The world's first rangefinder digital camera
You’re serious about photography. We’re
passionate about image quality. Scanning,
printing and projection – digital image
processing is at the heart of Epson. It’s
why we continue to push the boundaries
of creative possibilities.
The Epson Rangefinder R-D1, the world’s
first rangefinder digital camera, is where
photographic tradition meets the digital
culture. It is a camera to rekindle your
love of photography.
Craftsmanship
The Epson Rangefinder R-D1 reflects the
exquisite craftsmanship of a world-class
collaboration. The optical expertise of
Cosina and the peerless engineering of
the Seiko Epson Corporation have been
brought together to create a camera in
which attention to detail and image quality
are paramount. The Epson Rangefinder
R-D1 combines digital technology with
classic rangefinder design to meet the
demands of today’s most discerning
photographers.
Respect for tradition
Epson know that a camera should be an
instinctive tool, so the Epson Rangefinder
R-D1 is designed to be instantly familiar.
With manual reset of the mechanical
shutter’s ‘film winder’ and all the creative
control of a fully manual camera, the
Epson Rangefinder R-D1 supports most*
existing M and L mount lenses. The
whole rangefinder experience is there:
immediate, unobtrusive and quiet.
Pure photography
Epson have taken the best of digital
technology and seamlessly integrated it
into the rangefinder tradition. The all-
metal Epson Rangefinder R-D1 body
incorporates a bright 1.0x viewfinder, so
you can compose your image free of
distortion or dimming, even in low light.
ISO settings range from 200 to 1600,
with shutter speeds from 1 second to
1/2000 second.
The camera incorporates full manual and
aperture priority auto exposure modes,
analogue dials and a hot shoe with X-
Sync for external flash. Images can be
viewed on a bright 2 inch LCD screen.
You can switch between colour and
monochrome exposures, change ISO
settings shot-by-shot, apply tints, and
change saturation instantly to match
your photographic style and needs. This
camera gives a feeling of creative power
and control.
Digital imaging excellence
Epson digital image processing
technology works in harmony with the
lens to realise your photographic intent.
The Epson Rangefinder R-D1
incorporates a large CCD image sensor
to accurately record light information
from the lens.
Epson Digital Image ARTist (EDIART) is
the unique image processing technology
that takes optical information from the
camera lens to the CCD and processes
it into an image file.
A RAW image file can be further
processed and developed with the
supplied PhotoRAW “digital darkroom”
software, which is ideal for working on
images captured in challenging lighting
conditions – exposure compensation,
colour temperature adjustment and even
black and white images with filter
variations can all be easily applied before
final image development.
