bottomnotchon therightfender,
3, Removethebeltfromaroundthetractor'sengine
pulleyandidlerpulley(s),RefertoChanging the
DeckBelton page22fordetailedinstructions,
4, Lookingatthecuttingdeckfromthe leftsideof the
tractor,locatethehairpindip thatsecuresthedeck
supportrodon therearleftsideof thedeck,See
Figure16,
5, Removethe hairpinclipthatsecuresthedeck
supportrod,andcarefullyremovethedecksupport
fromthedeck liftarm,
6, Repeattheabovestepsonthetractor'srightside,
7, Movethedecklift leverintothetopnotchonthe right
fendertoraisethedeck liftarmsupandoutofthe
way,
8, CarefullyremovethePTOcane fromtherearof
thecuttingdeckby removingthehair pinclipwhich
securesit, Removethespringfromthedeckidler

9, Gentlyslidethecuttingdecktowardthefrontofthe
tractorallowingthehooksonthedecktorelease
themselvesfromthedeckstabilizerrod,

coatofpetroleumicily or greasetobothterminals,
Alwayskeeptherubberbootpositionedoverthe
positiveterminaltopreventshorting,
IMPORTANT:if removingthebatteryforanyreason,
disconnecttheNEGATIVE(Black)wirefromit'sterminal
first,followedbythePOSITIVE(Red)wire,When
reqnstallingthebattery,alwaysconnectthePOSiTiVE
(Red)wireitsterminalfirst,fo[bwedbytheNEGATIVE
(Black)wire,Becertainthat thewiresareconnectedto
thecorrectterminals;reversingthemcouldchangethe
polarityandresultindamagetoyourengine'salternat-
ingsystem,
Charging
If thetractorhasnotbeenputintouseforanextended
periodoftime,chargethebatterywith anautomotive-
type 12-voltchargerfora minimumofone hour atsix
amps.
WARNING: Batteries give off an
explosive gas while charging.
Charge battery in a we[t venti-
lated area and keep away from
an open flame or pilot light as
on a water heater, space heater,
furnace, clothes dryer or other
gas appliances.
WARNING: When removing or
installingthe battery, follow
these instructions to prevent the
screwdriver from shorting against
the frame.
IMPORTANT:Neveriumpyourtractor'sdeadbatterywith
thebatteryofa runningvehicle,
1, Connectendofoneiumpercane tothepositive
terminalofthegoodbattery,thentheotherendtothe
positiveterminalofthedeadbattery,
2, Connecttheotheriumpercane tothenegative
terminalofthegoodbattery,thentotheframe of the
unit with the dead battery.
WARNING: Failure to use this
procedure could cause sparking,
and the gas in either battery could
explode.
Cleaning

washingwitha bakingsodaandwatersolution,if neces-
saD',scrapethebatteryterminalswitha wirebrushto
removedeposits,Coatterminalsandexposedwiringwith
greaseor petroleumicily topreventcorrosion,
Battery Failures
Somecommoncausesforbatteryfailureare:
incorrectinitialactivation undercharging
overcharging _corrodedconnections
freezing
Thesefailures are NOTcovered byyour tractor's
warranty.
Fuse
One20AMPfuseis instalbdin yourtractor'swiringhap
hesstoprotectthetractor'selectricalsystemfromdamage
causedbyexcessiveamperage,
if theebctricalsystemdoesnotfunction,oryourtractor's
enginewillnotcrank,firstchecktobecertainthatthefuse
hasnotblown,It canbefoundunderthe hoodmounted
behindthedashpanelon therightside,
WARNING: Always use a fuse with
