does not cover minor mechanical adjustments which are not due to any defect in material or workmanship.

OPERATOR’S INFORMATION

READ, UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE

YOU USE THIS UNIT. The instructions are written for a person with some

mechanical ability. Like most service books, not all the steps are described.

Steps on how to loosen or tighten fasteners are steps anyone can follow with

some mechanical ability.

Know your product: If you understand the unit and how the unit operates,

you will get the best performance. As you read this manual, compare the il-

lustrations to the unit. Learn the location and the function of the controls. To

help prevent an accident, follow the operating instructions and the safety

rules. Keep this manual for future reference.

IMPORTANT: Many units are not assembled and are sold in cartons. It is the

responsibility of the operator to make sure the assembly instructions in this

manual are exactly followed. On assembled units, it is the operator’s respon-

sibility to make sure the unit is correctly assembled. The operator must care-

fully check the unit according to the instructions in this manual before it is first

used.

When using electric gardening appliances,

basic safety precautions should always be

followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric

shock and personal injury.

Careless or improper use may cause seri-

ous or even fatal injury.

WARNING

RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OPERATOR

The responsibility of the operator is to follow the instruc-

tions below.

SCarefully read and follow all safety rules. The rules for safe op-

eration and the other instructions in this manual must be re-

viewed with any operator of this unit.

SBefore using the product for the first time, follow all the prepa-

ration instructions.

SMake sure the operator of the unit understands and knows

how to correctly use all the controls.

SCorrectly maintain the unit.

SService the unit only with authorized or approved replacement

parts.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING: Carefully read and understand the Operator’s Manual before

using the tool. Pay close attention to the Operating Instructions and

Safety Warnings.

GENERAL SAFETY RULES

SBattery tools do not have to be plugged into an

electrical outlet; therefore, they are always in

operating condition. Be aware of possible hazards,

such as cutting attachment, even when tool is not

operating. Remove battery before servicing,

cleaning, or removing material from the unit.

SDo not use the unit in rain, in wet conditions, or on

wet surfaces.

SMinors should never be allowed to use the unit.

Keep Children, bystanders, and animals 50 feet

away. If approached stop unit immediately.

SRead all instructions carefully. Become familiar

with the product controls and the proper use of the

unit.

SAlways remain alert. Watch what you are doing,

use common sense. Do not operate this unit if you

are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

SKeep hands away from blades. Do not attempt to

remove cut material or hold material to be cut

when blades are moving. Make sure battery is re-

moved and trigger is not engaged when clearing

jammed material from blades. Do not grasp or lift

unit by the exposed cutting blades.

SDo not use the unit in rain, in wet conditions, or on

wet surfaces.

SDo not handle the unit with wet hands.

SDress correctly for outside work. Wearing sturdy

gloves, non−skid footwear, and safety goggles or

safety glasses with side shields are recommended.

Wear hearing protection.

SUse the tool properly. Use only for the functions for

which it is designed. Do not abuse the unit. Never

force the unit to work at a faster pace than it was

designed.

SKeep lock−off button and other safety devices in

place and in proper working order.

BATTERY AND CHARGER

SBefore using charging stand, read all instructions

and cautionary markings in this manual, on charg-

ing stand, and product using charging stand.

SUse only an identical 12V Murray authorized bat-

tery that was designed for your cordless tools. Use

of any other battery may cause personal injury and

damage the unit.

SAlways exercise care in handling the battery. Con-

ducting materials, such as rings, bracelets, and

keys, should never be used around an un−installed

battery. If these material contact with battery termi-

nals, they may overheat the battery or conductor,

resulting in personal injury.

SUse only the identical Murray authorized battery

charger set that was designed for its matching bat-

tery. Use of any other charger set could cause bat-

teries to explode, resulting in serious personal

injury.

SDo not use charger in or expose charger to rain or

snow. Do not charge battery in a damp or wet loca-

tion.

SDo not place cordless tools or its battery near fire

or heat. It might explode.

SThe battery tool and charger should be charged

and stored in a location where the temperature is

more than 50_F (10_C) but less than 100_F

(38_C).

STo reduce risk of damage to charger cord, pull by

the cord plug, rather than cord, when disconnect-

ing charger.

