Thebaghasbeenredesignedtobecomfortableanduseful(padded
hipbelt,ergonomicandadjustableshoulderstraps).Ithasalarge
volumethatwillallowyoutostoreallyourkit,whilststillbeing

Thebrakelinelengthshavebeensetcarefullyduringtesting.We feel
itisbettertohaveslightlylongbrakelinesandtoflywithawrap
(oneturnoflinearoundthehand).However,ifyoudochooseto
adjustthem,pleasebearin mindthe following:
Ensurebothmainbrakelinesareof equallength.
Ifabrakehandlehasbeenremoved,checkthatitslineisstill
routedthroughthepulleywhenitisreplaced.
Whenthebrakehandlesarereleasedinflight,thebrakelines
shouldbeslack.Theremustbeasubstantial"bow"inthemto
guaranteenodeformationofthetrailingedge.
Theremustbeaminimumof10cmof freeplaybeforethebrakes
begintodeformthetrailingedge.Thispreventsthetrailingedge
frombeingdeformedwhenusingthespeedsystem.
TheAddicthasbeendesignedwith4risers.Eachriseriscoveredwith
colouredwebbing,thisallowsthemtobeeasilyidentified.
TheA'sareRED.YouwillnoticethattheA'saresplitintwoparts.

Tosetupanacceleratorontheground,askafriendtopullyourrisers
intotheirin-flightpositionwhileyousitinyourharness.Nowadjust
thelengthofthelinesothatthemainbarsitsjustbeneathyourseat.
Youshouldnowbeabletohookyourheelintothesecondary(lower)
loopoftheaccelerator.
Theaccelerator mustbeslack enoughto ensurethatthefrontrisers
arenotpulleddowninnormalflight,butnotsolongthatitis
impossibletousethe fullspeedrangeoftheAddict.
Extendingthesecondary(lower)loopoftheacceleratorfullywilltake
theAddictthroughapproximatelyhalfitsacceleratedspeedrange.
Shouldyouneedevenmorespeedyoushouldhookyourfeetonto
theupperbar,whichyoucanthenextenduntilthepulleysonthe
riserstouch.
Oncesetup,testthefullrangeoftheacceleratorincalmflying
conditions:ensurethatbothrisersarepulledevenlyduring
operation.Fine-tuningcanbecompletedwhenyouarebackonthe
ground.
Itwillbeinyourharnessthatyouwillenjoyflying...Therefore,we
recommendyouspendthetimenecessarytoadjustyourharness's

Ifyouwantbetterspeed,precisehandling,ifyougenerallyflyin
mountainsand/orinstrongconditions, youshouldchosetoflyinthe
toppartoftheweightrange.
Ifyouwantabettersinkrate,if yougenerally flyin flatlandsand/or
inweakconditions,youmaychoosetoflyinthebottompartofthe
weightrange.Remember,youcanalwaysaddballastforwhen
conditionsarestronger.
BASICFLIGHTTECHNIQUES
Tofamiliarizeyourselfwiththeglideritisagoodideatoperform
practiceinflationsandgroundhandling.Forpilotsalready
accustomedtoperformancewingsyoushouldhavenodifficulties
flyingtheAddictforthefirsttimeinsuitableconditionsthatyou
wouldnormallyflyin.Forthosepilotsmovingupalevel(egfrom a
DHV1-2)thenwerecommendthatfirstflightsshouldbeinsmooth
conditionsonafamiliarsiteandwithyournormalharnesstoget
accustomedtoyournewwing.
LayouttheAddictonitstopsurfaceinapronouncedarc,withthe
centreofthewinghigherthanthetips.Layoutthelinesonesideat
atime.Holduptherisersandstartingwiththebrakelines,pullall
linesclear.RepeatwiththeD,C,BandAlines,layingthechecked
linesontopofthepreviousset,andmakingsurenolinesare
tangled,knottedorsnagged.Mirrortheprocessontheotherside.

