About these instructions
The operation described here mainly refers to the use of the remote control handset (R/C).
Buttons with same or similar marking at the main unit have the same function like those of
the R/C.
If the message “NOT ALLOWED AT THE MOMENT” or “NOT ALLOWED BY DISC” occurs on
the screen during operation, that function requested is not supported by the media type
inserted.
Many disc formats are supported
MPEG4 R
DivX R
DVD R
SVCD R
VCD R
CD R
MP3 R
WMA R
Photo CD R
These DivX versions are supported:
DivX 3.11, 4.02, 5.02, 5.03, and 5.05.
Important note
Ø
Usually the unit plays CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 discs as well as “burned” DVDs. But
due to the variety of blank disc types, recording computers, operating systems
and burning software we cannot guarantee that every “burned disc” is playable.
The unit does not play DVD-ROM, CD-ROM etc. And there is no way to play back
discs in SECAM colour system, just PAL and NTSC will be supported.
Ø
The types of functions and operations that can be used for a particular disc vary
depending on the features of that disc. In some cases, these functions and operations
may differ from the descriptions given in this Operations Manual. In this event, follow the
instructions given on the screen. This Operations Manual only covers basic disc
operations. Therefore you should also read the information enclosed to the Disc.

Information about the regional coding
This DVD/CD player is designed and manufactured to respond to the region
management information that is recorded on a DVD disc. If the region number
described on the DVD disc does not correspond to the Region number of this
DVD/CD player, this DVD/CD player cannot play this disc. The region number
for this DVD player is “2”.
Please note for a better understanding of this manual that the program of a DVD may be
divided into several “titles” (e.g. main movie, bonus material, interviews etc.). Each of
these titles can be divided into “chapters”. The program of audio CD’s is divided into
“tracks”.
About the WMA format
WMA is the abbreviation of Windows Media Audio and refers to an audio compression
technology developed by Microsoft Corporation. WMA data can be encoded by using
Windows Media Player version 8 or Windows Media Player for Windows XP. Files are
recognized by their file extension “.wma” or “.WMA”. “Windows Media”, and “Windows” are
trademarks, or registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or
other countries.
This model plays discs with MP3/WMA files with a sampling rate of 32 kbps ~ 384 kbps.
WMA files encoded with DRM (Digital Rights Management) copy protection will not play.
When naming MP3 and WMA files, add corresponding file name extension (.mp3 or .wma).
Files are played according to the file extension. To prevent noise and malfunctions, do not
use these extensions for other kinds of files.
Folder and track names (excluding the file extension) are displayed and played in
alphabetical order.
About the MPEG4 and DivX format
MPEG is the abbreviation of the Moving Picture Experts Group which belongs to the family of
ISO/IEC standards (International Organization for Standardization and International
Electrotechnical Commission). MPEG-4 is a compression technology for Interactive
Multimedia System. DivX is a brand-name video codec (compression-decompression)
technology codec based on the MPEG-4 standard that compresses video to small enough
sizes that it can be easily sent over the Internet, but retains a high degree of video quality.
DivX is the trade mark of the video codecs, that's based on th MPEG-4 standard.
This player is compatible with DivX versions 3.11, 4.02, 5.02, 5.03, and 5.05.
Note:
There are many non-standardised DVD/MPEG-4/DivX/MP3/WMA/CD-recording procedures
and copy protection procedures now in use, and many different kinds of DVD±R, DVD±RW,
CD-R and CD-RW blank disks. Therefore in some cases read errors or read delays may be
encountered. This is not a defect of the device!

Preparation for turning on
Place of erection
Ø
For setting up the unit please choose a location with sufficient air circulation around. That
prevents overheating. Don’t expose the unit to direct sunlight or other heat sources.
Ø
The product must be positioned horizontally only. Don’t put any heavy objects on its
housing.
Ø
To protect the laser unit avoid dusty surroundings. If necessary, please use a cleansing
disc carefully following its operating instructions.
