• The operation of any power tool can result in foreign objects being thrown into your eyes,

which can result in severe eye damage. Before beginning power-tool operation, always wear

safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields and a full-face shield, when needed. We

recommend using a wide vision safety mask over eyeglasses or standard safety glasses

with shields. Always use eye protection marked to comply with ANSI Z87.1.

• Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and other construction

activities contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects,

or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these chemicals are:

– Crystalline silica from bricks, cement, and other masonry products

• Your risk from these exposures varies, depending upon how often you do this type of work.

– Work with approved safety equipment, such as dust masks that are specially designed to

lter out microscopic particles.

– Avoid prolonged contact with dust from power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and

other construction activities. Wear protective clothing and wash exposed areas with soap

and water. Allowing dust to get into your mouth or eyes or to lie on the skin may promote

absorption of harmful chemicals.

General Power Tool Safety Warnings

WARNING

• Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specications provided with

this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric

shock, re and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference

The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or

battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Work Area Safety

• Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.

• Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of

ammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks, which may ignite the dust or

fumes.

• Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can

cause you to lose control.

Electrical Safety

• Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use

any adaptor plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodied plugs and matching

outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.

• Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators,

ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is

earthed or grounded.

• Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will

increase the risk of electric shock.

• Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the

power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or

entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.

• When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor

use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

• If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current

device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal Safety

• Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power

tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the inuence of drugs,

alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in

serious personal injury.

• Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment

such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for

appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries

• Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off position before

connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool.

Carrying power tools with your nger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the

switch on invites accidents.

SAFETY INFORMATION

• Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a

key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.

• Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better

control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

• Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair and clothing

away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving

parts.

• If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities,

ensure that these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce

dust-related hazards

• Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become

complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury

within a faction of a second.

Power tool use and care

• Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The

correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

• Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that

cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

• Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack,

if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing

accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of

starting the power tool accidentally.

• Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons

unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power

tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

• Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving

parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s

operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are

caused by poorly maintained power tools.

• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting

edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

• Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these

instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be

performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in

a hazardous situation.

• Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery

handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in

unexpected situations.

Battery Tool Use and Care

• Recharge only with the charger specied by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable

for one type of battery pack may create a risk of re when used with another battery pack.

• Use power tools only with specically designated battery packs. Use of any other

battery packs may create a risk of injury and re.

SAFETY INFORMATION

• When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper

clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a

connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may

cause burns or a re.

• Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If

contact accidentally occurs, ush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek

medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns

• Do not use a battery pack or tool that is damaged or modied. Damaged or modied

batteries may exhibit unpredictable behavior resulting in re, explosion or risk of injury.

• Do not expose a battery pack or tool to re or excessive temperature. Exposure to re

or temperature above 130 °C may cause explosion.

• Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or tool outside

the temperature range specied in the instructions. Charging improperly or at

temperatures outside the specied range may damage the battery and increase the risk of

re.

Service

• Have your power tool serviced by a qualied repair person using only identical

replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

• Never service damaged battery packs. Service of battery packs should only be performed

by the manufacturer or authorized service providers.

Specic Safety Warnings for Polisher

Safety Warnings Common for Polishing:

• This power tool is intended to function as a polisher. Read all safety warnings,

instructions, illustrations and specications provided with this power tool. Failure to

follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, re and/or serious injury.

• Operations such as grinding, sanding, wire brushing or cutting-off are not

recommended to be performed with this power tool. Operations for which the power tool

was not designed may create a hazard and cause personal injury.

• Do not use accessories which are not specically designed and recommended by the

tool manufacturer. Just because the accessory can be attached to your power tool, it does

not assure safe operation.

• The rated speed of the accessory must be at least equal to the maximum speed

marked on the power tool. Accessories running faster than their rated speed can break

and y apart.

• The outside diameter and the thickness of your accessory must be within the

capacity rating of your power tool. Incorrectly sized accessories cannot be adequately

guarded or controlled.

