The following safety precautions should always be followed when using
electrical appliances, especially when children are present in your household.
Please read these instructions carefully & keep for future reference.
Polythene bags over product or package may be dangerous. To avoid
danger of suocation, keep this wrapper away from babies & children. This
bag is not a toy.

• When this appliance is used in a bathroom, unplug it after use

• Never block the air openings of the appliance or place on a soft surface
such as a bed or couch where the air openings may be blocked - keep the
air openings free of lint & other debris.
• Do not cover this appliance with anything when it is switched on or hot.
• Always place the appliance on the heat-resistant mat whilst heating
up, periodically resting during styling & cooling down to protect work
surfaces.
• To avoid electric shock, do not drop or insert any object into an opening
in this appliance.
• This is a high heat appliance. Care must be taken to avoid the hot surfaces
of the appliance coming into direct contact with the skin, in particular
the eyes, ears, face & neck. THE CURL CHAMBER MAY BE HOT TO THE
TOUCH.
• Do not use extension cord with this appliance.
NOTE:
• When using the appliance for the first time, a little smoke may appear with
a distinct odour. This is common & will disappear by the next use.
• Each time you use the appliance, you may see some steam. Do not be
concerned, this could be because of evaporation of the natural oils of the
hair, residual hair products (leave-in hair products, etc.) or excess moisture
evaporating from your hair.
• A heat-protection spray can be used to provide optimal protection of
the hair.
• A subtle buzzing sound, similar to a crackle may be heard. This is the
characteristic noise of the ion generator. The ioniser within the device
releases ions creating the anti-static eect in which leaves your hair
shiny.

WARNING: Storage & Maintenance
Always unplug the appliance immediately after use & before cleaning or
maintenance.
• Do not leave the appliance unattended when plugged in or switched on.
• Always allow the appliance to cool down before storing away in a location
where children cannot reach it.
• Do not store or place this appliance in a location where it can fall or be
pulled into a bath or sink.
WARNING: Do not wrap the power cord tightly around the appliance when
storing. This causes undue strain on the power cord & protective guard. Over
time, this will damage the power cord resulting in unsafe condition to the
user.
• If the power cord is damaged it must be replaced by the manufacturer,
its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
• Never operate this appliance if it has been dropped or damaged, or if it is
not working correctly.
• If this appliance is serviced by an unqualified person this could result in
an extremely hazardous situation for the user. Contact Conair Customer
Service if you have any issues operating your appliance.

IONIC CONDITIONING
Many aspects of modern living, including air conditioning, contact
with man-made fibres & air pollution add to the build-up of static
electricity in your hair. Even simply brushing & towel-drying your
hair can increase these levels. This static charge causes the scales,
or cuticles of the hair, to push hair strands apart, resulting in a rough
hair surface. Consequently, your hair may have a dull appearance.
High levels of static charge cause your hair to become ‘flyaway’ &
dicult to style.
The advanced internal ionic generator conditions hair by
emitting negative ions to reduce static, leaving your hair silky
& shiny with reduced frizz.
It is quite normal to hear a subtle buzzing sound, similar to a crackle
as this is the characteristic noise of the ion generator.

HOW TO USE
THE CURL SECRET
The Curl Secret is a new type of styling tool & works dierently
to any other curling stylers you may have used in the past.
It is essential you read these instructions before use.
It is also recommended you view our “How To” video before styling
on our website at vssassoon.com.au or on YouTube under, Curl
Secret Optimum.
IMPORTANT:
Hair that has been heavily bleached or chemically treated should
only use the low heat setting on this product. Please consult your
hairdresser on using heated appliances if you have any concerns
about the condition of your hair.
BEFORE USING
• Remove all packaging & point of sale labels before use.
• Remove plastic cover from plug before use (used to protect it
from damage during transportation).

