In the event of signs of damage, for example if there is a smell
of burning, unplug the machine immediately from the mains
supply and contact JURA service.

If the mains cable of this machine is damaged, it must
be repaired either directly by JURA or by an authorised JURA
service centre.

Make sure that the GIGA and the mains cable are not located
close to hot surfaces.
U

does not rub against sharp edges.

Never open and repair the machine yourself. Do not modif y
the machine in any way that is not described in these instruc-
tions for use. The machine contains live parts. If opened, there
is a danger of potentially fatal injury. Repairs may only be car-
ried out by authorised JURA service centres, using original
spare par t s and accessories.

power supply, first switch off the GIGA using the On/Off but-
ton and then at the power switch. Only then should you
remove the mains plug from the power socket.

Never allow t he mains cable to loosely hang down. The mains
cable could pose a t ripping hazard or become damaged.

Do not immerse the GIGA, mains cable or connect ions in

operation. Always wipe the GIGA with a damp cloth rather
than a wet one, and protect it from prolonged exposure to

Only connect t he machine t o t he mains volt age in accordance
with the information on the rating plate. The rating plate is
located on the underside of your GIGA. Further technical data
is provided in these instructions for use (see Chapter 9 ‘Tech-
nical data).
U

products that are not explicitly recommended by JURA could
damage the GIGA.

Do not use any coffee beans treated with additives or caramel-
ised coffee beans.

When setting up your GIGA, please not e t he following:

Ch oo s e a sp o t f o r y our GIGA w h i c h p r o t e c t s t h e m a ch i n e
against overheat ing. Ensure t hat t he ventilat ion slat s are not
covered.
Daily maint enance of the machine and hygiene when handling milk,
coffee and water are key to a perfect coffee result in t he cup every
time. You should therefore change the water daily.
Milk, sparkling mineral water or other liquids can damage the water
tank or the machine.
T Only fill the water tank with fresh, cold water.
T Open the water tank cover.
T Remove the water tank and rinse it with cold water.
T Fill the water tank with fresh, cold water and reinsert the
tank.
T Close the water tank cover.

The bean containers have an aroma preservation cover. This will
ensure that your coffee beans ret ain their aroma for longer.
Co f f e e bea n s w h i c h h av e b e en t rea t e d w i t h a d d i t i v e s ( e. g . su g a r ) ,
ground coffee or freeze-dried coffee will damage the grinders.
T Only use untreated coffee beans to fill the bean containers.
T Remove the aroma preservation cover.
T Remove any dirt or foreign objects from inside the bean
container.
T Fill the bean container with coffee beans and close the
aroma preservation cover.
During first-time use, you can choose between the
‘Quick installa-
tion
and the ‘Standard installation.
U
‘Quick installation: After setting the time and date, your GIGA
is ready for use.
U
‘Standard installation: Here, you can also decide whether you
want to operate your GIGA with or without a CLARIS Blue
f i l t e r c a r t r i d g e . I f t h e w a t e r h a r d n e s s i s 10 ° d H o r m o r e , w e
r e c o m m e n d u s i n g t h e f i l t e r c a r t r i d g e . I f y o u d o n o t k n o w
the hardness of your water, you can find this out first (see
Chap t e r 1 Pr e p a r i n g a n d u si n g f o r t he f i r s t t i m e D e t e r -
mining the water hardness).
U
‘Use filter’ / ‘Active: Here, you can fit the CLARIS Blue filter
cartridge. Descaling will no longer be necessary.
U
‘Use filter’ / ‘Inactive: Here, you can set the water hardness
of the water used. This setting influences when your GIGA
prompts you to perform descaling.
If the machine is operated with a defective mains cable, there is a
danger of potentially fatal electric shock.
T Never use a machine which is damaged or has a defective
mains cable.

the machine.

T Remove and empty the water tank.
T Open the filter holder and insert the filter cartridge into the
water t ank, exert ing slight pressure.
T Close the filter holder. It will click into place audibly.
T Fill the water tank with fresh, cold water and reinsert the
tank.
k T Press the Rotary Switch.
‘Filter is being rinsed., the filter is rinsed. Rinsing of the filter
st ops aut omat i cal ly.
‘Empty drip tray. appears on the dis-
play.
T Empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container and put
them back into the machine.
‘Filter’ / ‘Filter rinsing complete.

test strip supplied as standard.
T Hold the test strip briefly (for 1 second) under flowing water.

T Wait for about 1 minute.
T You will then be able to read the degree of water hardness
from the discolouration of the Aquadu test strip and the
description on the packaging.

fect consistency. The most important requirement for frothing milk

T Connect the other end of the milk pipe to a milk container
or immerse it in a milk carton.

the GIGA stops the operation.
