Important Information
WARNING: ANY CHANGE TO THIS HEATER OR ITS
CONTROLS CAN BE DANGEROUS.
IMPORTANT: READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY
BEFORE INSTALLING.
WARNING:
Due to high temperatures, the appliance should be located
out of traffic and away from furniture and draperies.
Young children should be carefully supervised when they
are in the same room as the appliance. Children and adults
should be alerted to the hazard of high surface temperatures,
and should stay away to avoid burns or clothing ignition.
The appliance should be inspected before use and at least
annually by a professional service person. More frequent
cleaning may be required due to excessive lint from
carpeting, bedding material, et cetera. It is imperative that
control compartment, burners, and circulating air
passageways of the appliance should be kept clear. See
cleaning instructions.
DO NOT place clothing or other flammable materials on or
near the appliance.
Installation and repair should be done by a qualified
service person.
Any safety screen or guard removed for servicing an
appliance must be replaced prior to operating the heater.
This appliance is intended for supplemental heating”
This appliance must be installed only in a solid fuel
burning fireplace with a working flue and constructed of non-
combustible materials, or UL 127 factory built fireplace or in a
listed ventless firebox enclosure. Exception: DO NOT install this
appliance in a factory built fireplace that includes instructions
stating it has not been tested or should not be used with unvented
gas logs.
The appliance area must be kept free and clear of combustible
materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids. Solid
fuels shall not be burned in a masonry or UL 127 Factory-Built
Fireplace in which an unvented room heater is installed.
This appliance must only be used with pressures at the inlet
shown in Table 1.
The installation must conform with local codes, or in the
absence of local codes, with the NATIONAL FUEL GAS CODE
ANSIZ23.1/NFPA 54.
The appliance and its appliance main gas valve must be
disconnected from the gas supply piping system during any
pressure of that system at test pressures in excess of 1/2PSIG
(3.5 kPa).
The appliance must be isolated from the gas supply piping
system by closing its equipment shut off valve during any testing
of the gas supply piping system at test pressures equal to or less
than 1/2PSIG (3.5 kPa).
DO NOT use this heater in a bedroom, bathroom, or in a
recreation vehicle.
An unvented room heater having input rating of more than
10,000 Btu per hour shall not be installed in a bedroom or
bathroom.
DO NOT use this heater if any part has been under water.
Immediately call a qualified technician to inspect the appliance
and replace any part of the control system and any gas control
that has been under water.
ALWAYS OPERATE THE APPLIANCE AT THE MARKED
POSITIONS. NEVER OPERATE THE HEATER AT A SETTING
BETWEEN THESE POSITIONS, AS THIS COULD RESULT IN
IMPROPER COMBUSTION AND EXCESSIVE CARBON
MONOXIDE EMISSIONS.
WARNING: Glass doors must be in a fully open position when the
appliance is in operation.
Keep burner and control compartment clean. See installation and
operation instructions elsewhere in this manual.
WARNING: During manufacturing, fabricating, and shipping,
various components of this appliance are treated with certain oils,
films, or bonding agents. These chemicals are not harmful, but may
produce annoying smoke and smells as they are burned off during the
initial operation of this appliance, possibly causing headaches or eye
and lung irritation. This is a normal and temporary occurrence. The
initial break -in operation should last 2-3 hours with the burner at its
highest setting. Provide maximum ventilation by opening windows,
doors, and the chimney flue to allow odors to dissipate. Any odors
remaining after this initial break-in will be slight and disappear with
initial use.
The installation of appliances designed for manufactured homes
(U.S. Only) or mobile home installation must conform with the
standard in Canada, or with the
in the United States, or when such a standard is not
applicable,
Provide a 1/8 NPT plugged tapping accessible for test gauge
connection, immediately upstream of the gas supply connection to the
appliance.
This appliance can not be converted for use with other types of
gasses.
When used as an unvented heater, always ensure that there is
adequate ventilation for the room where the appliance is
operating. “This heater shall not be installed in a room or space
unless the required volume of indoor combustion air is provided by
the method described in the
.” “The
defines a confined space as a space whose volume is less than
50 cubic feet per 1,000 Btu per hour (4.8 m3 per kw) of the
aggregate input rating of all appliances installed in that space.
Rooms communicating directly with the space in which the
appliances are installed through openings not furnished by doors
are considered part of the unconfined space.
WARNING: If the area in which the heater may be operated does
not meet the required volume for indoor combustion air, combustion
and ventilation air shall be provided by one of the methods described
in the
or applicable local codes.
Unusually tight construction is defined as construction where:
(A) Walls and ceilings exposed to the outside atmosphere have a
continuous water vapor retarder with a rating of 1 perm (6x10-11 kg
per pa-sec-m 2) or less with openings gasketed sealed.
(B) Weather stripping has been added on openable windows and
doors.
(C) Caulking or other sealants are applied to areas such as joints
around windows and door frames, between sole plates and doors,
between wall and ceiling joints, between wall panels, at penetrations
for plumbing, electrical and gas lines and at other openings.
Example of room dimension limitations: If this appliance is listed at
40,000 Btu’s, then the room cannot be less than 50 cubic feet for each
1,000 Btu’s or 2000 Cubic Feet. As an example, if the room is 11 ft. Tall,
12 ft. Wide, and 14 ft. Deep (11x12x14 = 1848), then it must be
provided with adequate combustion and ventilation air.
This appliance is equipped with an ODS (oxygen depletion
sensor) pilot light safety system designed to shut itself off if not enough
fresh air is available. Additional ventilation may be obtained by
opening a door to another room or opening a ventilating window.