ANTI-TANGLE PROTECTION SYSTEM
The appliance is fitted with an anti-tangle protection system. If hair
becomes tangled, the appliance emits an audible signal, it blocks &
stops heating. If this occurs, release the handles, ensuring that the
appliance & section of hair are correctly positioned, then simply re-
close the handles to deactivate the security system & re-start the
appliance.
Hair could become tangled due to:
Possible Cause: The section of hair being inserted into the curl
chamber is too thick/big.
Solution: BEFORE USE - Section hair and comb through until its
completely tangle-free. Clip away each section not being styled
with sectioning clips. Ensure there are no stray hairs within each of
the sections.
Take a section of hair no wider than the opening of the chamber -
approx less than 3cm, depending on your hair length.
For longer hair, take smaller sections and start curling from the mid-
lengths to ends of the hair section.
ALWAYS ensure that you place the entire smooth section of hair
into the curl chamber.
ENSURE ALL OF THE HAIR SECTION SITS INSIDE THE OPENING
OF THE CURL CHAMBER - THERE SHOULD BE NO STRAY HAIRS.
Possible Cause: Hair was not combed through/is not free of knots.
Solution: Section hair and comb through before styling. Ensure that
all hair is brushed or combed through thoroughly first to ensure that
it is free of all knots and tangles.
Possible Cause: The handles were closed before the section of hair
was correctly and fully inserted into the curl chamber funnel.
Solution: Ensure that ENTIRE hair section is inserted into the curl
chamber funnel BEFORE the closing the handles.

MIX SETTING = ALTERNATE CURLS WARNING!
Possible Cause: Handles have been opened before all required
beeps. Hair has become tangled after re-closing the handles.
Solution: If you release the handles whilst hair is curling and then re-
close while your hair is still in the curler, the curler will start spinning
the other way because it now thinks it is creating a new curl...
this will create a tangle in your hair.
If you lose your grip on the handles accidentally during curling
remove the styler from hair immediately.
To correctly curl a hair section - close and continuously keep the
handles closed to draw the hair section into the curl chamber,
making sure 100% of the hair section enters the curl chamber at the
same time.
DO NOT release the handles until you hear the required succession
of slow beeps corresponding to the timer setting you’ve selected.

SLEEP MODE
If the appliance is not in use for more than 20 minutes, the
temperature will automatically reduce to around 150°C. If you wish
to continue using the appliance after this time, simply close then
release the handles & the appliance will return to the temperature
setting previously selected.
AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF
This appliance has an automatic shut o feature for added safety. If
the appliance is switched on for more than 60 minutes continuously,
it will automatically switch o. If you wish to continue using the
appliance after this time, simply press “ ” button again to turn the
power on.
HEAT MAT
The appliance comes with a heat mat for use during & after styling.
During use do not place the appliance on any heat sensitive surface,
even when using the heat mat provided. After use, switch o &
unplug the appliance. Immediately wrap the appliance in the heat
mat provided & allow to fully cool down. Continue to keep it out of
reach of children as it will remain hot for several minutes.

DETERMING THE CORRECT HAIR SECTION SIZE
The Curl Secret Optimum is a new type of styling tool & works
dierently to any other curling stylers you may have used in the past.
So before you start using it, familiarize yourself with the right size hair
section depending on your length.
IMPORTANT: Do not start the curl any closer than 4cm from the
scalp.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Ensure your hair is clean, completely dry & free from hairspray.
Hairspray may cause the hair to heat up to astronomical
temperatures & stick like glue, in-turn creating diculty to
remove hair from the styler.
1. IMPORTANT - You must section your hair and comb through
until its completely tangle-free before use.
The secret to nailing your look is to create 3 sections.
This will ensure your style always looks consistent.
a) Use a comb or fingers and create the top section, from temple
to temple and clip away on top of the head with a sectioning
clip.
b) Create the middle section from ear to ear and clip away with a
sectioning clip.
c) The hair left down is your bottom section.
d) Always start with the bottom section first and once
completely styled as desired, unclip the middle section, style
and then unclip the top section. When using the Curl Secret
Optimum you will need to divide the hair into smaller sections.

more detail.

