Before Using the Product
This chapter provides information you should know before using the product.
About the
Module
The ATLF-8(FIT)GY is a low-pass filter module dedicated to an insulated analog input module
[ADI12-8(FIT)GY].
The ATLF-8(FIT)GY reduces noise included in external signals.
Please read this manual carefully to configure the system, such as connecting it to external devices.
Features
- Serving as a passive filter which requires no power supply.
- Equipped with an interface connector pin-compatible with the ADI12-8(FIT)GY, allowing
connection to an external device in the same way as the ADI12-8(FIT)GY.
- Capable of being connected easily to the ADI12-8(FIT)GY placed beside only by plugging the
dedicated cable.
- The system incorporates a screwless connector plug that allows you to easily attach and detach
wires without using any special tools.
- Like other F&eIT series products, the module has a 35mm DIN rail mounting mechanism as
standard. A connection to a controller module can be effected on a lateral, stack basis in a unique
configuration, which permits a simple, smart system configuration without the need for a backplane
board.

Connecting an analog input signal
Example of connecting a differential input
This section gives examples of connections using a flat cable and a shielded cable.
The following figure shows an example of flat cable connection.
For each analog input channel, connect the "+" input to the signal and connect the "-" input to the signal
source ground. Also connect the analog ground on the ATLF-8(FIT)GY to the signal source ground.

Figure 3.3. Differential Input Connection (Flat Cable)
The following figure shows an example of 2-wire shielded cable connection. Use shielded cable if the
distance between the signal source and the ATLF-8(FIT)GY is long or if you want to provide better
protection from noise. For each analog input channel, connect the "+" input to the signal and connect
the "-" input to the signal source ground. Also connect the analog ground on the ATLF-8(FIT)GY and
the signal source ground to the shielding.

CAUTION
- Connecting the ATLF-8(FIT)GY to the ADI12-8(FIT)GY may cause an error in data converted by
the ADI12-8(FIT)GY.
- When the ADI12-8(FIT)GY inputs two or more signals, crosstalk may occur between the channels.
- A long connection cable may prevent the module from performing analog input correctly. The
connection cable should be as short as possible.
- If the connection cable is affected by noise, the analog input can be inaccurate. Route the
connection cable apart from noise sources.
- The analog signal input to the [+] and [-] inputs must not exceed the maximum input voltage with
reference to the analog ground of the ATLF-8(FIT)GY. Exceeding the input voltage can damage
the module.
- Converted data is undefined when either of the [+] and [-] input terminals is left unconnected.
Connect both of the [+] and [-] input terminals of the channel not connected to the signal source to
the analog ground.
3 Connecting to an External Device
12 ATLF-8(FIT)GY
Example of connecting a current input
To measure a current using the ATLF-8(FIT)GY, you need to convert the current into a voltage using a
resistor.
By connecting a 250
resistor between the [+] and [-] inputs, the ATLF-8(FIT)GY can measure
currents from a 0-20 mA current output device in a voltage input range from 0 to 5 volts. Note that, if
the inserted resistor has a considerable error, it adversely affects converted data, preventing accurate
measurement. You should therefore use a precision resistor (
±
0.1 %) on the connector side.
Note also that, when there are more than one current source, no potential difference must exist between
their respective GND points.
This is because the input channels of the ATLF-8(FIT)GY are not insulated from each other and share
the same analog ground. If an affecting potential difference exists between the channels, insert an
insulator such as an insulating transducer between the channels.
