E
CHANGING THE STANDARD FRONT PANELS
The front panels on Models D1706, D1716, D1776 and D1976
(except the stainless steel models) can be replaced with wood
panels.
PANEL DIMENSIONS
For standard, non-raised panels, use 1/16" to 1/4" material. For
custom raised panels, the decor trim will accept up to 1/4" flange.
The raised panel can be mounted on a backing sheet cut to fit as
shown on the right.
NOTE: The stainless steel panels do not have holes for custom
trim. You have to drill the holes.
INSTALLING THE PANEL
WARNING! Before working on any electrical appliance,
be sure the electrical power has been turned off at the
breaker/fuse box.
Refer to the illustration at bottom right for instruction references.
1. Remove the lower access panel with standard or 20 torx
screwdriver.
2. Carefully remove the plastic plugs around the edges of the
access panel and upper door panel. You may discard the
plugs.
3. Using the screws provided with the trim kit, loosely secure
parts A and C to the upper door panel.
4. Slide the upper panel into the trim kit grooves.
5. Tighten the screws holding parts A and C.
6. Secure part B and tighten screws.
7. Loosely screw part E to the lower access panel.
8. Slide the custom panel into trim kit channels and tighten the
screw to part E.
9. Secure part D of the trim kit and tighten the screws.
10. Secure the lower access panel to the dishwasher.
11. Drop the lower access panel to line up with the lower holes
on the guard plate and secure the screws. (Make sure the
exhaust vent is below the panel. Otherwise, steam from the
vent could eventually damage the panel.)
12. Before you push the dishwasher into the cabinet opening,
test the door to make sure it opens properly, (The door is
counter-balanced, so it should remain in any position.) If it
doesn’t, you may need to adjust the door springs (see page 8).
13. Fasten the dishwasher to the cabinet.

CUSTOM FRONT PANELS
The D1796FI and D1996FI can only be
installed with a fully-integrated custom
door panel that extends from the toe kick to
the counter top. A one-piece custom door
panel with a curved handle is available for
4-inch toe kick installations (see page 12).
Refer to page 8 for instructions on how to
install the custom panels.

Depth 23-7/16" 596 mm
*For fully-integrated installations, the
dishwasher’s total depth with the door open
can vary depending on the height of the toe
kick. The total depth for a 4" toe kick is
48-1/4", a 6" toe kick is 46-1/2". This
depth varies from the standard 46-1/2"
because in a 4" toe kick installation the
door panel is typically extended 1-3/4"
beyond the door (control panel) and this
lengthens the door. See page 9 for details.
NOTE: Maintain a 1/8" (3 mm) minimum
clearance between unit and cabinet.

The D1796FI and D1996FI can only be installed with a fully-
integrated custom door panel that extends from the toe kick to
the counter top. The unit comes with everything needed to make
installing the door panel easy. The door is predrilled for the
panel’s mounting screws.
The custom panel should be a minimum of 3/4" (19 mm) thick.
ITEMS PROVIDED WITH THE UNIT
Two 3/8" screws
Four 1-3/4" screws
Four adhesive-backed plastic spacer washers
ADJUSTING THE DOOR SPRINGS
Before you push the dishwasher into the cabinet opening, test the
door to make sure it stays in place at any angle. If it tends to fall
down, pull out the machine and tension the door
springs on the sides of the machine by moving
them one hole farther back or by twisting the
spring to make it shorter.
CUSTOM PANEL DIMENSIONS
Width: 23-1/2" (597 mm)
Height: 28-1/8"–30-1/8" (714 mm–765 mm)
(Measured from the top of the panel to the lower
edge of the kitchen cabinet.)
Thickness: Minimum 3/4" (19 mm)
Weight: Up to 22 lb.
INSTALLING THE CUSTOM PANEL
Before fitting the custom panel, the dishwasher must be installed
underneath the cabinet. After you’ve made the required
measurements, pull the machine out again to install the panel.
Refer to the illustration at right for instruction references.
1. Fit the handle (A) onto the panel according to the manufact-
urer’s instructions. (NOTE: A handle should be used rather
than a knob, because a knob does not provide enough grip.)
2. Remove the adhesive protection from the washers and place
them in line with the four keyholes (C) on the metal front of
the dishwasher door.
3. Loosen the screws (D) on the outer edges of the dishwasher
door.
4. Pull the turbo fan exhaust frame (E) down until the lower edge
aligns with the lower edge of the cabinets and tighten the
screws. Snap the plastic duct into the turbo fan exhaust vent.
WARNING! The custom panel must not
obstruct the fan exhaust vent; otherwise,
steam from the vent could eventually
damage the cabinet.
5. The two short screws (B) go into the back of the panel, 16-
3/16" (411 mm) from the upper edge of the panel and 5/8"
from the outer edges. Insert the short screws into the panel,
leaving 1/8" (3 mm) of space between the screw head and
the panel.
6. Hook the panel screws (F) into the keyholes (C) on the
dishwasher door.
7. Push the panel upwards until the lower edge aligns with the
lower edge of the cabinets and secure the screws.
WARNING! The custom panel should not extend more
than 2-15/16" (75 mm) below the bottom of the dish-
washer door; otherwise, it will strike the toe kick and
damage the machine and/or the panel.
FITTING THE D1796FI AND D1996FI CUSTOM DOOR PANEL
Shorten
8.Open the door and tighten the screws (F) inside.