Condensing humidity
The handling of the discs
Ø In order to keep the disc clean please never touch its shiny surface.
Ø
Never put any sticker or adhesive label on the disc.
Imbalance would occur and cause malfunction.
Ø
Don’t expose discs to direct sunlight or other heat sources.
Ø
Please store the discs only in their sleeves.
Cleaning of the disc
To clean a disc use a soft cloth without any cleaning agent, liquid or solvent.
Only wipe from the centre hole towards the outer edge, never in circular
movement.
7
Before using the remote control
1. Please open the battery compartment.
2. Insert two batteries (1,5 V, size AAA). Please
make sure the polarity matches the marks inside
the compartment. Otherwise the r/c will not
work and may be damaged. Replace the cover.
3. Please point the r/c towards the main unit when
operating its buttons.
The r/c works properly in a distance below 6m
and in an angle of up to 60° of the front of the
unit. No obstacles may stand in the way between
r/c and infrared sensor.
Ø
Should the r/c start to work unreliably replace
both batteries. We recommend using alkaline
batteries.
Ø
Batteries should not be disposed by
ordinary refuse disposal. Please lead empty
batteries towards appropriate collecting
points. Never throw batteries into fire.
Ø
If you won’t use the r/c for some time, please
remove the batteries from the compartment, to
prevent damage by leakage.

Establish connections
Important Notes: - All cables shown or mentioned here are not supplied with
your DVD player. You’ll find them at your local TV shop.
- Please switch off all equipment involved before making
any connections. This will protect your speakers from
possible damage.
The video connection
This diagram shows you the possible audio and video connections offered by your DVD
player. It is, of course, sufficient to establish only one of the displayed video connections.
Your choice would depend on the connections available on your TV and the existing audio
devices.
The video and S-video connections transmit only the picture information and hence, the
additional sound connection to the TV is essential. This is not the case with the SCART
connection as this transmits both picture and sound together via one cable.
If you wish to connect the DVD player to a TV which has a video colour component input, we
recommend using the Y, Pb/Cb and Pr/Cr jacks. If the TV offers the display option of the
color component input in the progressive scan function, activate this option in the DVD
player setup (more details later).
12
The audio connection
This diagram shows you the different audio connections that are possible. Here also it is
sufficient to establish only one of the connections. Your choice would depend on the
connections available on the existing audio devices.
Caution!
Never connect the coaxial output of the DVD player to the coaxial input of a device
which does not have a DOLBY DIGITAL AC 3 or a DTS decoder otherwise this could
damage your speakers.

Language Setup
OSD language
Select the language for the menu screen here. The
available languages are English, German, Italian
and Polish.
Subtitle
Here you can set the language in which you want
the subtitles of the DVDs to be displayed in general. This, of course, depends on the
languages of the subtitles that are actually available on the DVD. You can also change the
language of the subtitles whilst playing the DVD by pressing the SUBTITLE button on your
remote control.
DivX Subtitle
Here you can choose between DivX subtitle displays for Western Europe and central Europe.
This is important so that the device can use the right font in order to correctly display the all
letters.
Audio
Here you can select the language in which you wish the sound of the DVD to be played in
general. This of course depends on the languages available on the DVD for sound playback.
You can also change the language of the sound whilst playing by pressing the LANGUAGE
button.
DVD Menu
Here you can specify the language in which you wish the DVD menu to be displayed. These
languages are stored on the disc. Of course, this depends on the material available on the
DVD.
Video Setup
Aspect ratio
Here you can select the picture format of the TV that
is connected; 4:3 stands for the normal TV picture
and 16:9 is for a wide screen format.
18
View mode
The picture format (e.g. 4:3 normal TV, 16:9 wide screen TV) is specified by the DVD.
Please note that the picture format may not necessarily match your TV screen format.