SMake sure charger cord is located so that it will not

be stepped on, tripped over, or otherwise sub-

jected to damage or stress.

SDo not operate charger with a damaged cord or

plug. Inspect the charger cord periodically. If dam-

aged, have it replaced immediately.

SDo not operate charger if it has received a sharp

blow, been dropped, or otherwise damaged in any

way. If damaged, have it replaced immediately.

SDo not disassemble charger. Incorrect re−assem-

bly may result in a risk of electric shock or fire.

STo reduce risk of electric shock, unplug the charger

from outlet before attempting any maintenance or

cleaning. Do not use charger outdoors.

SDisconnect charger from power supply when not in

use.

SNever dispose of the battery in a fire, as the cell

may explode. Do not disassemble or mutilate the

battery. Released electrolyte is toxic and corrosive,

and may cause personal injury. It may be toxic if

swallowed.

SPlease recycle the battery according to your local

laws.

BEFORE OPERATING

SInspect the unit before use. Replace damaged

parts. Make sure all parts are in place and secure.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

SKeep all bystanders away, especially children and

pets.

SAvoid unintentional starting of the unit. Before in-

serting battery into the unit, be sure power switch

is off. Do not carry the tool with finger on trigger.

SClear the area to be cut before each use. Remove

all objects such as wire, or string which can be

thrown or become entangled in the cutting attach-

ment. Clear the area of children, bystanders, and

pets.

SBe sure the cutting part is not in contact with any-

thing before starting the unit.

WHILE OPERATING

SUse the unit only in daylight or good artificial light.

SAlways stop the unit when operation is delayed or

when walking from one work location to another.

SDo not overreach or use the unit on unstable sup-

port. Keep good footing and balance at all times.

SNever use in an explosive atmosphere. Sparking of

the motor could ignite fumes.

SIf you strike or become entangled with a foreign

object, stop the unit immediately and check for

damage. Do not operate before repairing damage.

Do not operate the unit with loose or damaged

parts.

MAINTENANCE

SRelease the trigger, ensure the lock−off button re-

sets and allow the motor to stop, and remove bat-

tery before maintenance or repair.

SKeep unit clean of vegetation and other materials.

SCheck for damaged parts. Before further use of the

unit, any part that is damaged should be carefully

checked to determine that it will operate properly

and perform its intended function. Check for align-

ment of moving parts, binding of moving parts,

breakage of parts, mounting, and any other condi-

tion that may effect the unit operation. A guard or

other part that is damaged should be properly re-

paired or replaced unless indicated elsewhere in

this manual.

SMaintain cordless tools with care. Keep the handle

dry and clean, and free from oil and grease. In-

spect the unit periodically. Should damage occur,

call us at 1−800−251−8007.

SDo not attempt any maintenance or repair work not

described in your operator’s manual.

SSee that only identical replacement parts are used.

The use of non−standard parts, or other accesso-

ries or attachments not designed for this unit, could

result in serious injury to the user or damage the

tool, and void your warranty.

STORAGE

SClean after each use. Always use a clean cloth

when cleaning the unit. Never use strong deter-

gents, gasoline, petroleum−based products, or any

strong solvents to clean the unit.

SAllow the unit to cool before storing or transporting.

SBe sure to secure the unit while transporting.

SNever douse or squirt the unit with water or any

other liquid. Keep handles dry, clean and free from

debris.

SClean, sharp blades are needed for best and saf-

est performance. Follow maintenance instructions.

SWhen not in use, store the unit indoors in a dry

place, up high or in a locked area, out of the reach

of children.

Save these instructions.

Refer to them often and use them to instruct other users.

If you loan someone this unit, also loan them these instructions.

Removing The Battery

Locate latches on end of each side of battery and

depress to release and remove the battery from

your unit.

Charging The Battery

The battery for this unit has been shipped in a low

charge condition. Charge the battery for at least 8

hours before using.

1. Insert the battery into the charger stand (2).

Make sure that the shape of the battery matches

the shape of the charger stand socket.

2. Press down on battery. Make sure that the

battery engages properly with the charger stand.

3. Plug charger’s barrel connector (1) into the

charger stand (2).

4. Plug the charger (3) into the wall outlet (120V,

60Hz, AC).

5. When the red light is on, the battery is being

charged.

