Useautomotivegasoline(unleadedor lowleadedtominimizecombus-
tionchamberdeposits)witha minimumof87octane.Gasolinewith
upto 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButylEther)canbe
used.Neveruseanoil/gasolinemixtureor dirtygasoline.Avoidgetting
dirt,dust,or waterinthefueltank.DONOTuseE85gasoline.
• Refuelina well-ventilatedareawiththeenginestopped.Donot
smokeor allowflamesor sparksintheareawheretheengineis
refueledorwheregasolineisstored.
• Donotoverfillthefueltank.Afterrefueling,makesurethetank
capisclosedproperlyand securely.
• Becarefulnottospillfuelwhenrefueling.Spilledfuelor fuelvapor
mayignite.Ifanyfuelisspilled,makesuretheareaisdrybefore
startingtheengine.
• Avoidrepeatedor prolongedcontactwithskinor breathingof
vapor.
Useextremecarewhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremely
flammableandthevaporsareexplosive.Neverfuelthemachine
indoorsor whiletheengineishotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipesand othersourcesofignition.

Cleanaroundfuelfillbeforeremovingcapto fueltoavoiddirtand
debrisfallingintofueltank.
A fuellevelindicatorislocatedinthefueltank.Filltankuntilfuel
reachesthefuellevelindictor.SeeFigure10inset.Becarefulnot
tooverfill.
Starting The Engine
Determinethatyourhome'swiringisa three-wiregroundedsystem.
Aska licensedelectricianifyouare notcertain.
Ifyouhavea groundedthree-prongreceptacle,proceedasfollows.
Ifyoudonothavetheproperhousewiring,DONOTusetheelectric
starterunderanyconditions.
1. Plugtheextensioncordintotheoutletlocatedontheengine's
surface.Plugtheotherendofextensioncordintoa three-prong
120-volt,grounded,ACoutletina well-ventilatedarea.
2. Movethrottlecontrolto FAST(rabbit),_ position.
3. MovechokecontroltotheCHOKEposition I,,"1(co dengine
start).Ifengineis warm,placechokecontrolinRUNposition.
4. Pushprimerthree(3) times,makingsuretocoverventholewhen
pushing.If engineiswarm,pushprimeronlyonce.Alwayscover
ventholewhenpushing.Coolweathermayrequireprimingto be
repeated.
5. Pushand holdstarterbuttondownto startengine.Oncethe
enginestarts,immediatelyreleasestarterbutton.Electric
starterisequippedwiththermaloverloadprotection;systemwill
temporarilyshutdowntoallowstartertocoolifelectricstarter
becomesoverloaded.
6. Astheenginewarms,slowlyrotatethechokecontrolto RUN
position.Iftheenginefalters,restartengineand runwithchoke
controlat half-chokepositionfora shortperiodoftime,andthen
slowlyrotatethechokeintoRUNposition.
7. Afterengineisrunning,disconnectpowercordfromelectric
starter.Whendisconnecting,alwaysunplugtheendatthewall
outletbeforeunpluggingtheoppositeendfromtheengine.
Recoil Starter
Alwayskeephandsand feetclearofmovingparts.Donotusea
pressurizedstartingfluid.Vaporsareflammable.

NOTE:Allowtheenginetowarmupfora fewminutesafterstarting.
Theenginewillnotdevelopfullpoweruntilitreachesoperating
temperatures.
1. Makecertainboththeaugercontrolanddrivecontrolare inthe
disengaged(released)position.
2. insertkeyintoslot.Makesureit snapsintoplace.Donotattempt
toturnthekey.
NOTE:Theenginecannotstartwithoutthekeyfullyinsertedintothe
switch.
Electric Starter
Theoptionalelectricstarterisequippedwitha groundedthree-wire
powercordandplug,andisdesignedtooperateon 120volt AC
householdcurrent.It mustbeusedwitha properlygroundedthree-
prongreceptacleatalltimestoavoidthepossibilityofelectricshock.
Followallinstructionscarefullypriortooperatingtheelectricstarter.
DONOTuseelectricstarterintherain.
Donotpullthestarterhandlewhiletheenginerunning.
1. Movethrottlecontrolto FAST(rabbit)_ position.
2. MovechokecontroltotheCHOKEposition I.,,¢1(coldengine
start).Ifengineiswarm,placechokecontrolinRUNposition.
3. Pushprimerthree(3) times,makingsuretocoverventholewhen
pushing.If engineiswarm,pushprimeronlyonce.Alwayscover
ventholewhenpushing.Coolweathermayrequireprimingto be
repeated.
4. Pullgentlyonthestarterhandleuntilit beginsto resist,thenpull
quicklyandforcefullytoovercomethecompression.Engineshould
start.Donotreleasethehandleandallowit tosnapback.Return
ropeSLOWLYtooriginalposition.If required,repeatthis step.
5. Astheenginewarms,slowlyrotatethechokecontrolto RUNposi-
tion. Iftheenginefalters,restartengineand runwithchokecontrol
at half-chokepositionfora shortperiodoftime,andthenslowly
rotatethechokeintoRUNposition.
Toavoidunsupervisedengineoperation,neverleavethemachine
unattendedwiththeenginerunning.Turntheengineoff afteruseand
removeignitionkey.
