage power to attachments, stop engine, and remove ignition key before leaving the operator

position or leaving machine unattended.

8. Do not attempt to adjust or repair the mower deck, the drive system, the mower blades, or any moving

parts of the vehicle while the engine is running. You must disengage power to attachments, disengage

PTO, set parking brake, set steering control levers to neutral

lock, shut off the engine, and remove key before making any repairs or adjustments or attempting

any of the following tasks:

a. Deck pitch adjustment

b. Unclogging the chute

c. Checking blade mounting bolts for proper tightness at frequent intervals

d. Refueling

Failure to comply can result in personal injury or death.

9. Disengage power to attachments when transporting or not in use.

10. Attempting to use this mower on slopes exceeding 15 degrees is not recommended. Reduce

speed and exercise extreme caution on slopes to prevent tipping or loss of control. Be especially cautious

and slow down when changing directions on slopes. DO NOT mow slopes when grass is wet.

11. Stay alert for holes, rocks, and roots in the terrain which can cause the vehicle to upset. Keep away

from dropoffs.

12. When mowing uphill, avoid sudden stops to prevent tipping over. When mowing downhill, loss of traction

and/or braking ability can occur. To compensate, slightly increase ground speed and make

shallow turns gradually, until tighter control is regained.

13. Use care when pulling loads or using heavy equipment.

a. Use only approved drawbar hitch points.

b. Limit loads to those you can safely control.

c. Do not turn sharply. Use care when backing.

d. Use counterweights as advised in the Owner’s Manual.

14. Watch out for trafc when near to or crossing roads, and obey trafc laws. Disengage blades and

wait for them to stop before crossing gravel roads.

15. When using any attachments, never direct discharge of materials toward bystanders, nor allow anyone

near the vehicle while it is in operation.

16. Keep all nuts, bolts, and screws tight to be sure equipment is in safe working condition.

17. Allow engine to cool before storing in any enclosure.

18. Never attempt to operate mower while under the inuence of alcohol or drugs.

19. Exercise caution when using compressed natural gas (CNG).

a. Installation, inspection, and service shall be performed by qualied personnel.

b. Maximum text ll pressure not to exceed 125% of service pressure temperature corrected to 70 F.

c. If the CNG cylinder is involved in a collision, re, or becomes damaged, it must be depressurized and

removed from service for inspection.

d. The CNG cylinder should be visually inspected at least every 36 months.

20. Keep vehicle and attachments in good operating condition and keep safety devices, such as guards,

shields, and covers, in place and working.

21. Do not operate the mower or attachments if any guards are missing or not functioning properly.

22. Stop the mower and attachments, secure the mower, and inspect for damage after striking a foreign

object. Repair any damage before restarting and operating the equipment.

23. Do not change engine governor settings or overspeed the engine.

24. Disengage power to mower deck before backing up. No mower is designed to mow in reverse,

nor can it be safely operated in reverse. Dixie Chopper’s Zero Turning Radius eliminates the need for back

ing up. Simply turn the mower around within its own dimension and proceed forward.

25. Do not mow with mower blades that are out of balance or have eroded airlifts and/or split

ends.

26. Use personal protective equipment when operating mower or performing maintenance, such as (but

not limited to) protection for eyes, ears, feet, and head. Do not operate or service the mower when

barefoot or wearing open-toed sandals.

27. Use caution when handling mower blades during replacement or maintenance. Wear appropriate protective

gloves and clothing and cover the sharp cutting edges of the blades. Failure to comply can result in per-

sonal injury.

28. Operate mower only in daylight or good articial light.

29. If at all possible, do not operate mower when grass is wet.

30. Do not make sudden turns, stops, starts, reversals, or any abrupt maneuvers, especially

when negotiating slopes. The steering speed control arms are very responsive to slight movement. Rapid,

rough, or jerky manipulation of the steering speed control arms can result in damage to equipment and

personal injury.

31. Do not run the engine in an enclosure without adequate ventilation to the outside. Exhaust fumes contain

carbon monoxide which is odorless and deadly poisonous to humans. Failure to comply can result in

personal injury or death.

