necessary for the safe operation of the equipment in your operating environment.
Installation in cupboards and safes
In the event that the product is placed within a cupboard or safe, together with other heat generating
equipment, ensure proper ventilation.
Do not operate in an explosive atmosphere
Do not operate the equipment in the presence of flammable gases or fumes. Operation of any
electrical equipment in such an environment constitutes a definite safety hazard.
Do not make repairs yourself
Do not attempt to open your communicator or disassemble it. You run the risk of electric shock and
voiding the limited warranty. No user-serviceable parts are inside.

Important user information
7
Medical devices
Operation of any radio transmitting equipment, including mobile or cordless phones, may interfere with
the functionality of inadequately protected medical devices. Consult a physician or the manufacturer of
the medical device to determine if they are adequately shielded from external RF energy or if you have
any questions. Switch off your communicator in health care facilities when any regulations posted in
these areas instruct you to do so. Hospitals or health care facilities may be using equipment that could
be sensitive to external RF energy.
Implanted medical devices
Manufacturers of medical devices recommend that a minimum separation of 15.3cm (6") should be
maintained between a wireless device and an implanted medical device, such as a pacemaker or
implanted cardioverter defibrillator, to avoid potential interference with the medical device. Persons
who have such devices should:
Always keep the wireless device more than 15.3cm (6") from the medical device when the
wireless device is turned on.
Not carry the wireless device in a breast pocket.
Hold the wireless device to the ear opposite the medical device to minimize the potential for
interference.
Turn the wireless device off immediately if there is any reason to suspect that interference is
taking place.
Read and follow the directions from the manufacturer of their implanted medical device.
If you have any questions about using your wireless device with an implanted medical device, consult
your health care provider.
Switch off in aircraft
Follow any restrictions. Wireless devices can cause interference in aircraft.
Switch off when refuelling
Do not use the communicator at a refuelling point. Do not use near fuel or chemicals.
Life support policy

Batteries
The HRC-3100 communicator uses Lithium-Ion battery pack. Do not:
Use the communicator in a humid, wet and/or corrosive environment.
Put, store or leave the communicator in or near a heat source, in high temperature location, in
strong direct sunlight, in a microwave oven or in a pressurized container.
Expose the communicator to temperatures over 60°C (140°F).
Expose the battery pack to a fire.
Heat the battery pack.
Short the terminals of the battery pack.
Carry or store the battery pack together with metal objects.
Expose the battery pack to liquid, or allow the contacts to get wet.
Solder directly onto the battery pack.
Discharge the battery pack using any communicator except those that are specified. When
used in devices other than those specified, the battery pack can be damaged and its life
expectancy reduced. If the communicator causes any abnormal current to flow, it may cause
the battery pack to become hot, ignite or explode and cause serious injury.
Pierce, open or disassemble the battery pack.
Operate the communicator without the battery pack. Operating the communicator without the
main battery pack can significantly reduce lifetime of the backup battery pack.
Charge the battery pack in a car during the night in the cold freezing weather.
Leave the communicator on charger behind the car window for a long time in hot sunny
weather if the car is not ventilated or air conditioned.
Failure to follow these guidelines may cause the battery pack to leak acid, become hot, explode or
ignite and cause injury and/or damage.
If the battery pack leaks and you come into contact with the leaked fluids, rinse thoroughly with water
and seek medical attention immediately.
For safety reasons, and to prolong the lifetime of the battery pack, charging does not occur at low
temperatures (below 0°C/32°F) or high temperatures (over 45°C/113°F).
Only use the Li-Ion battery pack provided by Eurotech.
The use of any other battery pack not sold/manufactured by Eurotech in the HRC-3100 communicator will
void your warranty and may result in damage to the HRC-3100 communicator.
Battery product safety:
The Lithium-Ion battery pack contained in the product must be recycled or disposed of properly.
Only use the AC adapter that is provided / recommended by Eurotech.
Important user information
9
Storage of the battery pack
The battery pack should be stored within the range of temperatures specified in the product
specification, otherwise loss of functionality, leakage and/or rust may result. Optimal storage
temperature is -20°C (-4°F) to 25°C (77°F).
Long term storage of battery pack
The battery pack should be used within a short period after charging because long-term storage may
cause loss of capacity due to self-discharging. If long-term storage is necessary, the battery pack should
be stored at 50% of its capacity range because storage at higher capacity range may cause loss of
characteristics. Optimal storage temperature is -20°C (-4°F) to 25°C (77°F). Long term storage may
reduce battery pack capacity. It is not recommended to store the battery pack for longer than 1 year.
Continuous operation
Operating the battery pack continuously with full charging capacity state in combination with high
ambient temperature may cause loss of charge or damage to the battery pack. We recommend
discharging the battery pack once a month.
Important handling information
Carrying the HRC-3100 communicator
The communicator contains sensitive components. Do not bend, drop, or crush the communicator.
LCD display care and maintenance
Only use the stylus pen provided by Eurotech or your fingers to operate LCD touch panel. You can use
gloves when operating the LCD touch panel with your fingers. Do not use any other tools, sharp
objects or a pen to operate the LCD touch panel.
To clean the LCD screen, lightly wipe the dirty surface with absorbent cotton or other soft material, for
example chamois, soaked in the LCD liquid cleaner. Do not scrub the LCD screen hard. Always wipe
the surface horizontally or vertically. Never wipe in a circle. To prevent the display surface from
damage and to keep the appearance in good state, it is sufficient, in general, to wipe it with absorbent
cotton.
The LCD display is equipped with screen protector foil to ensure maximum optical performance and
mechanical protection of the screen. When the foil is worn out by extensive usage, you can replace it
with a new LCD screen protector offered by Eurotech as a spare part. Changing the LCD screen
protector requires a certain level of ability, so we strongly recommend you leave this operation to an
authorized service centre.
The response time of the LCD is increased significantly at temperatures lower than the specified
operating temperature range. However, this phenomenon does not represent a defect in the LCD
module. It returns to normal in the standard operating temperature range.
If the display area is pushed during an operation, some display patterns may be displayed abnormally.
The pointed position of the touch panel may shift due to a change in the touch panel parameters
(depending on the operating condition). To compensate for this shift, the communicator is given a
calibration function.

Keeping the HRC-3100 communicator within acceptable temperatures
Operate the communicator in a place where the temperature is between -10°C (14°F) to 60°C (140°F).
When you are using the communicator or charging the battery pack, it is normal for the communicator
to get warm. The back panel of the communicator acts as a cooling surface that transfers heat from
inside the unit to the cooler air outside.
Cleaning the HRC-3100 communicator and docking pads
To clean the communicator:
1 Undock the communicator from the cradle and turn the communicator into SUSPEND mode.
2 Use a soft, slightly damp lint-free cloth for cleaning the body of the communicator. Avoid getting
moisture in the openings.
Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or
abrasives to clean the communicator.
Special care must be taken to clean and maintain the docking pads and spring contacts. Use a dry
Antistatic brush [1] to release mechanical impurities and dust. To remove residual dust from the
docking pads use an Airduster [2]. Afterwards finalize the cleaning process by using a swab stick
wetted with Isopropanol (IPA) [3]. Do not blow on the communicator as an alternative to using the
Airduster.
