O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER is a new software tool for controlling the
properties and functions of an OverView D display wall. Via a graphical
user interface the entire wall as well as individual projection systems can
be controlled and operated.
Release note
OverView Control Manager – Release 1.0
Wall control software
O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER finally turns a configuration of individual projection modules into a
display wall with common properties and features. On a single mouse click the entire display
wall can be switched on or off respectively. The software also allows setting all projection
modules to a common brightness target, which can be either static (fixed) or dynamic to
always achieve maximum (or minimum) common brightness between projection modules.
Changing the active lamp simultaneously in all projection modules of the wall or activation of
the darker / the brighter lamp of each unit has also been implemented on a single command.
In case hot standby operation mode is enabled, also the entire wall can be switched to either
hot standby or cold standby operation mode.
On top of these actions the health of the display wall is monitored and indicated. If the status
bar shows a green icon, all properties monitored by O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER are ok! In
case of a different color, information about the problem can be found on a dedicated dialog.
In addition to the wall functions naturally the analogous commands can be directed to an
individual projection module or an individual lamp.
Whereas the wall functions and commands are activated via menu items or via tool bar
buttons, a single cube or an individual lamp is addressed via its right-click context menu.
Therefore the O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER Window shows a grid, which can be switched
between module view and lamp view.

The health status is also indicated in the representatives of the modules and lamps, thus also
showing at a glance the source of trouble. The uniformity in color of all cells is an indicator of
the brightness uniformity of the display wall. Without the need of any other tools, authorized
and trained personnel can also manually adjust the color of a projection module.
Different user modes
The application can be launched in three different user modes. The user interface as well as
the available functions and commands are adapted to the three levels of experience. Whereas
in operator mode the functions are restricted to switching the wall on or off and to changing
to the different status views, in service mode lamp commands are available and brightness
can be adjusted. The entire range of functions and commands is implemented in the expert
mode, which also allows re-calibration of the brightness and manual color adjustment of
individual projection systems.
In the advanced run modes the window can be expanded to show property tables listing all
relevant data of the projection unit and the lamps. In the table the grid addresses of the
projectors are listed as a reference between a row in the table and the related projector in the
grid. In addition selecting a cell in the grid will highlight the respective row in the table and
vice versa.
System architecture and system requirements
O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER is a client/server application. The server components are usually
installed on the wall controller connected via RS232 cabling to the display wall. The client
components can be installed on any workstation in the network. Server-client communication
is based on a SOAP protocol. It is possible to start multiple clients on one or multiple
workstations.
The O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER is a Java application and requires Java Runtime Environment
1.4.2.x. The minimum hardware requirement for server and client components are
workstations with a PIII processor, 400 MHz, 256 MB. However it is recommended to install
the server components on workstations with PIV, 2 GHz, 512 MB, the client components on
workstations with PIII, 1 GHz, 512 MB.
Release 1.0 supports Windows platforms only. Future releases will be platform independent.
So in case of Linux systems, the software has to be installed on a separate Windows PC.
Compatibility
O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER Release 1.0 is exclusively a wall control software. For desktop
management still Barco wall management software is required. On Windows system O
VERVIEW
CONTROL MANAGER can run simultaneously with APOLLO on a TRANSFORM A controller if the device
control of A
POLLO is deactivated (Barco RC Agent service has to be stopped). This requirement
has also impact on the soon-to-come scenario management in A
POLLO: only scenarios without
device control can be created when running the O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER.

Limitations and future developments
As stated above, O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER has currently impact on the APOLLO
functionalities. The next release of O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER (scheduled for Q2, 2005) will
also support A
POLLO device control.
Although the health status is monitored, O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER does not provide time
stamping and logging of errors. This functionality is part of the EMS software, which will be
merged with O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER.
O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER offers manual (visual) adjustment. Measurement controlled
adjustment of the display wall still requires CAST. Effort will be taken to merge also these two
applications.
Marketing strategy and article numbers
O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER Release 1.0 is free and will be included in the standard delivery of
every O
VERVIEW D display wall, starting from March, 2005. The CD-ROM will not only include
the O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER software and its manuals, but also the required Java Runtime
Environment software, the manual of the O
VERVIEW D series as PDF file and the Acrobat
Reader.
There is no need to order it separately with a new installation, and there won't be an
additional line item on the BFO quotes.
For existing installation the O
VERVIEW D CD-ROM can be ordered at no costs.

Frequently asked questions
Question Answer
What is OVERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER?
O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER is a software to control
an entire display wall as well as individual
projection systems.
It is not a wall management software.
It is not a replacement for CAST.
How are the different user modes realized?
The installation of the O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER
software has to be done only once to have the
possibility to run it in three different user modes.
The user mode level is a start parameter of the
application.
During installation, a shortcut is created to launch
the user mode for operators and the user mode for
service.
However, the user mode for experts requires to
know the start parameter and to create/modify a
shortcut.
Can OVERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER be also used in
existing installations?
Provided the projection systems are updated with
the required firmware version (Firmware version
2.1x or higher), OVERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER can also
be used with existing installations.
Can OVERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER run
concurrently with A
POLLO / OSIRIS?
Yes, it can run concurrently with A
POLLO on a
TransForm A controller, but A
POLLO device control
functionality won't be available (B
ARCO RC AGENT
service has to be stopped!)
In X11 environment, the OVERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER
has to be installed on a Windows PC.
Will there be API functionality for OVERVIEW
CONTROL MANAGER?
O
VERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER Release 1.0 does not
offer an open API interface.
For the future an open API is foreseen.
With OVERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER running,
can I use the API of A
POLLO?
Yes, but of course except for the device control
functionalities.
Does OVERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER offer an SNMP
interface?
Not in Release 1.0
The next release scheduled for Q2, 2005 will
include an SNMP interface. This will then also bring
back A
POLLO device control functionality.
How can I connect a Crestron/ AMX controller?
It might be possible via SOAP programming, (but
has to be investigated).
For the future, a Crestron / AMX compatible API is
foreseen.
Will projection systems of the OVERVIEW P
series be also supported?
No, OVERVIEW CONTROL MANAGER will only support the
O
VERVIEW D series
Can I run more than one client?
Yes. Multiple clients can be used to interact with the
wall from anywhere in your local network. Conflicts
are handled by the server.