32. Do not work underneath the mower unless it is supported safely by jack stands with a safe working

load capacity of 1/2 ton or more, a hoist, or blocks. Failure to comply can result in personal injury or death.

33. Disconnect the spark plug wires and place the wires where they cannot contact spark plugs when setting

up, adjusting, doing repairs on, or transporting your mower. Mower can accidentally start if spark plug

wires are connected. Failure to comply can result in personal injury or death.

34. Do not touch hot parts of the mower. Failure to comply can result in personal injury.

35. Give complete and undivided attention to the job at hand.

In the realm of industrial lawn mowers, the

Xcaliber series is King. The Xcaliber CNG,

also known as the “Eco-Eagle”, is offered with a

cutting width of 66” and comes equipped with a

990cc Generac Engine that has been tuned to

run on CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), which

is considerably cheaper and much cleaner than

gasoline.

Serial Number Identication

The Serial number of you Dixie Chopper lawn-

mower is located on the Serial Number Decal.

This decal is located on the left side of the upper

cross-member under the seat and also on the

bottom side of the seat pan.

MOWER CONTROLS

Control/Indicator Name Control/Indicator Description

1. IGNITION SWITCH Controls electrical power to the mower. Switch has three positions: OFF--RUN--START.

In OFF position, no power ows to the mower electrical components. In RUN position,

power ows to all mower electrical components. In START position, electrical power ows

to the engine starter.

2. DECK ENGAGING

SWITCH (PTO)

Controls operation of the mower deck blades. Pull switch up to engage the mower blades,

and push it down to disengage the mower blades.

3. PARKING BRAKE LEVER Applies the brakes to hold the mower in a stationary position. Pull the lever up to set the

brakes and push it down to release the brakes.

4. THROTTLE CONTROL Controls engine speed. Moving the throttle all the way down sets the engine speed to

maximum. Moving the throttle all the way up sets the engine speed to idle.

5. STEERING SPEED

CONTROL LEVERS

Controls the speed and direction of the mower. Moving both levers forward causes the

mower to move forward and moving both levers backward causes the mower to back up.

Moving one lever forward will cause the mower to turn. The farther the levers are moved

forward or backward, the faster the mower will move in that direction. The levers may be

locked in neutral position by pushing both levers outward left and right to their respective

farthest points.

6. FUEL SUPPLY SHUT-OFF

VALVE

Controls the fuel supply from both tanks to the engine simultaneously.

7. FUEL REFILL VALVE Allows the user to rell both tanks simultaneously. (Fuel supply shut-off valve must be

open to allow to ow of fuel into the tanks)

8. ELECTRIC DECK LIFT

TOGGLE SWITCH

Controls the cutting height of the deck.

Do not run the mower engine in

conned areas such as a closed garage. Take care

not to inhale exhaust gases as they contain carbon

monoxide, which is a colorless, odorless gas that

can cause unconsciousness and is potentially lethal.

Failure to comply can result in damage to equipment

WARNING

Handle fuel with care. It is highly

ammable. Never add fuel while the engine is run-

ning or hot. Fill fuel tanks outdoors, never indoors.

Before starting the engine, be-

come familiar with all controls. Read and understand

this Operation Manual thoroughly. Always check for

proper engine oil level before starting engine. Failure

WARNING

To Start The Mower:

1. Place steering speed control levers in neutral

lock position.

2. Sit in mower seat.

3. Pull parking brake lever all the way up to set

parking brake.

4. Set throttle to 1/4-power position.

5. Open vavle on ONE CNG tank and turn red fuel

shut-off valve ON.

6. Turn ignition switch to the START position.

Release key after engine starts. Key will

automatically return to the RUN position.

NOTE: If the engine fails to start after 6-7

seconds of continuous cranking, turn the key to

the OFF position and allow the starter motor to

cool.

Start-Up and Operation of Mower

To Stop The Mower:

NOTE: In case of emergency, engine may

be stopped by turning the ignition key to the

OFF position.

