GROUNDING
TO PREVENT
ELECTRIC SHOCK
AND DEATH FROM
INCORRECT GROUNDING
WIRE CONNECTION:
Check with a qualied
electrician if you are in doubt
as to whether the Outlet is
properly grounded. Do not
modify the Power Cord Plug
provided with the tool. Never
remove the grounding prong
from the Plug. Do not use the
tool if the Power Cord or Plug
is damaged. If damaged,
have it repaired by a service
facility before use. If the Plug
will not t the Outlet, have a
proper Outlet installed by a
qualied electrician.
SKU 66745 For technical questions, please call 1-800-444-3353. Page 9
Grounded Tools: Tools with Three
Prong Plugs
Tools marked with “Grounding Re-1.
quired” have a three wire cord and
three prong grounding plug. The
plug must be connected to a properly
grounded outlet. If the tool should
electrically malfunction or break
down, grounding provides a low
resistance path to carry electricity
away from the user, reducing the risk
of electric shock. (See 3-Prong Plug
and Outlet.)
The grounding prong in the plug is 2.
connected through the green wire in-
side the cord to the grounding system
in the tool. The green wire in the cord
must be the only wire connected to
the tool’s grounding system and must
never be attached to an electrically
“live” terminal. (See 3-Prong Plug
and Outlet.)
The tool must be plugged into an 3.
appropriate outlet, properly installed
and grounded in accordance with all
codes and ordinances. The plug and
outlet should look like those in the
preceding illustration. (See 3-Prong
Plug and Outlet.)
Double Insulated Tools: Tools
with Two Prong Plugs
Tools marked “Double Insulated” do 1.
not require grounding. They have
a special double insulation system

and complies with the applicable
standards of Underwriters Labora-
tories, Inc., the Canadian Standard
Association, and the National Electri-
cal Code. (See Outlets for 2-Prong
Plug.)
Double insulated tools may be used 2.
in either of the 120 volt outlets shown
in the preceding illustration. (See
Outlets for 2-Prong Plug.)
EXTENSION CORDS
Grounded tools require a three wire 1.
extension cord. Double Insulated
tools can use either a two or three
wire extension cord.
As the distance from the supply outlet 2.
increases, you must use a heavier
gauge extension cord. Using exten-
sion cords with inadequately sized
wire causes a serious drop in voltage,
resulting in loss of power and pos-
sible tool damage.
(See Table A.)
SKU 66745 For technical questions, please call 1-800-444-3353. Page 10
The smaller the gauge number of the 3.
wire, the greater the capacity of the
cord. For example, a 14 gauge cord
can carry a higher current than a 16
gauge cord. (See Table A.)
When using more than one exten-4.
sion cord to make up the total length,
make sure each cord contains at
least the minimum wire size required.
(See Table A.)
If you are using one extension cord 5.
for more than one tool, add the
nameplate amperes and use the sum
to determine the required minimum
cord size. (See Table A.)
If you are using an extension cord 6.
outdoors, make sure it is marked with


use.
Make sure the extension cord is prop-7.

General Operating Instructions
Prior to operating the Sprayer, know 1.
in advance how to release pressure
in the unit’s system:
Engage the Safety Lock (18B) on 
the Spray Gun.
Turn the Power Switch (33A) to its 
“OFF” position.

IMPORTANT:2. Do not run the Sprayer
dry for more than 30 seconds. Doing
so can damage the Pump Packing.
NOTE: 3. Before spraying the actual
workpiece, it is recommended to test
spray on scrap material.
Unlock the Trigger Safety Lock (18B) 4.
by pulling back on the tab of the Lock
and turning it to either side.
Face the Spray Tip toward the 5.
item to be painted. (See bottom photo
on page 12.)
Hold the Spray Gun about 14-16 6.
inches from and at a right angle to
the item.

Slowly increase Pump pressure until 8.
coverage is uniform.
To align the spray pattern, relieve 9.
pressure on the system. Loosen the
Guard (24B) on the Spray Gun. Align
the Guard horizontally to obtain a hori-
zontal spray pattern. Align the Guard
vertically to obtained a vertical spray
pattern.
Painting Tips
Successful spray painting is a skill 1.
which requires knowledge of your
equipment, familiarity with your paint
materials and experience.
Differences in paints, work materials 
and environmental conditions make
every painting task unique. For best
results, practice with your painting
mixture on scrap material before
beginning to paint your workpiece.

