and1/4"nylocknuts(K).Do no tighten completely.

• Insertthebushing(V)intothecrossbrace(4).
• Attachthecrossbracetothehoppersupporttubes
usingtwo1/4"x2-1/2"hexbolts(B)and1/4"nylock
nuts (K). Do not tighten completely.
STEP 3: (SEE FIGURE 3)
IMPORTANT:Besurethegearboxisturnedsothatthe
holeintheaxleislocatedonthesideshown.
• Installthegearboxassemblybyinsertingtheendof
theverticalspreadershaftintothecrossbracebushing
andinsertingtheaxleintotheendsofthehopper
supporttubes.
STEP 4: (SEE FIGURE 4)
• Slidetheatsidedbearings(T)ontotheaxleand
insertthemintotheendsofthehoppersupporttubes.
• Slidethespreaderimpeller(3)ontotheverticalshaft
andsecureitwitha1/8"x1-1/2"cotterpin(H).

theholeintheowplateonthebottomofthehopper.
Locktherodintheowplatebyrotatingtherod.

• Installthedrivelinkbracket(Z)ontotheotherend
ofthedrivelinkrod(AA).Attachthemiddleholein
thedrivelinkbrackettothemountingbracketonthe
bottomofthehopperusingthe1/4"x3/4"hexbolt(E)
anda1/4"nylocknut(K).Tighten and then loosen
thenutjustenoughforthedrivelinkbrackettopivot.
STEP 7: (SEE FIGURE 7)
• Placethehopperontothehoppersupporttubes,
insertingtheverticalspreadershaftupthroughthe
squareholeinthebottomofthehopper.
• Slidethehopperbushing(U)ontothespreadershaft
andinsertitintothebottomofthehopper.
• Slidethespacer(O)ontothespreadershaft.
• Installtheagitatorhairpin(J)inthespreadershaft.
STEP 8: (SEE FIGURE 8)
• Attachthehoppertothehoppersupporttubesusing
four1/4"x1-3/4"hexbolts(C),1/4"washers(N),
nylonwashers(L)and1/4"nylocknuts(K).Tighten
the four bolts.

USING YOUR SPREADER

broadcastpattern.
1. Determineapproximatesquarefootageofareatobe
covered and estimate amount of material required.
2. Makesuretheowplateisclosed.
3. Fillthehopper,breakingupanylumpyfertilizer.
4. Settheowcontroldialwiththeowplateclosed.
Refertotheinstructionsonthefertilizerbagandto
theapplicationchartonthispagetoselecttheproper
owratesetting.Theapplicationchartiscalculated
forlighttoheavyapplicationataspeedof3mph,or
100 ft. in 23 seconds. A variation in speed will require
anadjustmentoftheowratetomaintainthesame
coverage.Thefasteryouwalk,thewiderthebroadcast
width.
5. Alwaysstartthespreaderinmotionbeforepullingback
thebailtoopentheowplate.
6. Alwaysreleasethebailtoclosetheowplatebefore
turningaroundorstoppingthespreader.
7. Iffertilizerisaccidentallydepositedtooheavilyina
smallarea,soaktheareathoroughlywithagarden
hoseorsprinklertopreventburningofthelawn.
8. Toinsureuniformcoverage,makeeachpasssothat
thebroadcastpatternslightlyoverlapsthepattern
fromthepreviouspassasshowningure17.The
approximatebroadcastwidthsfordifferentmaterials
areshownintheapplicationchartonthispage.
9. Whenbroadcastingweedcontrolfertilizers,make
surethebroadcastpatterndoesnothitevergreen
trees,owersorshrubs.Ifyourspreaderisequipped
withasidedeector,lowerittobroadcasttoonlyone
side of spreader.
10. Heavymoistureconditionsmayrequireuseofavinyl
hoppercovertokeepcontentsdry.Thecoveractsasa
windandmoistureshield,butshouldnotbeusedasa
raincover.The#41316covercanbeorderedasan
option. See pages 18 and 19.
HOW TO USE YOUR SPREADER
SETTING THE FLOW CONTROL
(Refertogure16onpage7.)
1. Loosenthewingnut,settheadjustablestoptothe
desiredowratesettingandretightenthewingnut.
Thehigherthesettingnumber,thewidertheopening
inthebottomofthehopper.
2. Refertotheapplicationchartonthispageandtothe
instructionsonthefertilizerbagtoselecttheproper
owratesetting.
3. Pulltheowcontrolarmagainsttheadjustablestop
fortheonposition.Pushtheowcontrolarmtoward
thehopperandthenoverintothelockingnotchfor
theoffposition.

MAINTENANCE
CHECK FOR LOOSE FASTENERS
1. Beforeeachuse,makeathoroughvisualcheckofthe
spreaderforanyboltsandnutswhichmayhave
loosened.Retightenanylooseboltsandnuts.
CHECK FOR WORN OR DAMAGED PARTS
2. Checkforwornordamagedpartsbeforeeachuse.
Repair or replace parts if necessary.
CHECK TIRE INFLATION
3. Checkiftiresareadequatelyinatedbeforeeachuse.
Donotinatetiresbeyondmaximumrecommended
pressure on tire.
CLEANING
4. Rinseinsideofhopperandexteriorofspreaderand
allowtodrybeforestoring.
LUBRICATE(Seegure18)
5. Removethethreeclipsfromthegearbox.Separate
thegearboxhousings.
6. Wipeanydirtorgrimefromthegears.
7. Lightlyapplyautomotivegreaseasneededtogears.
8. Lightlyoilthetopofthegearboxandthevertical
spreadershaft.
9. Re-assemblethegearboxhousingsandsecurethem
withtheclips
10. Oilthe(idler)wheelandtheaxlebushingsatleast
once a year or more often as needed.
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS
1. Iftheaxleandgearassemblyisdisassembled,mark
downthepositionsofthepartsastheyareremoved.
Thedrivewheelandlargegearpositions,inrelation
tothesmallgear,determinewhichdirectionthe
impellerwillspin.Besuretoreassemblethemintheir
originalpositions.(Refertotheexplodedpartsview
onpage18).Makesurethewashers(items15and
30onpage18and19)areinplacewhenassembling
theaxlecomponents.Addgreasetogears.
