About Interplay | MAM Control Center
Starting with release 5, Interplay MAM systems are installed using the MAM Control Platform,
which consists of MAM Control Service and MAM Control Center.
The MAM Control Service must be installed on all Interplay MAM servers that are running the
Windows Server operating system. MAM Control Service is the local agent, responsible for the
deployment of files to the server, the execution of scripts on the server, and a number of
administrative tasks during runtime of the MAM system.
MAM Control Center is the central service for installation and configuration. Its GUI can be used by
administrators to install Interplay MAM Packages and Kits, and monitor Interplay MAM installation.
MAM Control Center is installed on one, dedicated Interplay server. It provides the following
features:
Working with Packages
Working with Servers
Working with Service Groups
Working with System Settings
Working with Jobs
Working with the Service Controller
11
Prerequisites for Using MAM Control Center
To use MAM Control Center you must be a member of an administrator group that has the
permission to use MAM Control Center (recommended: a domain user group
MAM_Administrators). The name of the group is set during installation of MAM Control Center.
For additional information, see the Interplay | MAM Installation Manual.
As an administrator you can review and assign group rights in the User Manager of the Interplay
MAM Administrator. For additional information, see the “Interplay | MAM User Manager User’s
Guide” that is shipped with the software.

Adapting the Display in Detail Views
In most MAM Control Center views, information is displayed in tables. You can adapt the displayed
columns in all views, except the Jobs and Service Groups views; you can sort the lists in all views.
The procedure for adapting and sorting is the same in all views.
To add or remove columns:
1. Click the arrow control in one of the headers of the list.
The Configure Display control opens and provides Sorting and Columns options.
2. Select the check box of the column you want to add, or deselect the check box of the column you
want to remove.
15
3. Click anywhere outside the window to save your settings.
To sort the list, do one of the following:
t Click the heading of the column by which you want to sort.
An arrow appears in the column. Each column sorts results sequentially, beginning with the
lowest number and the first letter alphabetically — and can be reversed.
t To reverse the sorting order, click the heading of the column again.
t Click the arrow control in the header column you want to sort and select Sort Ascending or Sort
Descending in the Configure Display control.
Displaying MAM Control Center Logs
MAM Control Center writes messages to a log file that is subject to log file rotation. The log file
rotation settings are defined in the web.config file, and are not intended to be changed.
When a new log file is created, the previous version is amended with a time stamp in its filename. All
log files are saved in the directory that was set during the installation of MAM Control Center.
To access MCC log files:
1. Click the Control Center Log button on the Home tab’s toolbar.
The MAM Control Center logs directory opens in a new browser tab.
2. Do one of the following:
t Click the ControlCenter.log link to open the current log file.
t Click one of the ControlCenter.<time stamp>.log links to open an older log file.
t (Option) Right-click the log file and download it using the browser’s context menu.
The log file is opened in the same browser tab.
3. Click the browser’s Navigate Back control to go back to the MAM Control Center logs directory.
4. (Option) Click the To Parent Directory link to access the log files of other Interplay MAM
services that are running on the same server as MAM Control Center. For additional information,
see “Working with Service Log Files” on page 73.
16
Downloading Files
MAM Control Center lets you download files included with installation packages even if the files are
used outside of MAM Control Center — for example, files that are to be installed on a third-party
system, such as presets for a transcoder, or a SQL script that can be executed during a maintenance
plan for the MAM_System database. The download directory is set automatically during the
installation of MAM Control Center.
To download files:
1. Click the Downloads button on the Home tab’s toolbar.
The MAM Control Center Download directory opens in a new browser tab.
2. Click the <dir> link to navigate to the respective directory.
3. (Option) Click the To Parent Directory link to go back to the parent directory.
4. Right-click the file to be downloaded and save it using the default Save As feature of your
browser.
Quitting MAM Control Center
When you are finished using MAM Control Center, quit the application.
To quit the application:
t Close the Internet browser.
MAM Control Center quits.
2 Working with Servers
The following topics provide information about the basic actions that you can perform when working
with the Servers view:
Information Displayed in the Servers View

Information Displayed in the Servers View
The Servers view provides information about the registered servers. Opening the Servers view shows
basic information of all servers added to your installation. Selecting a server in the Servers list
provides access to additional information about the server. You can sort the lists in the Servers pane
and add and remove columns.
18
To display server information:
1. Select a server in the Servers list.
The Server Details pane opens. It is divided into the Header Data area and the Services area.
2. (Option) Change the display in the Services area:
t Add columns to the Services area.
t Sort the columns in ascending or descending order.
For additional information, see “Adapting the Display in Detail Views” on page 14.
3. To refresh the information, do one of the following:
t Click the Refresh button on the Servers view toolbar to update the information in all areas of
the Servers view.
t Click the Refresh button on the Header Data area to update the information in the Header
Data area; for example, the status message.
t Click the Refresh button on the Services area to update the information in the Services area;
for example, the status of the individual services.
Adding a Server
Use the Servers view to add the servers on which the Interplay MAM packages are to be installed.
c
Each installation requires one MCS server and at least one MAM server. These servers must be
added before packages can be installed. All added servers must be running and accessible
through the network.
To add a server:
1. Click Servers on the Home tab’s Views pane.
The Servers view opens.
Area Description
1 Servers list Lists the Display Name and Status (online, offline, or error) of all servers added to
your installation.
The Health column indicates the status of the monitored partitions of the server (Not
available for MCS servers):
Good: The status of all monitored server partitions is “good.”
Warning: The status of at least one monitored server partition is “warning.”
Error: The status of at least one monitored server partition is “error.”
See also “Displaying Server Details” on page 20.
2 Header Data area Provides information about the host name, server type, online status, a status message
(if available), and a Refresh button.
3 Services area Provides information about the services installed on the selected server, grouped by
pools. The Services area by default shows the ID, Version, and Status columns
(possible states are: Unknown, Stopped, Running, Error, Suspended, Starting,
Stopping, Disabled). It also provides a Refresh button.
19
2. Click the Add button on the Servers view toolbar.
The Add Server dialog opens.
3. Select the server type from the Type list:
t MAM: A server running MAM services.
To use a server of type “MAM”, MAM Control Service must be installed on that server, and
the server cannot be registered with another MAM.
t MCS: A server running the MediaCentral Platform Service (“playback server”).
To use a server of type “MCS”, MediaCentral Platform Service must be installed on that
server so that the player for playback and Video Analysis is available in MAM.
4. (Option) Enter a display name for the server in the Display name box. If you do not provide a
Display name, the Host name is used as display name.
5. Enter the TCP host name of the server in the Host Name box. The host name you type is
automatically set in the Base URL that shows the combined URL used to connect to MAM
Control Service on the MAM server, or to the MediaCentral Platform Service on the MCS server.
6. Provide the Connection Details (only for MAM server type).
t Path: The URL path of MAM Control Service (MAM server type).
t Port: The TCP port of MAM Control Service (MAM server type).
t Protocol: The protocol used to connect to MAM Control Server (MAM server type).
n
Avid recommends keeping the default Connections Details.
For a MAM server: Path “ControlService,” Port “9911,” and Protocol “HTTPS.”
For an MCS server: Protocol “HTTP.”
7. Click OK to add the server.
MAM Control Center registers the server and shows it in the Servers pane. A message is
displayed if there is an error; for example, the server is already registered with another MAM, or
the entered Base URL is not correct.
20
Displaying Server Details
