Delay Settings

If DolbyDigitalor DolbyProLogicIIisselected

asthe surroundmodefor aninput,youmay

needto adjustthe delaytime setting.Notethat

the delaytime is not adjustablefor anyother

modes.

Dueto the differentdistancesbetweenthe

listeningpositionforthe front-channelspeakers

andthe surroundspeakers,the amountof time

it takesforsoundto reachyourearsfromthe

front versussurroundspeakersdiffers.Youmay

compensatefor thisdifferencethroughthe use

ofthe delaysettingsto adjustthe timingfor the

specificspeakerplacementand acousticcondi-

tions inyourlisteningroomor hometheater.

Thefactorysettingisappropriatefor most

rooms,but someinstallationscreateanuncom-

Whenyouhavecompletedyourselectionforthe

remoteto movethecursorto CENTER.

to selectthe optionthat bestdescribesyour

systembasedonthe speakerdefinitionsshown

below.

WhenSMALL isselected,low-frequency

center-channelsoundsbelowlOOHzwill besent

onlyto thesubwooferoutput.Notethat if you

choosethisoptionandthereisnosubwoofer

connected,youwill not hearanylow-frequency

soundsfrom thecenter-channelspeaker.

WhenLARGE isselected,afull-rangeoutput

will be sentto the centerspeakeroutput,and

NOcenter-channelsignalwill besentto the

subwooferoutput.

NOTE:IfyouchooseLogic7 asthe surround

modefor the particularinput sourcefor which

youareconfiguringyourspeakers,the AVR220

will not makethe LARGEoption availablefor

the centerspeaker.Thisisdue to the require-

mentsof Logic7 processing,anddoesnot indi-

cateaproblemwith yourreceiver.

WhenNONE isselected,nosignalswill be

sentto the center-channeloutput.Thereceiver

will operateina "phantom" center-channel

modeandcenter-channelinformationwill

besentto the left andrightfront-channel

outputs.Whenonlyfront left and rightspeak-

ersareused,with nocenteror surroundspeak-

ers,VMAxisa goodalternativemode.

Whenyou havecompletedyourselectionfor

the centerchannel,pressthe • Button

onthe remoteto changethe cursorto

SURROUND.

Pressthe 4/• Buttons _ _ onthe remote

to selecttheoptionthatbestdescribesthe sur-

roundspeakersin yoursystembasedonthe

speakerdefinitionsshownonthispage.

WhenSMAL L isselected,low-frequency

surround-channelsoundsbelow lOOHzwill be

sentto the subwooferoutput only.Notethat if

youchoosethisoption andthereisnosub-

wooferconnected,youwill not hearany low-

frequencysoundsfrom the surroundspeakers.

WhenLARGE isselected,afull-rangeoutput

will besentto the surround-channeloutputs,

andNOsurround-channelsignalswill besent

to the subwooferoutput.

WhenN0 NE isselected,surround-sound

informationwill besplit betweenthe front left

andrightoutputs.Notethatfor optimalper-

formancewhenno surroundspeakersarein

use,the Dolby3Stereomodeshouldbe used

insteadof DolbyProLogicII.Ifonlyfront left

andrightspeakersareavailable,selectoneof

thetwo VMAx modesor "SurroundOff".

Whenyouhavecompletedyourselectionfor the

surroundchannel,pressthe • Button _ on

the remoteto movethecursorto SUBWOOFER.

Pressthe 4/• Buttons _ onthe

remoteto selectthe optionthat bestdescribes

yoursystem.

Thechoicesavailablefor the subwoofer

positionwill dependonthe settingsforthe

otherspeakers,particularlythe front left/right

positions.

Ifthe front left/right speakersaresetto

SMAL L, the subwooferwill automaticallybe

setto SUB, which isthe "on" position.

Ifthe front left/right speakersaresetto

LARGE,threeoptionsareavailable:

If nosubwooferisconnectedto the

onthe remotesothat NONE appearsin

the on-screenmenu.Whenthis optionis

selected,all bassinformationwill berouted

to the front left/right "main" speakers.

Ifa subwooferisconnectedto theAVR220,

youhavethe optionto havethe front

left/right "main" speakersreproducebass

frequenciesatall times,andhavethe sub-

wooferoperateonlywhenthe AVR220 is

beingusedwith adigital sourcethat con-

tainsadedicatedLow-FrequencyEffects,or

LFE,soundtrack.Thisallowsyouto useboth

yourmainand subwooferspeakersto take

advantageofthe specialbasscreatedfor

certainmovies.Pressthe _/• Buttons

( LFE ) appearsin the on-screenmenu.

Ifa subwooferisconnectedandyou wishto

useit for bassreproductionin conjunction

with the mainfront left/right speakers,

sothatSUB L/R+LFE appearsin