4-INCH TOE KICK INSTALLATIONS
Custom panels the same height as the
dishwasher door
If the custom panel is the same height as the dishwasher door, a 2"
decorative fill strip or pull-out cutting board must be used to fill the
area between the panel and the counter top (as illustrated below).
If you install the door panel to reach the cabinet top, we
recommend that you install a 2" support strip between the upper
edge of the dishwasher and the counter to hide the top of the
dishwasher and further reduce water noise. A metal fill strip is
also available for this type of installation (see page 12).
With a 4-inch toe kick installation, the
door panel extends 2 inches above the
control panel, as illustrated.
Custom panels that extend to cabinet top
Another installation option for a 4" toe kick is to extend the
custom panel to the cabinet top (as illustrated below), which
eliminates the need for a decorative fill strip. A one-piece custom
door panel with a curved handle is available for 4-inch toe kick
installations (see page 12).
6-INCH TOE KICK INSTALLATIONS
For 6" toe kick installations, no decorative fill strips or support
strips are necessary.

NOTE: Maintain a 1/8" (3 mm) minimum
clearance between unit and cabinet.
EASYINSTALL SYSTEM
Every ASKO dishwasher comes with the
unique EasyInstall System that speeds the
installation and reduces problems. This
system has these components which are
approved by regulatory authorities (cUL):
Over 5' of Pex hose that replaces the
water-inlet copper tubing. It has a 3/8"-
compression fitting that mates with the
shut-off valve.
Over 6' of drainhose with an adaptable
drain connection. The high loop is built
into this hose on the back of the unit. If
this loop is removed to lengthen the
hose, another high-loop must be built
into the installation somewhere along
the line (typically where the hose passes
through the cabinet).
A 6' long electrical cord with standard,
3-pronged, 110V plug. This eliminates
the need to wire anything under the unit.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Attaching Top Fill Strip
1. If you are installing the dishwasher with either the top fill strip or side fill strips, you must
remove the insulation strips. These are the black sponge strips attached to the front edge of
the tank, from top to bottom. To remove them, simply grip the top or bottom edge and pull it
away from the tank, as illustrated in Figure 1.
2. If you are installing the top fill strip, you must remove the black rubber strip attached to the
flange of the tank. Simply grip one end of the rubber strip and pull it away from the flange,
as illustrated in Figure 2.
3. Remove the fill strip and two mounting screws from the package.
4. The top fill strip has a slot that runs from side to side. This slot faces the front of the
dishwasher. Set the fill strip on top of the dishwasher where you removed the insulation and
rubber strip.
5. Slide the strip forward, having the flange of the dishwasher and the top mounting brackets
slide through the slot on the front of the trim strip until the strip is flush with the dishwasher
tank, as illustrated in Figures 3 and 4. (If it does not pull forward far enough to be flush, it
will not secure to the dishwasher.)
6. Open the dishwasher door and insert the mounting screws as if you were going to mount
the dishwasher to the cabinet, as illustrated in Figure 5.

Attaching Side Fill Strips
1. If you are installing the dishwasher with the side fill strips, you must remove the
insulation strips. These are the black sponge strips attached to the front edge of the
tank, from top to bottom. To remove them, simply grip the top or bottom edge and pull
it away from the tank, as illustrated in Figure 6.
2. The trim strip has multiple mounting holes. Align the largest hole with the same size
hole on the side of the dishwasher, as illustrated in Figure 7. (This hole is used when
you anchor the dishwasher to the cabinet.)
3. Keeping the trim strip aligned with the holes, open the dishwasher door and secure it
to the dishwasher with the screws provided, as illustrated in Figure 8. (The screw head
should be inside the tank.)
4. When anchoring the dishwasher to the cabinet, height adjustments is essential to
properly align the panel with the cabinet facings.
NOTES:
Be sure to order a side fill strip for each side (left and right).
The unit will accept various sized panels. Refer to the dishwasher specifications before
building the panel so it will correctly align with the cabinet facings.
If a four-inch toe kick is used, the unit must be installed at its lowest height. (The
dishwasher is delivered at its lowest height.) On four-inch toe kick installations, the
one-piece door panel will extend past the top of the control panel approximately 1-3/4".