1. Move steering speed control levers to neutral

position to stop mower movement.

2. Push deck engaging switch (PTO) down to

disengage mower deck blades.

3. Pull parking brake lever all the way up to set

parking brake.

4. Move throttle to the idle position.

5. Allow engine to idle for two minutes before

turning key off.

6. Turn ignition key to the OFF position and re-

move key, even if leaving mower unattended

for only a few minutes.

7. Close valves on CNG tanks and turn red fuel

shut-off valve OFF.

8. Using the toggle switch located on the right

fender, raise mower deck to highest position.

Safety Interlock System

The mower has a system of safety interlock switches that

will not allow the mower to start unless these conditions

are met:

• Steering speed control levers in

neutral lock position

• Deck engaging switch (PTO) off

If the seat is vacated during mowing, without position-

ing the controls as previously outlined, the engine will be

stopped by the safety interlock system.

To Mow:

1. Set mowing deck height to desired cut height

(if different from factory setting). (Refer to

Deck Height Adjustment for detailed instruc-

tions.)

2. Push parking brake lever all the way down to

release parking brake.

3. Set throttle to 50% of full RPM.

4. Engage mower deck by pulling up on deck

engaging switch (PTO).

5. Close steering speed control levers.

NOTE: Always set engine speed at full-

throttle when mowing, and maintain a minimum

of 3400 RPM and a maximum of 3750 RPM.

This engine speed will provide the necessary

airow through the engine cowling to prevent

overheating, and will maintain blade speed for

a satisfactory quality of cut. If the engine pulls

below 3400 RPM when under load, slow down

the ground speed and allow the engine to re-

cover up to the proper RPM.

6. Set throttle at the full-throttle position.

7. Steer and accelerate mower using the steering

speed control levers.

Deck Height Adjustment

Set the mowing deck appropriately to achieve the de-

sired height of your cut. The recommended cutting

height is 2-3 inches (5-7 cm), though your preference

may be a higher or lower cut. Tall grasses or weeds

should be cut with the mower deck set to its highest posi-

tion.

The rst time you mow, set the cut height to a little higher

than normal, then adjust accordingly as follows:

1. Refer to the deck height indicator decal located

on top of the height adjustment housing on the

right side of the oor pan.

2. Determine the appropriate hole setting for

your desired cut height.

3. Using the toggle switch on the right fender,

lift the deck.

4. Reposition the deck height pin to the selected

hole setting, then lower the deck using the toggle

switch. It will stop when it reaches the height

that has been designated.

Steering Speed Control Levers

The mower is equipped with a separate hydraulic pump

and motor for each rear wheel. The pumps are con-

trolled by the steering speed control levers. The left

lever controls the left rear wheel and the right lever con-

trols the right rear wheel.

DANGER

Do not move the steering speed

control levers too rapidly, or start and stop the

mower suddenly, especially on grades. Failure to

comply will result in personal injury or death.

To move forward, push both levers forward at the

same time, slowly and evenly.

To speed up the forward movement, push levers far-

ther forward away from you. The farther forward they

are pushed, the faster the mower will travel.

To turn, slow the mower’s ground speed, then further

slow the speed of the right wheel for a right-hand

turn, or the left wheel for a left-hand turn.

Refer to illustration shown below of steering speed

control levers’ position relative to mower wheels and

the direction in which the levers turn them. To move

in reverse, pull both levers backward at the same

time, slowly and evenly.

To speed up the backward movement, pull levers

farther back toward you. The farther back toward you

they are pulled, the faster the mower will travel.

To turn, slow the mower’s ground speed, then further

slow the speed of the right wheel for a right-hand

turn, or the left wheel for a left-hand turn.

Zero Radius Turning

To execute a zero degree turn, you must put one wheel in

reverse and one wheel in forward.

