4. INTENDED USE
The Bluetooth
®
adapter is used to display measurements taken by
the digital multimeter on a mobile device with Apple iOS or Android
operating system. A Bluetooth
®
connection and mobile app are
required to transmit and display/evaluate data.
The adapter is easy to attach to tting multimeters. Data is
transmitted from the multimeter to the adapter via a serial infrared
interface.
The following multimeter models are designed for attachment to
the adapter: Voltcraft
®
VC830 / VC850 / VC870 / VC880 / VC890
For safety and approval purposes (CE), you must not rebuild and/
or modify this product. If you use the product for purposes other
than those described above, the product may be damaged. In
addition, improper use can cause hazards such as short-circuiting,
re, electric shock etc. Read the instructions carefully and keep
them. Make this product available to third parties only together with
its operating instructions.
This product complies with the statutory national and European
requirements.

5. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Read the operating instructions carefully and
especially observe the safety information. If you
do not follow the safety instructions and
information on proper handling in these operating
instructions, we assume no liability for any
resulting personal injury or damage to property.
Such cases will invalidate the warranty/guarantee.
a) Persons / Product
The device is not a toy. Keep it out of the reach of children
and pets.
Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. These
may become dangerous playing material for children.
Protect the product from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight,
strong jolts, high humidity, moisture, ammable gases, vapours
and solvents.
Do not place the product under any mechanical stress.
It is intended for indoor use only. Do not use it outdoors.
Contact with moisture, e.g. in bathrooms, must be avoided
under all circumstances.
Please handle the product carefully. Jolts, impacts or a fall even
from a low height can damage the product.

If it is no longer possible to operate the product safely, take it
out of operation and protect it from any accidental use. Safe
operation can no longer be guaranteed if the product:
- is visibly damaged,
- is no longer working properly,
- has been stored for extended periods in poor ambient
conditions or
- has been subjected to any serious transport-related
stresses.
Also observe the safety and operating instructions of any other
devices which are connected to the product.
For installations in industrial facilities, follow the accident
prevention regulations for electrical systems and equipment
of the government safety organization or the corresponding
authority for your country.
Do not attach the device just after moving it from a cold to
a warm space. When this happens, condensation may form
which can cause damage to the device. Wait until the product
has adjusted to the ambient temperature.
b) Miscellaneous
Consult a professional if you require assistance with product
operation, safety or connection.
Maintenance work, adjustments and repairs may be carried out
only by a professional or at a specialist workshop.
If you have questions which remain unanswered by these
operating instructions, contact our technical support service or
other technical personnel.

6. NOTES ON (RECHARGEABLE)
BATTERIES
Correct polarity must be observed while inserting the
(rechargeable) batteries.
(Rechargeable) batteries should be removed from the device if
it is not used for a long period of time to avoid damage through
leaking. Leaking or damaged (rechargeable) batteries might
cause acid burns when in contact with skin, Therefore use
suitable protective gloves to handle corrupted (rechargeable)
batteries.
(Rechargeable) batteries must be kept out of reach of children.
Do not leave (rechargeable) batteries lying around, as there is
risk, that children or pets swallow them.
All (rechargeable) batteries should be replaced at the same
time. Mixing old and new (rechargeable) batteries in the device
can lead to (rechargeable) battery leakage and device damage.
(Rechargeable) batteries must not be dismantled, short-
circuited or thrown into re. Never recharge non-rechargeable
batteries. There is a risk of explosion!

8. BATTERIES
1. See Fig. 1.
2. Push the battery compartment lid (1) in the opposite direction
of the arrow and lift.
3. Insert two AAA batteries into the battery recesses, observing
correct polarity. Markings in the battery recesses indicate
correct polarity.
4. First, insert the locking clip on the battery compartment lid in
the opening on the adapter and then slide the lid on. Make
sure that the lid locks correctly.
Replace the batteries when the battery indicator lamp (2)
begins ashing.

