Fitting to the tractor
The tractor must be of a suitable size, adhere to the local laws. The minimum kW/HP are shown
above. When operating on hilly ground or operating with heavy crops a bigger tractor is recommend-
ed.
Machines with swivel hitch: Couple the drawbar to the lift arms of the tractor. The lift arms must be equipped with
stabilizing chains.
Machines with wide angle shaft: Couple the drawbar to the drawbar of the tractor. The drawbar must be fitted
with a clevis and should be longitudinally adjustable, - see page 33 top.
Dimensions drawing, page 6:
Models 4024 - 4028 - 4032 - 4036: The position of the towing eye for machines with wide-angle hitch is shown by
A and B. The position of the towing eye for machines with swivel hitch is shown by C and D.
Models 4028 C - 4032 C - 4036 C: The position of the towing eye is shown by E, F and G.

Machine identification
The machine number and manufacturer can be found on the metal plate A.
Immediately after delivery of the machine the machine number and year of delivery
must be registered in the following scheme. Please quote this number on all service
matters.
The machine is marked CE, shown at B. This marking with appurtenant EU
statement of agreement means that the machine complies with substantial health and
safety demands, and that it is in accordance with the directives 89/392/EEC and
additional directives.

Safety
1 Any operator, service man and owner must be familiar with the warning instructions for the
machine in this manual, before operations commence.
Always work carefully with agricultural machinery. Read through and observe the safety instructions
in this manual. Safety is your responsibility.
Pay particular attention to this symbol. It means that there could be a serious
hazard. It emphasises precautions which have to be complied with in order to prevent
accidents.
This symbol can be found throughout this manual and on the warning signs on the
machine. They are for your safety and should be observed at all times.
General safety instructions
2 Be careful when other people or animals are close by! Never start up the machine when people
or animals are close or on the machine or tractor. Never stand between the tractor wheels and
the machine.
Adhere to the local laws regarding children's minimum working age with agricultural machinery.
3 Use of the machine. The machine must only be used for harvest of common grass crops. The
machine must not be used for harvest of maize.
4 Use personal protection devices. Do not wear loose clothing which might catch in any of the
moving parts. In dusty conditions a suitable mask to EN 149 must be used.
Take care of excessive sound level. Certain tractor/implement combinations, dependant on operat-
ing conditions, may generate a noise level in excess of 85 dB at the operators ear, even in a 'Q' cab.
In these circumstances ear defenders must be worn. Keep cab windows and doors CLOSED at
all times to reduce noise level.
5 The machine must only be coupled to a correctly sized tractor. No other machines or implements
must be coupled. The relationship between tractor weight and machine weight must be correct.
Local regulations governing this relationship must be observed.
Make sure that the tractor has the correct P.T.O. A machine intended for 540 r.p.m. P.T.O. input
speed must never be coupled to a tractor with 1000 r.p.m. P.T.O. output speed.
6 Coupling of tractor and machine must be carried out as laid down in the instructions. All drawbar
pins must have locking split pins. Observe all local laws regarding road transport, - please note
that some countries require the use of safety chains.
7 Work in a safe way. The tractor engine must ALWAYS be stopped and the ignition key removed
before carrying out repairs, cleaning, lubricating or maintaining the machine.
12
13
1 Safety guards. Make sure that ALL GUARDS are in good order and fitted correctly. Do not
attempt to start the machine before ensuring this.
Pay particular attention to the plastic guards of the P.T.O. shaft. If damaged they must be
replaced. The chain locks of the guards MUST always be fitted on a suitable place on the tractor
and the machine to prevent the outer plastic guards turning around.
2 Hydraulics. Be very careful when dealing with hydraulics. Use eye protection and gloves. Escap-
ing hydraulic oil under pressure might penetrate into the skin and cause serious infection. See a
doctor if you have been exposed to injury.
Be watchful - damaged hydraulic hoses must be replaced immediately. Do never use sealing tape
or similar to repair the hoses. The hoses must be securely fixed. All hydraulic hoses of the
machine should be replaced at least every 4 years.
3 Remember when uncoupling, and when leaving tractor/machine. When uncoupling, all
hydraulic functions must be in neutral position. The machine must be lowered to the ground and
be safely secured. Place backstop at the wheels of the machine. Never allow children to play or
even stay near agricultural machinery.
4 Drive safely. Beware of your responsibility, - carelessness or slovenliness can cause serious injury
or death.
When the machine is in operation: Pay attention to the fact that models 4024 - 4028 in hilly
ground conditions can be unstable in raised position. This can be abated by fitting a balancing
weight in the left hand side (optional equipment, - see page 43).
Before transporting on public roads: Always check that wheel-fixing bolts are tightened, that
the coupling is in order, and that hydraulic systems and pawls are locked, see the manual of the
machine. Drive carefully. Reduce speed when turning and driving on uneven ground, - take care
that machine is not swinging and becoming unstable.
Be aware of the danger of overturning when working on slopes or soft ground.
The machine must not be used in situations that can make the tractor unstable.
5 Lighting. It is the responsibility of the owner/operator to provide correct lamps and reflectors on
the machine, when it is being transported on public roads during lighting-up time. Observe the
local laws.
6 Safety equipment. Always carry first aid equipment on the tractor. Also observe the local legislation
concerning fire extinguishers. When working with hay or straw a fire extinguisher must be available
at all times.
7 Spare parts. For safety reasons use only original spare parts. If injury occurs when using non-
original spare parts the Taarup warranty is invalidated.
8 Maintenance. Take care that the machine is properly maintained and kept in good safe working
condition. Never change the technical constructions of the machine.

Supplemental safety instructions
1 - 2 The machine is equipped with a WARNING decalls. If the decalls are damaged they must
be replaced, - order number for a complete set of decalls is 68.886.000.
In the following the placing of the warning decalls are shown and details of the danger.