Whilstinflating yourwing, youshouldholdbothoftheArisers(main
AandbabyA)oneachside.Onceclippedin,andyouhavegone
throughthetake-offchecklist(above),standcentraltothewingto
ensureanevenandprogressiveinflation.
Whenthewindisfavourable,moveforwardpositively:yourlines
shouldbecometightwithinoneortwosteps.TheAddictwill
immediately starttoinflate.Youshouldmaintainaconstantpressure
ontherisersuntilthewingisoverhead.
Don'tpulldownorpushtherisers forward excessively,ortheleading
edgewilldeformandpossiblycollapsemakingtaking-offmore
difficultandpotentiallydangerous.
Movesmoothlythroughouttheentirelaunch,thereisnoneedtorush
orsnatchatit.Youshouldhaveplentyoftimetolookupandcheck
yourcanopybeforecommittingyourself.
OnceyouarehappythattheAddictisinflatedcorrectly,accelerate
smoothlyoffthelaunch.
LayoutyourAddictasyouwouldfortheforwardlaunch.However,
thistimeturntofacethewing,passingone entiresetofrisersover
yourheadasyouturn.NowyoucanpulltheAddictbyitsA-risers.
Oncethewingisoverhead,brakeitgently,turnandlaunch.
Instrongerwinds,bepreparedtotakea fewstepstowardstheglider
asitinflates.Thiswilltakesomeoftheenergyoutofthegliderand
itwillbelesslikelytooverflyyou.Thisreverse-launchtechniquecan
beusedinsurprisinglylightwindstoo.
Practicegroundhandlingalot!It'sgreatfun,andwillgiveyou a
muchbetterfeelforyourAddict'sflightcharacteristics.Itwillalso
improveyouroverallenjoymentofflyingbymakingyourlaunches
easier.