6. Charge the battery for a minimum of 8 hours

before first use and between each use.

7. After charging, disconnect the 12V charger from

the wall outlet and remove the battery from the

charger stand.

Tips and Notes:

SCharge and store the battery in a location where

the temperature is more than 50_F (10_C) but

less than 100_F (38_C). Otherwise the efficiency

of the charging and life of the battery will be

affected.

SThe unit is designed so that the battery can not

be overcharged. The battery can remain on the

charger stand longer than 8 hours.

Installing The Battery

1. Align the raised rib on the battery with the notch

inside the unit housing.

2. Make sure that the latches on each side of the

battery snap in place and that the battery is

secured in the unit before beginning operation.

OPERATING

To Start Unit

The unit is equipped with a lock−off button (1),

which reduces the possibility of accidental starting.

1. Press and hold the lock−off button (1). This

allows the trigger to operate.

2. Depress and hold trigger (2).

3. Release the lock−off button.

To Stop Unit

Release the trigger to stop the unit. (The lock−off

button will reset.)

WARNING: To prevent serious personal

injury, Make sure the lock−off button resets

each time the trigger is released.

Using The Grass Shears

Use the cordless grass shears for decorative

trimming of grass around walkways, trees,

flowerbeds, and etc.

Tips:

SDo not force the unit through dense growth. If

the blades slow down, reduce your pace.

SAvoid trimming too close to dirt, sand or gravel.

This will dull the blades and reduce the cutting

efficiency.

Using The Shrubber

Use the shrubber for trimming and the shaping of

hedges, shrubs, and bushes. Do not trim branches

greater than 3/16 inch in diameter.

WARNING: Keep hands away from blades.

Do not hold cut material when blades are moving.

OPERATING

To Change/Replace The Blades

1. Remove the battery from the unit.

2. Remove the screws that secure the blade (see

figure).

3. Lift the old blade out of the unit.

4. Install the new blade onto the unit body, keep

the flat side of the blade out.

5. Reinstall and tighten the screws to secure the

new blade.

6. Install the battery.

MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE

WARNING: Always stop the unit and re-

move the battery for ANY maintenance.

WARNING: Always use genuine factory

replacement parts.

Before Each Use Check For Damaged/Worn

Parts, especially:

SBlade −− Check for the proper alignment and

binding of blade.

SBattery −− Make sure the battery is properly

installed.

SLock−off Button −− Make sure the lock−off

button resets.

After Each Use Clean Unit And Labels

1. Clean the unit with a damp cloth.

2. Wipe off the unit with a clean, dry, soft cloth.

Lubricating The Shrubber And Shear Blades

1. For easier operation and longer blade life,

lubricate the shrubber and shear blades before

and after each use.

2. Before lubricating, be sure the switch is in the off

position and the battery is removed from the

unit.

3. Apply light machine oil as shown in the following

figure.

Re−sharpening The Shrubber Cutting Blade

1. Allow the shrubber to stop with the cutting blade

and blade guide positioned as shown in the

figure below.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Clamp the blade assembly in a vise and file the

exposed cutting surface of each blade tooth. Be

sure to retain the original angle of tooth when

filing.

4. Remove the shrubber from the vise. Re−install

the battery. Restart and stop the shrubber so

that the unsharpened edges of the blade teeth

are exposed.

5. Remove the battery and repeat the sharpening

procedure as described above.

Do not Re−sharpen The Shear Blades

CLEANING AND STORAGE

Clean And Store The Unit

1. Stop the unit and remove the battery.

2. Clean the unit using a damp cloth with a mild

detergent.

3. Wipe off the unit with a clean, dry, soft cloth.

4. Store the unit and accessories in a dry,

well−ventilated area, out of the reach of children

and other unauthorized user.

WARNING: Do not use any strong deter-

gents on the plastic housing or the handle.

They can be damaged by certain aromatic oils

such as pine and lemon, and by solvents such

as kerosene. Moisture can also cause a shock

hazard. Wipe off any moisture with a soft dry

cloth.

MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE

The battery in the unit is recyclabe. Call

1−800−8−BATTERY or visit the RBRC website at

www.rbrc.org for information on the battery

recycling and disposal bans in your area. Protect

our environment, recycle the battery.
