5.1. Small flat head screwdriver

5.2. 3/4" deep socket (or extension)

5.3. 7/8” socket

5.4. Hard rubber mallet

5.5. White Lithium grease (or equivalent)

5.6. Liquid thread lock

5.7. Torque wrench

5.8. Nylon socket (BW Part #1963479)

8. PROCEDURE

8.1. Using the small flat head screwdriver, remove the set screw on

the side of the steering wheel hub.

8.2. Remove the cap from the hub.

8.3. Using the 3/4” socket, loosen the nut from the center shaft.

DO NOT remove the nut completely.

8.4. Reverse the nut off the shaft until it

protrudes slightly above the end of

the shaft.

8.4.1. While bracing your knee

under the steering wheel and

pulling the top of the wheel

toward yourself, strike the nut

with the mallet until the wheel

releases from the shaft (3 to 4 sharp blows).

8.4.2. Remove the steering wheel.

NOTE: Take care not to lose the shaft “key”.

8.5. Before installing the new steering wheel,

insert the “key” into the slot in the shaft.

8.5.1. Apply a generous amount of white

lithium grease (or comparable) to

the shaft and “key”.

8.5.2. Line up the notch in the steering wheel hub with the shaft

“key” and seat the steering wheel firmly onto the shaft.

HINT: To assist in seating the steering wheel, angle the “key” so that the notch

on the wheel hub engages the “key” on an angle.

8.6. Place the nylon washer (supplied) on the shaft.

8.7. Place a small amount of liquid thread lock on the threads.

8.8. Place the stainless steel nut on the steering shaft and hand

tighten.

8.9. Place the nylon socket (not supplied) on the wheel nut.

NOTE: The nylon socket is not provided with your

kit but can be ordered from Boston Whaler

(BW Part #1963479).

8.10. Using the torque wrench and the 7/8” socket, tighten the

nut to 25 ft./lbs.

NOTE: An alternative method for tightening the wheel nut

if a nylon socket is not available, is to wrap the nut

with several layers of masking tape, to protect the

surface,and use an adjustable wrench to tighten

the nut.