• Threaded mounting of accessories must match the polisher spindle thread. For

accessories mounted by anges, the arbor hole of the accessory must t the locating

diameter of the ange. Accessories that do not match the mounting hardware of the power

tool will run out of balance, vibrate excessively and may cause loss of control.

• Do not use a damaged accessory. Before each use inspect the accessory such as

abrasive wheels for chips and cracks, backing pad for cracks, tear or excess wear,

wire brush for loose or cracked wires. If power tool or accessory is dropped, inspect

for damage or install an undamaged accessory. After inspecting and installing an

accessory, position yourself and bystanders away from the plane of the rotating

accessory and run the power tool at maximum no-load speed for one minute.

Damaged accessories will normally break apart during this test time.

SAFETY INFORMATION

• Wear personal protective equipment. Depending on application, use face shield,

safety goggles or safety glasses. As appropriate, wear dust mask, hearing protectors,

gloves and workshop apron capable of stopping small abrasive or workpiece

fragments. The eye protection must be capable of stopping ying debris generated by

various operations. The dust mask or respirator must be capable of ltrating particles

generated by your operation. Prolonged exposure to high intensity noise may cause hearing

loss.

• Keep bystanders a safe distance away from work area. Anyone entering the work

area must wear personal protective equipment. Fragments of workpiece or of a broken

accessory may y away and cause injury beyond immediate area of operation.

• Position the cord clear of the spinning accessory.

• If you lose control, the cord may be cut or snagged and your hand or arm may be pulled into

the spinning accessory.

• Never lay the power tool down until the accessory has come to a complete stop. The

spinning accessory may grab the surface and pull the power tool out of your control.

• Do not run the power tool while carrying it at your side. Accidental contact with the

spinning accessory could snag your clothing, pulling the accessory into your body.

• Regularly clean the power tool’s air vents. The motor’s fan will draw the dust inside the

housing and excessive accumulation of powdered metal may cause electrical hazards.

• Do not operate the power tool near ammable materials. Sparks could ignite these

materials.

• Do not use accessories that require liquid coolants. Using water or other liquid coolants

may result in electrocution or shock.

Kickback and Related Warnings

Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snagged rotating wheel, backing pad, brush

or any other accessory. Pinching or snagging causes rapid stalling of the rotating accessory

which in turn causes the uncontrolled power tool to be forced in the direction opposite of the

accessory’s rotation at the point of the binding.

For example, if an abrasive wheel is snagged or pinched by the workpiece, the edge of the

wheel that is entering into the pinch point can dig into the surface of the material causing the

wheel to climb out or kick out. The wheel may either jump toward or away from the operator,

depending on direction of the wheel’s movement at the point of pinching. Abrasive wheels may

also break under these conditions.

Kickback is the result of power tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions

and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below.

• Maintain a rm grip on the power tool and position your body and arm to allow you to

resist kickback forces. Always use auxiliary handle, if provided, for maximum control

over kickback or torque reaction during start-up. The operator can control torque

reactions or kickback forces, if proper precautions are taken.

• Never place your hand near the rotating accessory. Accessory may kickback over your

hand.

• Do not position your body in the area where power tool will move if kickback occurs.

Kickback will propel the tool in direction opposite to the wheel’s movement at the point of

snagging.

• Use special care when working corners, sharp edges etc. Avoid bouncing and

snagging the accessory. Corners, sharp edges or bouncing tend to snag the rotating

accessory and cause loss of control or kickback.

SAFETY INFORMATION

• Do not attach a saw chain woodcarving blade or toothed saw blade. Such blades

create frequent kickback and loss of control.

Safety Warnings Specic for Polishing Operations:

• Do not allow any loose portion of the polishing bonnet or its attachment strings

to spin freely. Tuck away or trim any loose attachment strings. Loose and spinning

attachment strings can entangle your ngers or snag on the workpiece.

Additional Safety Warnings

WARNING

• To reduce the risk of injury, when working in dusty situations, wear appropriate respiratory

protection or use an OSHA compliant dust extraction solution.

• Always use common sense and be cautious when using tools. It is not possible to anticipate

every situation that could result in a dangerous outcome.