9. INSTALLING THE ADAPTER
Do not forget to insert batteries before installing the
adapter.
Keep the infrared interface contacts on the adapter (6)
and multimeter clean and free of dust. Clean the
contacts with a lint- and dust-free cloth before attaching
the adapter.
1. See Fig. 2.
2. Turn over the multimeter and place it on a soft, protective
surface.
3. Slide the adapter all the way into the adapter attachment on
the multimeter.
4. Use a Phillips screwdriver to slightly tighten the Phillips screw (7).
Repeat these steps in reverse order to detach the adapter.

10. OPERATION
a) Important information regarding Bluetooth®
The transmission range is up to 10 meters in open spaces.
Please note that furniture, walls or electronic devices may
cause interference between the adapter and your mobile
device.
b) Installing the app
An app must be installed on your display device (mobile device)
in order to use the Bluetooth
®
function. The app is available for
download from the Apple App Store for iOS devices / Google Play
for Android devices.
1. Navigate to Apple App Store / Google Play.
2. Search for the app called „SMART BT MEASURE“.
3. Verify that your device meets the app requirements.
4. Download the app onto your mobile device and follow the
installation instructions.

c) Connection (pairing)
Before establishing a Bluetooth
®
connection, read the instructions
for Bluetooth
®
connections/data transmission in the app help
menu and in the user manual for your mobile device and digital
multimeter (if available).
Now establish a connection:
1. Turn on the digital multimeter.
2. Switch the digital multimeter into PC mode by pressing and
holding the REL/PC button on the multimeter several times
for approx. 2 seconds until the –PC or
symbol appears
in the display.
3. Slide the ON/OFF (4) switch to ON to turn the adapter on. The
battery indicator lamp (2) and LED indicator lamp LINK (3)
light up briey.
» The LED indicator lamp LINK ashes once (1x) in three
seconds.
» The adapter is now visible to mobile devices (broadcasting).
4. Create a new project/device in the app. Press the button
“CONNECT DMM” in the app.
5. The adapter shows up as a new device in the app. Select the
adapter.
» The LED indicator lamp LINK remains lit while pairing is in
progress.
6. On request, press and hold the PAIR button (5) for approx. 3
seconds to start pairing. Conrm the request in the app.
» The LED indicator lamp LINK goes out.

7. The model number of the digital multimeter is displayed in the
app. Conrm the device to conclude pairing.
8. Data can be transmitted when pairing has been successfully
concluded.
» The LED indicator lamp LINK ashes quickly.
d) Auto off
The adapter turns off automatically in the following circumstances:
Low battery.
No connection is established within 5 minutes of the adapter
being turned on.
No data is transmitted within 5 minutes of successful pairing.
Data transmission between adapter and mobile device is
interrupted for longer than 5 minutes.
To use the adapter again, slide the ON/OFF switch to OFF
and back to ON.
e) Ending data transmission
End data transmission by sliding the ON/OFF switch to OFF. The
adapter is now off.

11. MAINTENANCE AND CARE
The product does not require any maintenance, do not
disassemble it. Maintenance or repairs may be carried out by a
professional only.
Turn off the product and remove the batteries before cleaning.
Never submerge the product in water or other liquids.
Clean the exterior of the product using a clean, soft, dry cloth
only. You can easily remove dust using a clean, soft brush or a
vacuum cleaner.
Do not scratch the infrared contacts (6).
Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents or chemical
solutions as these may damage the housing causing
discoloration and/or malfunction.
12. DECLARATION OF CONFORMITY
(DOC)

13. DISPOSAL
a) Product
Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not
be disposed of in the household waste.
At the end of its service life, dispose of the product
according to the relevant statutory regulations.
Remove any inserted (rechargeable) batteries and dispose of
them separately from the product.
b) (Rechargeable) batteries
You as the end user are required by law (Battery Ordinance) to
return all used batteries/rechargeable batteries. Disposing of them
in the household waste is prohibited.
Contaminated (rechargeable) batteries are labelled
with this symbol to indicate that disposal in the domestic
waste is forbidden. The designations for the heavy
metals involved are: Cd = Cadmium, Hg = Mercury, Pb
= Lead (name on (rechargeable) batteries, e.g. below
the trash icon on the left).
Used (rechargeable) batteries can be returned to collection
points in your municipality, our stores or wherever (rechargeable)
batteries are sold.
You thus full your statutory obligations and contribute to the
protection of the environment.