TheAddictisahighaspectratio,performance-orientedparaglider
andisintendedforexperiencedpilotswhohaveagoodfeeland
understandingofparaglidersandactive flying.
YouwillnoticethegoodfeelingofliftandspeedoftheAddict;on
glidesitremainssolidandwellpressuredeventhroughthe
acceleratedspeedrangeasithasa veryhighresistancetocollapses.
ThehandlingcharacteristicsoftheAddictaretrulyamazing.Wehave
workedalotontuningthewingsothatitturnstightlybutalso
efficiently,astheabilitytoclimbinaturnisveryimportantforXC
andthermalflying.
TogetthemostoutofyourAddictweadviseyoutoconsiderthe
followinginformation.
Flyingat'trimspeed' (hands-up),theAddictwillachieveits'best
glide'speedfornormalair.Youshould flyatthisspeedwhengliding
downwindorwhentheairisnot excessivelysinking.
Forbetterpenetrationinheadwindsandimprovedglideperformance
insinkingair,crosswindsorheadwinds,youshouldflyfasterthan
trimspeedbyusingtheacceleratorsystem. Usinguptohalfbardoes
notdegradetheglideangleorstabilitysignificantlyandwillimprove
yourflyingperformance,asyouwillreachthenextthermalfaster
andhigher.AtfullspeedtheAddictisstable;howeverwerecommend
thatyoudonotflyat fullspeedclosetothegroundorinturbulence.
Byapplyingthebrakesapproximately30cm,theAddictwillachieve
itsminimum-sinkrate;thisisthespeedforbestclimbandisthe
speedtouseforthermallingandridgesoaring.
TofamiliarizeyourselfwiththeAddictyourfirstturnsshouldbe
gradualandprogressive.
TomakeefficientandcoordinatedturnswiththeAddictfirstlookin
thedirectionyouwanttogo,thenleanintoit.Yourfirstinputfor
directionalchangeshouldbeweight-shift,followedbythesmooth
applicationofthebrakeuntilthedesiredbankangleisachieved.To
regulatethespeedandradiusoftheturn,coordinateyourweight
shiftandusetheouterbrake.
Tominimizethelikelihoodofsufferingcollapsesinturbulent
conditions,itis essentialtouseactiveflying.
Allgoodpilotsreacttothefeedbackthegliderssendthem,andare
constantlyadjustingtheirspeedandpitchtomatchthemovements
oftheair.Thekeyelementsofactiveflyingarepitchcontroland
pressurecontrol:
Asthegliderpitchesinfrontofyou,usethebrakestoslowitdown.
Equally,asthegliderdropsbehind you,releasethebrakestoallowit
tospeedup.
Flyingwithabitofbrakeapplied(approx.20cm)willgiveyou
feedback fromthewing. Inturbulentconditionstheinternalpressure
ofthewingcanchangeandyoucan feelthisthroughthebrakes.The
aimisto maintainaconstantpressurethroughthebrakes.If youfeel
alossinpressureapplythebrakesuntilnormalpressureisresumed
thenraisehandsbacktooriginalposition(thismustbedonequickly).
Avoidflyingwithcontinuousamountsofbrakeinroughairasyou
couldinadvertentlystallthewing.Alwaysconsideryourairspeed.
Thesemovementscanbesymmetricorasymmetric;youmayhave
toapplybothbrakesorjustone.Thesesubtleadjustmentswillkeep
thegliderflyingsmoothlyanddirectlyaboveyouanddramatically
reducethechancesofacollapse.Theseareskillsthatarebestlearnt
byplayingwiththegliderontheground!
TheAddictshowsnounusuallandingcharacteristicsbutas a
reminder,herearesometips.
Alwayssetupyourlandingearly,giveyourselfplentyofoptions
andasafe marginfor error.
Oncebelow30metresavoidturningtightlyasthegliderwillhave
todivetoacceleratebacktonormalflight.Ifyouareatlow
altitude,orifyouhitsink,thiscouldmeanyouhittheground
harderthannecessary.
Instead,allowthegliderto flyat fullspeed for your finaldescent
until youarearound1 metreabovetheground.Applythebrakes
slowlyandprogressivelytoslowthegliderdownuntiltheglider
stallsandyouareabletostepontotheground.
Becarefulnottoflaretoohardatfullspeedastheglidermight
climbagainbeforestalling.Ifthegliderdoesbegintoclimb,ease
offthebrakesuntilitstopsclimbing-butdon'tputyourhands
rightup-thenflareagain,butmoregentlythistime.Keepthe
brakesatmidspeed,standup,bereadytorunandmakesure
youbrake fullyasyouarriveontheground.
Leanforwardoutofyourharnessbeforetheactuallanding
(especiallyifit'sturbulent),withyourweightleaningforward
againstthecheststrap,andmakesureyourlegsarereadyfor
thelandingandapossiblePLF.
Choosetheappropriateapproachstyleinfunctionofthelanding
areaandtheconditions.
Alwayslandheadingintowind!
Inlightwindsyouneedastrong,longandprogressiveflareto
bleedoffallyourexcessgroundspeed.Instrongwindsyour
forwardspeedisalreadylowso youareflaringtosoftenthe In
strongwindsyouneedtoturntowardsthegliderthesecondyour
feettouchtheground.Oncefacingthewingpullsmoothlyand
symmetricallydownonthebrakestostallthewing. Iftheglider
pullsyou,runtowardit.
Ifthewindisverystrong,andyoufeelyoumightbedragged,
stallthegliderwiththeCrisers.ThisstallstheAddictinavery
quickandcontrollablewayandwilldragyoulessthanifyouuse
thebrakes.
Spreadthegliderflatonitstopsurface,thenlaythelinesontop.
Therisersshouldbelaidontheground,atthecentreofthe
glider,nearthetrailing edge.
Takeawingtipandfolditintothecentreofthewing.Repeat
thisuntilthegliderisfoldedupandapprox.60cm'swide.
Dothesametotheothersideoftheglider.Alwaysmakesure
thattheleadingedgeiskeptinonestraightline,asitis
importantnottobadlycreasethereinforcingfabricsinthe
leadingedge.
Don'tfoldtheglideralongthesamelines everytime;anytypeof
foldingreducesthestrengthofthe fabricovertime.
Pushoutanyremainingairby flatteningthe foldedwing fromthe
trailingedgetotheleading edge.
Foldtheglidersothatthebundleisapproximatelythesizeand
shapeoftheOZONErucksack.Neverrollthewingupasthis
introducesunnecessarystressesintothefabric.
AlwayspackyourAddictaslooselyasyoucan,aseveryfold
weakenstheclothonanyparaglider.
Finally,wraptheglidertiearoundthebundleandputitinthe
stuffsack.
Packingyourgliderusingtheconcertinamethod,keepingthe
mylarreinforcementsflat mayprolongthelifeyourglider.
