2 2 Getting Started
Note:Thegassupplylineshouldbepurgedofanytrapped
airpriortotherstringoftheunit.
NOTICE: This installation must conform with local codes.
In the absence of local codes you must comply with the
National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1-latest edition in
the U.S.A. and the CAN/CGA B149 Installation Codes in
Canada.
CAUTION! When installing this log set in a factory built
replace, be certain to consult the replace installation
manual. ALL knockouts in the replace through which the
gas supply line is run MUST be resealed with insulation
after the gas line is in place.
WARNING! Risk of Asphyxiation! Improper positioning
of log set may allow spillage and prohibit proper draft.
Position the log set as close to the back of the replace as
possible.
A. Inspect Appliance and Components
• Carefullyremovetheapplianceandcomponentsfrom
thepackaging.
• Ifpackagedseparately,thelogsetandappliancegrate
mustbeinstalled.
• Reporttoyourdealeranypartsdamagedinshipment,
particularlytheconditionoftheglass.
Read all of the instructions before starting the instal-
lation. Follow these instructions carefully during the
installation to ensure maximum safety and benet.

1. GAS CONNECTION

gasline,witha3/8inch(10mm)reductionforhook-up,is
usuallysucientfortheGasLogset;however,iftherun
isunusuallylong,alargerlinemayberequired.Contact
yourlocalgascompanyorDepartmentofBuildingand
Safetyifthereareanyquestions.

4. REMOTE CONTROL
• Ifaremotecontrolisused,thereceivercannotbeplaced
undertheburner.Ifpossible,placethereceiveroutside
thecombustionchamber.
• Ifthereceivermustbeplacedinthecombustionchamber,
theprotectiveheatshieldMUSTbeused.SeeFigure4.
• Positionreceiveronleftsideofgaslogset(oppositethe
pilot). Place protective heat shield over receiver. See
Figure5.

3. AIR SHUTTER SETTINGS.
Thisappliancehasanadjustableairshutter(whichcon-
trolstheprimaryair)factorysetfortheminimumvertical
ventrun.Ifyourinstallationhasmorethantheminimum
requiredverticalventlength,adjustmentoftheairshutter
may be necessary to obtain optimal ame appearance.
This should be adjusted by a qualied installer at the
time of installation.

andcoolingairmustbeprovidedortheunitwill
notfunctionproperly.

B. Maintenance
Periodicallyremovethelogsandexaminetheburner.If
dirty,cleanwithasoftbrush.Alsoexaminetheareaaround
theburnerairshutterandthepilot.Anydirtorlintinthis
area should be removed. This will ensure long life and
trouble-freeoperation.
The appliance and venting system should be inspected
beforeinitialuseandinspectedandcleanedatleastan-
nuallybyaqualiedeldserviceperson.
A. Before Lighting Appliance
BeforelightingthisappliancedetermineifithasaStanding
Pilotor IntelliFire® ignition systembyviewingthe wiring
systemandgasvalve.Ifthisappliancehasaredorblack
ignitorbutton(seeFigure3andFigure4)thisappliance
hasaStandingPilotignitionsystem.Ifthereisnoredor
blackignitorbutton,thisappliancehasanIntelliFireignition
system.
Before operating this appliance have a qualied tech-
nician:
• Removeallshippingmaterials.
• Review proper placement of logs, rockwool, and ver-
miculite.
• Checkthewiring.
• Ensurethattherearenogasleaks.
Uponcompletingthegaslineconnection,asmallamount
ofairwillbeinthelines.Whenrstlightingthepilotlight,
itwilltakeafewminutesforthelinestopurgethemselves
of this air.  Once the purging is complete, the pilot and
burnerwill light and operate asindicated inthe instruc-
tionmanual.Subsequentlightingoftheappliancewillnot
requiresuchpurging.

A.Thermocouple. Checkthatthepilotameimpingesonthethermocouple.Adjustthe
pilotforproperameimpingement.
Ensurethatthethermocoupleconnectionatthegasvalveisfully
insertedandtight(handtightenplus1/4turn).
Verifypropervoltageoutputfromthethermocoupletothevalve.
Placeonemillivoltmeterleadwireonthethermocouplecopperlead.
Placethesecondleadwireonthesolderbuttononthebackofthe
valve(bluewire).Startthepilotandholdthevalveknobin.The
millivoltreadingshouldread8-16millivolts.Ifmillivoltreadingis
lessthan8millivolts,replacethermocouple.
B.Impropergasinletpressure. Naturalgasshouldbe5-10in.w.c.Propaneshouldbe11-13in.
w.c.Verifypressurewithmanometer.
C.Valve. Ifthethermocoupleisproducing8-16millivolts,replacecontrolvalve.
