Digital Mova
NTT DoCoMo Digital 800MHz Phone
Thank you for purchasing the "Digital Mova ."
This user's manual consists of four volumes: "Before Use", "Phone Features", "i-mode",
and "Digital Mova Maintenance."
Please read this manual carefully before and during use, for effective operations of the
Digital Mova
.
The Digital Mova
is a capable partner. To prolong its life, handle it carefully by
following the instructions given in this manual.
Before using the Digital Mova
The Digital Mova is a mobile phone operating on radio frequencies, and cannot be used
in places where radio waves don't reach, such as inside tunnels, underground or in
buildings. It also may not be used in high-rise buildings though the radio waves are not
blocked. In such case you may also experience interruption of calls even when the radio
waves are strong enough with the three antennas on the screen.
Use the phone with consideration to others to avoid disturbing other people when in public.
Since the Digital Mova operates on radio frequencies for telecommunications, an
unauthorized third party can intercept the calls. However, the Digital Mova uses a digital
scrambler, so an unauthorized third party will only hear noise when tuning into your call.
The Digital Mova converts your voice into digital signals and sends them to the other
party. However, the sent signals may not be converted correctly to the other party in
places where the radio waves are weak.
It is possible to lose your data in the Digital Mova by accident or failure. We recommend
that you back up your important data. DoCoMo will not be held responsible for any lost
data registered in the phone.
The user hereby agrees that the user shall be solely responsible for the result of the use
of SSL. Neither DoCoMo nor the certifier as listed herein makes any representation and
warranty as for the security in the use of SSL. In the event that the user shall sustain
damage or loss due to the use of SSL, neither DoCoMo nor the certifier shall be
responsible for any such damage or loss.
Certifier: VeriSign Japan K.K., Baltimore Technologies Co., Ltd.

Handling the phone near electronic medical equipment
The following descriptions are based on the guidelines produced at the Electromagnetic Compatibility
Conference, Japan (April 1997), regarding the protection of electronic medical equipment from radio
waves emitted by mobile phone units.
If you have a heart pacemaker implanted,
keep the Digital Mova (transmission
power 0.8W) more than 22 cm away from
the heart pacemaker, or keep the PDA
(car phone) and shoulder phone
(transmission power 2.0W) more than 30
cm away from the heart pacemaker when
you use or carry it.
The radio waves may affect operation of the heart
pacemaker.
Turn off the power of the Digital Mova in
a crowded place such as in a train
because there may be a person who has
a pacemaker.
The radio waves may affect operation of the heart
pacemaker.
Observe the following in a health-care
facility.
•
Do not bring the Digital Mova in the operating room,
ICU or CCU.
•
Turn off the power of the Digital Mova in the facility.
•
Even when you are in the lobby of a hospital, make a
point to turn OFF the Digital Mova if there is any
medical electric equipment in the vicinity.
•
Follow the instructions of each medical facility in
terms of respective restrictions on use of mobile
phones and entry on premises carrying mobile
phones.
Consult your medical electric equipment
distributor/manufacturer for radio
frequency specifications when using
medical electric equipments other than
the implanted heart pacemaker outside a
medical facility, such as when at home.

Handling Precautions
Common precautions
Do not get the Digital Mova, Battery pack or adaptor (including charger) wet because they are not
water-proof. Do not use it in a bath, and so on, humid places or places that may be easy to get wet
by rain. When you put the phone close to your body, your sweat may cause corrosion inside the
phone, resulting in trouble. Note that the warranty may not cover repairs of malfunctions if we
conclude that the result of investigation is due to getting your mobile phone wet.
Do not put the Digital Mova in a place where it receives too much force. If you put the phone in a bag
packed with various goods or if you sit down with the phone in your pocket, the indicator or internal
circuits may be damaged or broken. In this case the warranty will be voided.
When cleaning, wipe the phone with a dry and soft cloth.
If you use a wet cloth, trouble may be caused. If you use benzene, thinner, alcohol or detergent,
printed characters may be erased or the color may be wiped off.
Clean the terminals with a dry swab. If the terminals are dirty, the contact is poor and charging may
be disabled.
Do not put the phone near the air vent. Doing so may cause condensation due to sudden change in
temperature, resulting in internal corrosion.
Precautions about the Digital Mova
Use the phone in a place with the temperature between 5°C and 35°C, the humidity between 35%
and 85 %. Do not use or store it in a place with an extremely high or low temperature.
If you use the phone near a ground home/office phone, TV or radio, it may be adversely affected.
Use in a place away from them.
Do not put the Digital Mova in a place easy to get dirty.
Precautions about the battery pack
Do not dispose of the unnecessary battery pack together with other daily wastes. Paste vinyl tape to the
terminals for insulation and bring it to us or dispose of according to the local rules that request batteries to
be separated.
Precautions about the adaptor (including charger)
Do not charge the battery in the following places.
•
The ambient temperature is lower than 5°C or more than 35°C.
•
With humidity, much dirt or vibrations (malfunctions may be caused).
•
Near a radio (Noises of the radio may interfere with the phone).
When you do not use the AC adaptor, unplug from the power outlet and store the power cord in the
AC adaptor main unit.
When you do not use the DC adaptor or car adaptor, unplug from the cigar lighter socket to prevent
the car battery from draining.

About the Manual
Structure of the manual
Refer to "Phone Features" for the operations of the phone, and "i-mode" for the operations relating to the
i-mode.
In addition to this manual, there comes "

Screens for description in the manual differ in fonts or hue from the actual ones.
The features of the Digital Mova screen
•
Though the Digital Mova screen features a high brightness and resolution screen, an after-image
may be caused if the same image is displayed for a long time.
To prevent this and to save the power consumption, the screen is turned off when no operation is
made for a predetermined period. When this function is activated, the Sleep mode lamp flashes in
green. While the lamp is flashing, the power is kept on.
•
The Digital Mova screen is designed with extremely advanced technology. There may be some
dots unlit and other dots constantly lit, however, this is expected and not due to malfunction or
troubleshooting.