• Do not use this tool if you do not understand these operating instructions or you feel

the work is beyond your capability; contact Milwaukee Tool or a trained professional for

additional information or training.

PREPARATION

Know Your Polisher

Before attempting to use the polisher, familiarize yourself with all its operating features and

safety requirements.

WARNING

• Do not allow familiarity with the polisher to cause carelessness. Remember that one

careless moment is enough to cause severe injury. Before attempting to use any tool, be

sure to become familiar with all the operating features and safety instructions.

• Do not attempt to modify this tool or create accessories not recommended for use with this

tool. Any such alteration or modication is misuse and could result in a hazardous condition

leading to possible serious personal injury.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

1. To Attach Battery Pack

a. Align the raised portion on the battery pack

with the grooves on the bottom of the tool, then

slide the battery pack onto the tool, as shown.

b. Make sure that the latches on the battery pack

snap into place and the battery pack is secured

to the tool before beginning operation.

NOTICE: When placing the battery pack on the

tool, be sure that the raised rib on the battery pack

aligns with the groove on the tool and the latches

snap into place properly. Improper assembly of

the battery pack can cause damage to internal

components.

To Detach Battery Pack

a. Press the battery-release buttons to release the battery pack.

b. Pull backward on the battery pack to remove it from the tool.

WARNING

• Battery tools are always in operating condition. Therefore, always remove the battery pack

when the tool is not in use or when carrying the polisher at your side.

2. Variable-speed Trigger Switch

a. To turn the polisher ON, press the variable-

speed trigger switch (A).

b. To turn it OFF, release the variable-speed

trigger switch.

The trigger switch delivers higher speed with

increased trigger pressure and lower speed with

decreased trigger pressure.

Lock-on Button

This tool is equipped with a lock-on button (B),

which is convenient for continuous polishing for

extended periods of time.

a. To polish continuously, press and hold the

trigger switch (A) and then press the lock-on button. Release the trigger switch.

b. To unlock the lock-on button and stop continuous polishing, press the trigger switch.

3. Variable-Speed Dial

Adjust the polishing speed with the variable-speed

dial (D).

Turn the dial to any position between “1” for the

lowest speed and “5” for the highest speed.

WARNING

• Never change the speed while the tool is

running. Failure to obey this caution could make

you lose control of the tool and result in serious

personal injury.

4. Side Handle

The side handle (L) may be installed on either side

of the gear case. For ease of operation, position

the side handle in the location that offers the best

control.

a. To install the side handle, remove the battery

pack, then thread the side handle into one of

the auxiliary-handle sockets (E) and tighten the

handle securely by turning it clockwise.

b. To remove the side handle, remove the battery

pack, then loosen the side handle by turning it

counterclockwise.

5. Bail Handle

To Install the Bail Handle

1. Remove the battery pack.

2. Remove the side handle.

3. Position the bail handle (K) in the position

(left or right orientation) that offers best control.

4. Slide the handle around the front of the tool and

up onto the body of the tool.

5. Fit the handle into both auxiliary-handle

sockets (E).

6. Select one of the three angle positions that

offers best control: forward, 90°, or back.

7. Insert the hex cap screws (I) into each side of

the bail handle and tighten them securely with

the hex wrench (H).

To Remove the Bail Handle

1. Remove battery pack.

2. Loosen the screws with the hex wrench and

remove the bail handle.

6. Inlet Vent Guard

Using the inlet-vent guard (C) will increase the

performance and extend the life of the tool.

a. To remove the inlet-vent guard, insert a at

screwdriver (not included) into the notch at

the top of the inlet-vent guard, and pry it away

from the tool.

b. To attach the inlet-vent guard, snap the guard

into the tool’s foot.

Clean the Inlet-Vent Guard

To clean the inlet-vent guard, tap it against a hard

surface, or blow it clean with compressed air.

WARNING

• Always wear goggles when using compressed air to clean power tools.

• To reduce the risk of injury, wear safety goggles or glasses with side shields.

7. Installing Polishing Pads

The polisher is shipped with three pads, each

designed for specic applications.

