2.1 Areas of Application
Theunitcolumnwithheaterelementisintendedtohousethe
M4000 or M2000 multiple light beam safety devices, subject to
thefollowingconditions:
Thephotoelectricsafetyswitchandtheheatermustbeperma

nently connected to the operating voltage.
Thesaltwaterresistancerelatestothesaltparticlesinthe
ambient air or in rain. Regular cleaning of salt residues is es-
sential.
Theheaterisspeciedfortemperaturesdownto–15°Cindry
airclimates.Attemperaturesbelow0°Caccompaniedbyrain
orsnow,thepossibilitycannotbeentirelyexcludedthattheef
-
fectivereexsurfaceofthePlexiglasscreenmayiceup.
Nowarrantycanbeprovidedfordamagecausedbyanimals
(birds, spiders, etc.).
Maximumsender/receiverrangeincolumn:56metres(with
M4000).

2.3 General Safety Advice
Safety advice
Theinstructionssetoutinthisdocumentmustbefollowedinorder
to ensure the correct use of the device column and the heater:
CompliancewiththeseOperatingInstructions.
Installation, electrical connections, commissioning, repairs and
maintenancemayonlybecarriedoutbyqualiedtechnicalper-
sonnelwhoarefamiliarwiththerelevantsafetyregulations.
Theheateroperatesat230VAC.Beforeremovingthepower
plugalwaysdisconnectthecolumnandtheoverallsystemfrom
thepower.Operatetheheatingviaa30mAFIcircuitbreaker.
Theoperatingandmaintenancepersonnelworkingonthe
photoelectricsafetyswitchinstalledinthedevicecolumnmust
beinstructedbyqualiedpersonnelpriortostartingwork.The
instruction is the responsibility of the machine operating com-
pany.
Before operating the multiple light beam safety device refer to
the relevant Operating Instructions.
Integrate the columns into the lightning protection system for
the overall plant.

3.1 SpecicationoftheDevice
Column with Heater
Theunitcolumnwithheaterelementisintendedtohousethe
M4000 or M2000 multiple light beam safety devices, outdoors.
The Sender and Receiver are secured to the slots of the column
bymeansofaswivelmountingbracket.Thesenderandreceiver
columns are installed opposite each other and aligned parallel.
TokeepthePlexiglasfrontscreenofthedevicecolumnmist-free
itisttedwithaheater,whichalsomaintainsthephotoelectric
safetyswitchatitsoperatingtemperature.Thecomponentshavea
limiteddegreeofresistancetocorrosioncausedbysaltwater.

Installation procedure (see Fig. 1):
Removethehousingcoverandwithdrawthefrontpanelwith
the heater.
Align the device columns for the sender and receiver parallel to
each other and secure them using either the three outer slots
or the mounting hole in the middle of the base plate.
If the mounting surface is uneven, align the device column verti-
cally using shims.
Warning
Alwayscutthepowerwhenmakingelectricalconnections.Do
notswitchontheoperatingvoltagefortheheateruntil you have
insertedtheplug.A30mAFIcircuitbreakerisrequired!
3. Threadthecablethroughttheholeinthebaseplate,wirethe
M4000 or M2000 and connecting plug for the heater element
(Fig. 3).
It is advisable to connect the contamination signalling output
(OWS) of the M4000.
4. Install lightning protection based on the relevant regulations,
using the M12 tapped holes in the base plate.
