6. Care and Maintenance
Note
Use only a soft, antistatic cloth to clean the housing. Polishes
and cleaning agents could damage the surface of the hou-
sing.
Handling Cassettes
Never place cassettes on radiators or near heat sources as
this could warp the cassette and render it unusable.
Cassettes should always be returned to their cases after use.
This protects them from dust and prevents them from for-
ming loops.
To ensure a constantly high quality of recording and play-
back, the elements which come into contact with the tape,
such as the lay-on roller, capstand, sound heads and erasing
head, must be kept free of the tape drive. These elements
should be cleaned regularly.
Procedure:
Open the cassette compartment by pressing the STOP/
EJECT ■əbutton. If there is a cassette in the compartment,
remove it.
Press the PLAY ıbutton.
Wet a cotton swab (1) with cleaning alcohol and use it to
clean the elements that come into contact with the tape, such
as the heads, capstands and the lay-on rollers.
Never use hard objects!
After cleaning press the STOP/EJECT ■əbutton.
Handling Compact Discs
Although the tracks on the surface of the CD are protected by
a special coating, CDs should always be handled with care. If
you only touch the edge of your CDs and always return them
to their covers after use, there is normally no need to clean
them.
However, if there are fingerprints or other dirt on your CDs,
these should be removed by wiping with a soft, smooth cloth.
Always wipe from the centre outwards.
Before wiping CDs, you can breath on them. Fat solvent or
scouring agents should never be used, nor should you use
cleaning agents designed for ordinary vinyl records.
Formation of Condensation
If the unit is taken from a warm room into a cold room, con-
densation can form in the inside (“sweating”). If condensati-
on forms on the CD player's laser scanner, this can lead to
malfunctions or adversely affect the sound quality. In such
cases, wait half an hour to an hour before using the unit, so
thatit can adjust to the ambient temperature.
Never try to wipe droplets of water from the laser scanner's
lens or touch the scanner.
This label is attatched to the back of your
unit.