Yellow Pad: For removing severe oxidation,

abrasions, and scratches with abrasive

compounds.

Blue Pad: For heavy polishing with cleaning

waxes, one-step polishers, or “all-in-one” products.

Black Pad: Finishing surfaces to remove swirls and

apply thin coats of wax, sealants, and glazes.

Selecting the correct size grit and type polishing

pad is an extremely important step in achieving a

high-quality nish.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

In general, coarse grit will remove the most material and ner grit will produce the best nish

in all polishing operations. The condition of the surface to be polished will determine which grit

and type will do the job. Start on a test sample of the workpiece.

a. Remove the battery from the tool.

b. Align the polishing disc with the base plate (F), then press the fuzzy side of the pad against

the plate as tightly as possible.

8. Polishing

WARNING

• To reduce the risk of injury, always wear proper eye protection marked to comply with ANSI

Z87.1. When working in dusty situations, wear appropriate respiratory protection or use an

OSHA-compliant dust-extraction solution.

Always use the side or the bail handle for proper control.

Move the polisher back and forth in long, sweeping strokes. Too much pressure, the wrong

angle, or improper motion may cause swirl marks or burning.

For detailed polishing instructions, read the instructions provided with the nishes, waxes, and

polishes.

Preventing Burning Through Paint

It is easy to burn through the paint on a surface. This can occur if you polish at too high a

speed or if you allow the polishing pad to stay in one spot for even a short period of time. To

prevent burning through paint, use very light pressure and keep the polisher moving constantly,

especially when working near edges or where there are abrupt changes in the contour of the

work surface. Be particularly careful when using higher speeds, which are more likely to burn

through paint.

Preventing Snagging

Snagging occurs when polishing pads get caught on rough edges of a work surface. Snagging

can cause the tool to suddenly “kick back” and it may cause the pad to burn through the paint.

To reduce the risk of snagging, use the polisher at low speeds when polishing rough surfaces.

For tricky areas such as near trim or between a mirror and window on a car, do not take

chances with a polisher. Polish these surfaces by hand.

• Avoid snagging on rough surfaces to reduce the possibility of “kick back.”

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

WARNING

• All maintenance should only be carried out by a qualied service technician.

Cleaning

WARNING

• Before cleaning or performing any maintenance, remove the battery pack. For safe and

proper operation, always keep the tool and its ventilation slots clean.

• Always use only a soft, dry cloth to clean your polisher; never use detergent or alcohol.

Replace the base plate

To remove the base plate:

Position the tool upside down, use the open-

end wrench (G) to clamp the shaft connected to

the base plate (F), and unscrew the base plate

counterclockwise to remove it;

To install the base plate:

Position the tool upside down, use the open-end

wrench to clamp the shaft connected to the base

plate, turn the base plate clockwise to install it and

tighten securely.

NOTE: Use correct size accessories. To reduce

the risk of injury, use only accessories rated at least equal to the maximum speed marked

on the tool. Kobalt #KPOBP 124-03 base plate, #KPOPP 3ASST-03 polishing pads are

recommended.

For 5 years from the date of purchase, the tool is warranted for the original purchaser to be

free from defects in material and workmanship. This guarantee does not cover damage due

to abuse, normal wear, improper maintenance, neglect, unauthorized repair/alteration, or

expendable parts and accessories expected to become unusable after a reasonable period of

use. This warranty is limited to 90 days for commercial and rental use.

ADVERTENCIA

• La operación de cualquier herramienta eléctrica puede provocar que objetos extraños

se arrojen a sus ojos y, de esta manera, se causen graves daños oculares. Use siempre

lentes o gafas de seguridad con protecciones laterales y, cuando sea necesario, una

mascarilla que cubra todo el rostro antes de comenzar a operar una herramienta eléctrica.

Recomendamos usar una máscara de seguridad de visión amplia sobre los lentes o gafas

de seguridad con protecciones estándar. Siempre use lentes de protección que cumplan

con la norma ANSI Z87.1.

