SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
For Household Use Only
46. Battery leakage may occur under
extreme usage or temperature
conditions. Do NOT open or mutilate
battery. Avoid contact with skin
and eyes. The battery liquid is caustic
and could cause chemical burns to
skin. If liquid comes in contact with
skin, wash immediately with soap and
water, then with lemon juice or
vinegar. If the liquid contact your eyes,
flush with water for a minimum of 10
minutes and seek medical attention.
47. When using the charger, place the
charger on a flat non-flammable
surface away from flammable
materials. The charger and battery
pack heat during charging. Carpeting
and other heat insulating surfaces
block proper air circulation which may
cause overheating of the charger and
battery pack. If smoke or melting of
the case is observed, unplug charger
immediately and do not use the
battery pack or the charger.
48. Do NOT put batteries into fire or
expose to high heat. They may
explode.
49. Do NOT attempt to disassemble the
battery pack or the charger. There are
no serviceable parts inside.
50. "Ni-Cd" battery must be recycled or
disposed of in an environmentally
sound manner. Call your nearest
recycling center for information on
the recycling and disposal of Ni-Cd
batteries
MAINTENANCE
Battery Pack Removal and
Disposal
A battery pack that is stored for six (6)
months without being used will discharge
itself. Batteries discharge at a rate of
about 1% per day. Charge the battery
every six months even if it is unused to
maximize battery life. Do not tape the
trigger in the “ON” position and leave the
tool unattended as this may discharge the
battery to a point where it will no longer be
able to recharge.
Store your battery pack in a cool, dry
place. Do not store it in a place where the
temperature will exceed 120°F (50°C)
such as a vehicle or metal building during
the summer. High temperatures will
overheat the battery pack, reducing
battery life. If it is stored for several
months, the battery pack will gradually
lose its charge. One (1) to three (3) cycles
of charging and discharging through
normal use will restore the capacity of the
battery pack. During the life of the battery
pack the operating time between charges
becomes shorter. If the operating time
becomes extremely short after a proper
charge, the usable life of the battery has
been reached and it should be replaced.
Cleaning
• After each use, remove the battery
pack and any build up of grass or
debris from the blade area.
• Remove and clean the protective
guard cover as described on page 5.
• Clean dust and debris from the charger
and the hand held trimmer. Keep unit
handles clean, dry and free of oil or
grease. Use only a dry lint free cloth to
clean the unit, battery pack and charger
since certain cleaning agents and
solvents are harmful to plastics and
other insulated parts. Some of these
include gasoline, turpentine, lacquer
thinner, paint thinner, chlorinated
cleaning solvents, ammonia and
household detergents containing
ammonia.
• Never use flammable or combustible
solvents around unit. Never immerse
hand held trimmer, battery pack or
charger in water or any other liquid.
NOTE: DO NOT CLEAN UNIT UNDER
RUNNING WATER. ALWAYS USE A
DRY CLOTH.
This product contains nickel-cadmium
battery. Must be disposed of properly.
Local, state, or federal laws may prohibit
disposal of Nickel-Cadmium batteries in
ordinary trash. Please consult your
Yellow Pages or local recycling
center for more information.

Do not attempt to disassemble
the battery pack or remove any
of its components. Also, never
touch both terminals with metal
objects and/or body parts, as
short circuit can result. Failure
to comply with these warnings
could result in fire and/or
serious injury.
To reduce the risk of explosion,
NEVER
burn a battery pack
even if it is damaged, dead or
completely discharged.
37. Use only those accessories and
attachments that have been found to
be acceptable for use with the
product. The use of any other
accessory or attachment may
increase risk of injury.
BATTERY/CHARGER
38. Make sure that you use the correct
battery pack when recharging your
hand held trimmer.
Do NOT charge appliance in rain, or
in wet locations.
39. Make sure that the battery pack
surface is clean and dry before
inserting the battery back into the
hand held trimmer.
40. After recharging the battery pack,
unplug the charger from the
electrical outlet and remove the
battery pack from the charger.
41. Always disconnect battery pack
from unit before making any
adjustments, changing blades or
storing the tool. Such preventive
measures reduce the risk of starting
the tool accidentally.
42. When battery pack is not in use in
the trimmer, do not allow the battery
contacts to touch and type of metal
objects such as paper clips, coins,
keys, nails, screws, rings and
bracelets, etc. that can make a
connection from one terminal to
another. Shorting the battery
terminals together may cause
sparks, burns or a fire.
43. After recharging the battery pack,
unplug the charger from the
electrical outlet and remove the
battery pack from the charger.
44. Charge battery pack in temperatures
above 40°F (50°C) and below
122°F (50°C). Allow battery pack to
return to room temperature before
attempting to recharge. This is
important to prevent serious damage
to the battery cells.
45. Store the hand held trimmer and the
battery pack in locations where the
temperatures do not go below 40°F
(4°C) and above 122°F (50°C).
52. Use only the following type battery
XBAT194.