The following settings could assist you in this case:
Fill screen: This displays a wide screen picture in a 4:3 screen. Here, the image is display
-
ed horizontally compressed.
Try the settings Original”or“Auto. Match” to get to the best possible display.
Pan Scan: Select this operation mode if you are connected to a normal format TV. The
picture is displayed in its complete width but you will see black bars at the top and bottom
of the screen.
TV System
Here you can select the color system of the connected TV. NTSC stands for the American TV
standard but in Germany, PAL must normally be selected. If you are using a TV with a multi
standard system, select “AUTO”.
Video Out
This device has multiple video outputs. Not all of them are simultaneously active. Select the
desired video output: COMPONENT (for color components output in normal line mode), RGB
(for SCART), P-SCAN (for color component output in the progressive scan mode) or
S-VIDEO for streaming video output.
Tip:
This setting is not relevant for operating in the video output mode (composite).
Select the progressive scan mode only if your TV can process these signals or it could lead
to image disturbances.
Audio Setup
Bass Management
Here you can select whether you wish to switch on
or switch off this function.
Front / Centre / Surr. Speakers
Please specify here whether your speakers are large
or small. If you set it to “Large”, the low and high
capacity frequency signals below 200 Hz are also
sent to these speakers, provided Bass Management
has been switched on. If your speakers cannot handle lower frequencies of that type, or you
are not sure, please select “Small”. If you have not connected centre or surround speakers,
please select “None”. Accordingly select Subwoofer => “Present” or “None”.
If the subwoofer is connected (“present”), and you have set the centre as “small” or “not
present”, the lower frequencies of the central channel are transmitted together with the
subwoofer signals to the subwoofer. When the subwoofer is switched off (“none”), and
you have selected the centre as “small” or “not present”, the lower frequencies of the centre
channel are transmitted along with the front signals to the front speakers. The subwoofer
signal is not considered.
Test Tones
Here you can select the individual speakers which play the test sounds. Through this, you
can check whether there are any cabling mistakes and each speaker actually receives the
19
signal defined for it. For an impressive acoustic experience, this is the first prerequisite!
Besides, using this function on your 5.1 channel amplifier, you can individually set the
speaker for each channel.
Tip: Speakers that were set to “not present” in the audio set up initially cannot be selected
here.
Centre / Surr Delay
Using this menu option, you can carry out the delay settings for the signals of the centre and
rear speakers according to the specified distance. This simulates a larger distance between
the speakers and the audience and gives the acoustic effect of a larger room. This can make
the sound effect more efficient.
Digital Output
Using this menu option you can set the digital audio signals of the S/PDIF output (coaxial)
according to your audio system.
Off: The coaxial output is deactivated.
PCM: Select this setting if you want to access the stereo signals in the coaxial output.
All: When you select this setting, the coaxial output is set to the original sound effect of
the DVD with the Dolby Digital AC3 information.
Night Mode
When you scroll down the column on the right with the 6 button, you can access other
buttons.
Here you can set the sound dynamics. “Dynamics” means the speaker output difference
between maximum and minimum sound, i.e. the difference between explosions and
whispering. If you have sensitive neighbours or like to watch action films in the night, set
this function to “OFF” to compress the dynamics.
Down Sampling
Normally, the sampling rate of the digital output signal is about 96 kHz (= Off). If your A/V
amplifier cannot process such high levels, activate the Down sampling (= On) function to
decrease the sampling rate to 44.1 kHz.
Rating Setup
Using these functions, you can prevent those DVDs
from being played which are not suitable for
children. However, a requirement is that the DVD is
encoded correct.
At first, go to the right column using the 4 button
and go to the top most entry and press ENTER. Now
enter a password to authorize the child protection.
The default factory setting of this password is
“8888". Enter a number and press ENTER. Now you
can recall the classification with the ENTER button.
8 classifications are available:
1. Kid safe: Childproof
2. G: For all age groups
3. PG: Parental guidance