In most cases, it is best to move the 2.
paint spray from side to side, overlap-
ping the previous paint. To paint in
this way, the spray pattern should be
set to vertical.
It is important to prevent excess 
paint at the beginning and end of
each stroke. Holding the Spray
Gun away from the workpiece,
squeeze the Trigger to start the
spray. Then move the Spray Gun
in to within 14-16 inches of the
workpiece. Move the Spray Gun
smoothly across the workpiece,
keeping a consistent distance. At
the end of each stroke, pull the
Spray Gun away from the work-
piece as you release the Trigger.
As you work, observe the way the 
paint accumulates on the work
surface. It is more important to
maintain a good paint surface than
to form an opaque (thick) paint coat.
You can always apply a second coat
to get the coverage you want. If
the surface is ruined, however, you
will have to start over with surface
preparation.
If the surface does not smooth out 
in a few seconds after applying the
paint, your paint mixture is probably
too thick. Thin your paint slightly
and test on scrap material. If the
paint goes on very thin and threat-
ens to run, stop spraying immediate-
ly. Add more paint to your mixture
to thicken the paint. Test on scrap
material before resuming work.
MAINTENANCE AND
SERVICING
Procedures not specically
explained in this manual must
be performed only by a qualied
technician.
TO PREVENT
SERIOUS INJURY
FROM ACCIDENTAL
OPERATION: Prior to cleaning,
lock the Trigger. Turn the
Pressure Adjust Knob (69A) to
“OFF”. Then open the Prime/
Spray Knob (39A) to release
all pressure.
Prior to storing or performing
service and repairs, turn the Power
Switch (33A) of the Sprayer to its
“OFF” position, unplug the Sprayer
from its electrical outlet, and
relieve pressure from the system.
TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY
FROM TOOL FAILURE:
Do not use damaged equipment. If
abnormal noise or vibration occurs,
have the problem corrected before
further use.
BEFORE EACH USE1. , inspect the
general condition of the Airless Spray-
er. Check for loose screws, misalign-
ment or binding of moving parts,
cracked or broken parts, damaged
electrical wiring, damaged hoses, and
any other condition that may affect its
safe operation.

TO CLEAN THE SPRAY TIP: 2.
When Spray Tip clogs, rotate the
Spray Gun 180° to the “Clean” posi-
tion. Pull the Trigger (16B) and spray
to clear any blockage. Rotate the
Tip back to the “Spray” position and
continue spraying. If the clogging
continues, clean or replace the Spray
Gun Filter (10B). IMPORTANT: Do

clean the Tip, as damage to the Tip
may result.
TO CLEAN SPRAY GUN FILTER:3.
Unscrew the Spray Gun Handle (14B)
from the Gun Body to access the Fil-
ter (10B). Remove the Filter and use
brush (not included) to clean with wa-
ter (if used with water-based paint) or
solvent (if used with oil-based paint).
Inspect Filter for pinholes, clogging,
or other damage. Replace if neces-
sary. Reinstall the Filter. Then screw
the Spray Gun Handle back into the
Gun Body.
TO REPLACE THE SADDLE SEAL:4.
The Saddle Seal (22B) can become
worn after regular use, causing bub-

Saddle Seals are available from Har-
bor Freight Tools.
To replace Seal, remove the Spray 5.
Valve (23B) from the Guard (24B).
Unscrew the Guard from the head
of the Gun Body. Align Spray Valve
Plastic Grip with the slot at the tip of
the guard. Forcing the Grip in will
push out the Saddle (21B) and Sad-
dle Seal (22B).
Separate Saddle and Saddle Seal, 6.
discard the old Seal, and replace with
new Seal. Push new Seal back onto
Saddle until it snaps into place.
Reinsert the Saddle and Saddle Seal. 7.
IMPORTANT: The recessed face
of the Saddle MUST be in-line with
the Spray Valve prior to inserting the
Spray Valve. Do not force the Spray
Valve until the Saddle is fully inserted.

occur
NOTE: 8. When replacing the Saddle
and new Seal, ALWAYS keep the
Guard in inverted position (see Figure
C.) This will prevent the Saddle and
Seal from being forced out when the
Guard is not fully tightened.
Thread Guard back onto Gun Body. 9.
IMPORTANT: The Guard must be
threaded straight onto the Gun Body.