• Parte del polvo producido por el lijado, el serruchado, la trituración y el taladrado eléctrico

y otras actividades de construcción contiene productos químicos reconocidos por el estado

de California como causantes de cáncer, defectos congénitos u otros daños en el aparato

reproductivo. Algunos ejemplos de estos productos químicos son los siguientes:

– Plomo de pinturas a base de plomo

– Sílice cristalina de ladrillos, cemento y otros productos de mampostería

– Arsénico y cromo de madera tratada con químicos

• El riesgo que corre debido a la exposición varía según la frecuencia con la que realiza este

tipo de trabajo. Para reducir la exposición a estos productos químicos:

– Trabaje en un área bien ventilada.

– Trabaje con equipo de seguridad aprobado, como las mascarillas antipolvo

especialmente diseñadas para ltrar partículas microscópicas.

– Evite estar en contacto prolongado con el polvo provocado por el lijado, el serruchado,

la trituración, el taladrado y otras actividades de construcción. Use ropa protectora y lave

todas las áreas expuestas del cuerpo con agua y jabón. Si el polvo ingresa a la boca

o a los ojos, o si cae sobre la piel, es posible que provoque la absorción de productos

químicos dañinos.

Advertencias generales de seguridad en el manejo de herramientas eléctricas

ADVERTENCIA

• Lea todas las advertencias de seguridad, instrucciones, ilustraciones y

especicaciones que se incluyen para esta herramienta eléctrica. No cumplir con

todas las instrucciones que se detallan a continuación podría provocar descargas

eléctricas, incendios o lesiones graves.

Guarde todas las advertencias e instrucciones para referencia futura

El término “herramienta eléctrica” que aparece en las advertencias hace referencia a la

herramienta eléctrica que se conecta a la línea principal (con cable) o a la herramienta

eléctrica que funciona a batería (inalámbrica).

Seguridad en el área de trabajo

• Mantenga el área de trabajo limpia y bien iluminada. Las áreas desordenadas u oscuras

aumentan las posibilidades de accidentes.

• No utilice herramientas eléctricas en atmósferas en las que exista riesgo de

explosión, por ejemplo, en presencia de líquidos inamables, gases o polvo. Las

herramientas eléctricas producen chispas que podrían encender el polvo o humo.

• Mantenga a los niños y a otras personas alejados mientras utiliza una herramienta

eléctrica. Las distracciones pueden hacerle perder el control.

Seguridad eléctrica

• Los enchufes de las herramientas eléctricas deben encajar en el tomacorriente. No

modique el enchufe de ninguna manera. No utilice ningún enchufe adaptador con

herramientas eléctricas con puesta a tierra. Los enchufes sin modicaciones y que

encajan en los tomacorrientes reducen el riesgo de descarga eléctrica.

• Evite el contacto del cuerpo con supercies conectadas a tierra, como tuberías,

radiadores, extractores o refrigeradores. Si su cuerpo tiene conexión a tierra, existe un

riesgo mayor de sufrir una descarga eléctrica.

• No exponga las herramientas eléctricas a la lluvia o a condiciones de humedad. Si

ingresa agua en una herramienta eléctrica, aumenta el riesgo de descarga eléctrica.

• No maltrate el cable. Nunca use el cable para transportar, jalar ni desenchufar la

herramienta eléctrica. Mantenga el cable alejado del calor, el aceite, los bordes

losos o las piezas en movimiento. Los cables dañados o enredados aumentan el riesgo

de descarga eléctrica.

• Si utiliza una herramienta eléctrica en exteriores, use una extensión eléctrica

apropiada para uso en exteriores. Usar un cable apto para exteriores reduce el riesgo de

sufrir una descarga eléctrica.

• Si es inevitable utilizar una herramienta eléctrica en un lugar húmedo, use un

suministro protegido con un interruptor diferencial residual (RCD, por sus siglas en

inglés). El uso de un RCD disminuye el riesgo de descargas eléctricas.

Seguridad personal

• Manténgase alerta, preste atención a lo que hace y utilice el sentido común cuando

utilice una herramienta eléctrica. No use una herramienta eléctrica si está cansado

o bajo los efectos de drogas, alcohol o medicamentos. Un momento de desatención