Until you have practiced this procedure and acquired a feel

for the machine, it is possible to damage the turf due to

an incorrect input. Please be aware, and mindful-of, it is

possible to pull the levers back toward the operator in such

a manner that the drive wheels will spin in reverse. This is

also true for the reverse direction, that is, if the machine is

traveling in a reverse direction and the levers are suddenly,

and quickly, pushed away from the operator, it is possible

that the drive wheels will attempt to spin forward. Failure to

follow the correct procedure for zero degree turns could re-

sult in damage to the turf. When learning the zero degree

turning procedure, use reduced engine RPM and extreme

caution. During this learning procedure, keep in mind that

slightly sluggish movements may occur due to the lowered

engine RPM. The pumps perform more precisely at the

higher RPM.

Moving the Mower Without Power

NOTE: Do not exceed a speed of 2 mph when moving the

mower without power.

If it becomes necessary to move the mower when the en-

gine is inoperative, the hydraulic pumps are equipped with

bypass valves. Before moving the unit, turn the 11/16” jam

nut and the 5/16” nut counter clockwise one or two turns

or until it releases. Always make certain the two bypass

valves are returned to their operating position before start-

ing the engine.

Optimum Performance = Best Results

The mower is designed to operate most efciently

at maximum blade speeds, which are achieved

with maximum engine speed. The ground speed

of the mower should allow the mower deck blades

to maintain that maximum efcient speed. There-

fore, slow the ground speed of the mower when

cutting tall grass, grass heavy with moisture, or

mowing uphill, so as to maintain maximum blade

speed.

If ground speed is too fast or blade speed is too

slow, an uneven cut will result.

Make sure that mower deck blades are sharp to

ensure the optimum quality of cut. Refer to Blade

Replacement and Blade Sharpening procedures

for detailed instructions on how to safely and

properly maintain and sharpen mower blades.

Operation Of The Mower With Mower Deck

Keep all shields and mower deck discharge chute, or OCDC, in place. Never attempt to clear dis-

charge areas or mower deck blades without disengaging mower deck, setting parking brake, shutting

off engine, and removing ignition key.

For best operation on average lawns, operate engine at 3400-3750 rpm; control ground speed with

motion control levers. Average lawns usually cut at a height between two and three inches (5-7.6 cm).

Tall grass and weeds should be cut with the mower in its highest position, making a second pass cut-

ting to height desired. Always keep mower deck blades sharp and balanced.

Mowing Speed

The mower is designed to operate most efciently at maximum blade speed (engine 3400-3750 rpm)

The speed of the mower should allow the mower deck blades to maintain this maximum speed while

mowing across turf. Slow the mower for cutting tall grass, grass that is heavy with moisture, or when

moving uphill. If ground speed is too fast, or blade speed is too slow, mowing will be uneven because

mower blades will not be able to lift grass into cutting position as mower passes over the ground.

Mowing Height

The best cutting height for you lawn has probably been established from previous experience. The

rst time you mow, set the mower to cut a little higher than you have in the past. This will help you de-

termine the best approach to uneven areas, to be sure a wider cut does not result in scalping the high

spots. In general, recommended cutting height is two to three inches (5-7.6 cm).

Very tall grass can be cut without difculty by using a little care. Set mower in its highest cutting posi-

tion and enter area slowly. If necessary, take a cut one half width of mower overlapping previously cut

area on each pass. Then, with mower set to desired height, make a nish cut over entire area.

OCDC (Operator Controlled Discharge Chute) Operation

This mower is equipped with an Operator Controlled Discharge Chute. This discharge chute has a

variable adjustment from full open to full closed.

In the full closed position it will serve to keep some of the clipping material under the mower deck

for a longer period of time, in order to enhance the mulching capabilities, as well as functioning as a

discharge safety shield. This discharge chute should ALWAYS BE OPERATED IN THE DOWN POSI-

TION WHEN MOWING, WHILE PEOPLE AR PRESENT IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY.

OCDC Controls

1. Handle - Used to raise and lower discharge chute.

2. Slotted Adjustment - Used to adjust position of

upper screen. May also be used to holdupper screen

between full open orfull closed. To adjust OCDC

screen move handle to raise or lower screento desired

position.

3. Upper Screen with optional bolt-on lower screen.