2. Plug the styler into a 240V power outlet.
3. Switch on the styler by pressing (1). The LCD screen will
illuminate showing the manual mode.
4. - In manual mode you can select your required temperature
setting by pressing (2). See Temperature/Manual Mode Guide
below for reference to hair type.
- For Intuitive auto curl control mode press (1) again which

switches to the 3 auto curl settings (1 press, for tight curls, 2
presses, for medium curls, 3 presses, for loose curls).

NB: The indicator light of the selected setting (+ temperature) blinks
on the LCD screen & stops blinking when the styler is ready for
use.
5. Select the adjustment of the direction of the curl by pressing
(3), according to the desired result.
6. Starting with the bottom section, at the nape of the neck, work
towards the front of your head taking further small individual
sections no wider than 3cms. Refer to DETERMING THE
CORRECT HAIR SECTION SIZE for more detail.
7. Position the styler where you want the curl to start - for longer
hair, take smaller sections and start curling from the mid-lengths
to ends of the hair section. Refer to DETERMING THE CORRECT
HAIR SECTION SIZE for more detail (Fig.1 & 2). Always ensure
that the front of the styler is facing the head (Fig. 3 & 4). Always
ensure that the hair section is combed through, completely
tangle-free hair and that there are NO stray hairs within the
section.
ALWAYS ensure that you place the entire smooth section of
hair into the curl chamber.

OPENING OF THE CURL CHAMBER - THERE SHOULD BE NO

8. With your free hand take hold of the tip of the section ensuring
it is STRAIGHT, with NO STRAY HAIRS & place ALL OF THE
SECTIONED HAIR, NEATLY in the funnel situated between the
two handles (Fig. 5) ensuring you are not pulling your hair before
activating the handles (Fig. 6 & 7). Make sure 100% of the hair
section enters the barrel at the same time.
IMPORTANT - Your hair may become tangled if these instructions
are not followed or if any hair is held loosely and falls away without
100% of it entering the curl chamber at the same time.

9. Once the section of hair is in place, close the handles to allow the
hair to automatically enter into the styler.
IMPORTANT - Your hair may become tangled if these instructions
are not followed or if any hair is held loosely and falls away without
100% of it entering the barrel at the same time.
10. Keep the handles closed until the beeping stops (Fig.8) (after 3,
4 or 5 beeps depending on the selected time setting), refer to
Intuitive Auto Curl. Ensure your grip does not loosen, as this will
cause the styler to spin the other way & create a tangle.

IMPORTANT - Should your grip loosen & the styler opens slightly,
DO NOT RECLOSE the styler, for it will start spinning the other
way as it thinks it should be creating a new curl & a tangle will
form.

11. Gently release the hair from the styler by opening the handles
(Fig.9). Do not pull on the styler to free the hair. If you do this you
will ruin the curl eect.

12. Allow your hair to cool before handling or combing.
13. Repeat all desired sections until you have the number of curls
you would like.
14. After use, turn the styler o by pressing & holding (1) for 1 - 2
seconds & unplug the styler. Allow to cool on heat-resistant mat
before storing away.

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE
In order to prevent build-up of residue from hair products which
would prevent the styler from working properly, it is important to
use the cleaning tool provided to regularly clean the styler.
• Ensure the styler is switched o, unplugged & cooled down.
• Lightly dampen the cleaning tool with warm water & mild soap.
• Insert the tool fully into the cavity formed by the styler & the
cylinder (Fig. 10).
• Rotate the tool several times around the cylinder to remove any
buildup of hair products (Fig. 11).

• Remove the cleaning tool from the cavity.
• Ensure the styler is completely dry before reusing.
• The cleaning tool can be reused many times. Simply remove the
felt pad, rinse it in warm soapy water & leave to dry before reusing.
• Once unplugged and cooled, the styler housing may be wiped with
a damp cloth.
Ensure the styler is completely dry before plugging it in again.

You must present it to obtain replacement or service under the warranty.
The warranty may only be claimed where proof of original purchase is
presented, i.e. original purchase receipt or invoice.
