2. Before you turn on your phone
Make sure you prepare your phone correctly before you press the POWER
button.
Inserting the battery
1. With your finger, open the back cover from the small opening near the
POWER button.
2. Insert the battery (with its exposed copper contacts first) into the
battery compartment.

Replacing the back cover
1. Dock the phone onto the inside bottom of the
back cover.
2. Press the sides and the top part of the back cover
down to lock the cover into place. You’ll hear a
click when the back cover is locked in place.
Charging the battery
Use the supplied power adapter and USB
cable to charge your phone.
Where’s the microSD card?
The microSD card is already inserted into your phone. If you need to
remove the microSD card, just slide it out.
To reinsert, push it in until it clicks into place.

3. Activate your phone
1. Tap the Activate icon on the Home screen
2. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the activation process.
3. After you have completed the wizard, make a phone call to confirm
your activation.
4. Manage Your Account
From your phone
Dial *86 on your phone or just tap My Account on the Home screen to
access your account where you can do any of the following things:
Check your minutes
Add money (Top-Up)
Change plans ... and a lot more
From your computer
Log in with your phone number and Account PIN at virginmobileusa.com
where you can do everything above, and a lot more.
Top-Up your account
To add money to your account and pay for your service, buy Virgin Mobile
Top-Up cards at thousands of retailers. Or, make it really easy by registering
your credit/debit card or PayPal account.

Auto Top-Up
Auto Top-Up is the easiest way to keep your service working. Set it to Top-Up
your account once a month so you can keep emailing, IMing, Tweeting with
Twitter, surfing, and talking. No interruptions, no sweat. Activate Auto Top-Up
and adjust your settings anytime by logging in at virginmobileusa.com.
One-Time Top-Ups
From Your Computer:
If you don’t want to set Auto Top-Up, you can still log in at
virginmobileusa.com whenever you need a quick Top-Up.
From Your Phone:
Just dial *729 on your phone or tap My Account on the Home screen.

5. Your Home screen
It’s easy to personalize the HTC Wildfire S with
colorful skins, useful widgets, and notification sound
sets that you can download directly to your phone.
Personalizing your Home screen
Your Home screen has seven panels that you can
customize. (Just press when on the main Home
screen or pinch the Home screen to see all seven.)
On the Home screen, tap the personalize button
and choose what you want to change.

6. Connect to the Internet
Get online using your phone’s data connection or Wi-Fi.
Using a data connection
It’s simple. When you turn your phone on for the first time and activate it, it
should connect automatically to your mobile operators data service.
Using Wi-Fi
1. From the Home screen, press .
2. Tap Settings > Wireless & networks.
3. Select the Wi-Fi check box to turn Wi-Fi on.
4. Tap Wi-Fi settings, and then choose a Wi-Fi network to connect to.
7. Surfing the web made easy
HTC Wildfire S makes it fun and easy to browse the web on the go. Enjoy
multi-window browsing, and see text on web pages resize and wrap
automatically as you zoom in and out.
You can even quickly look up stuff on Google or Wikipedia just by
highlighting it.
Do one of the following to open the web browser and start surfing the Web:
On the Home screen, tap Internet.
From the Home screen, tap > Internet.

Changing the screen orientation
Turn HTC Wildfire S sideways to display the web browser in landscape
orientation.
Navigating and zooming on a webpage
You can swipe your finger on the screen to navigate and view other
areas of the webpage.
Tap the screen twice quickly to zoom in, then tap the screen twice
quickly again to zoom out. You can also use your fingers to spread or
pinch the screen to zoom in and out.
Opening a new browser window
Open multiple browser windows to make it easier for you to switch from
one website to another.
1. While viewing a webpage, press and then tap Windows.
2. Tap to open a new browser window.
Switching between browser windows
1. While viewing a webpage, do one of the following:
•Press and then tap Windows.
•Pinch the screen (zoom out) until you see the other browser windows.
2. Select the browser window you want to view by sliding your finger on
the screen from right to left.
3. Tap a webpage to display it in full screen.

8. Keep in contact
In the People app, you’ll see your contacts from
your Google Account, Facebook®, and even
your Exchange ActiveSync® account if you’re
signed in to these accounts on your phone.
Aside from their contact details, you’ll also see
their status updates and birthday reminders if
they’re your Facebook or Twitter™ friends.
To add new contacts:
1. From the Home screen, tap > People.
2. Tap Add contact. Then enter the contact information in the relevant
fields.
3. Tap Save.

9. Catch up with friends
Friend Stream connects you to your social
networks. Share and get updates from friends
in popular networks like Facebook and Twitter
in a single feed. With Friend Stream, you can
easily track your friends’ status messages, photo
uploads, notifications, and more — or comment
and post your own.
Updating your status
1. From the Home screen, tap > Friend Stream.
2. Tap the text box that says What’s on your mind? and enter your status
update.
3. Tap and then choose what you want to attach to your tweet or
status update. You can attach a picture, a location on a map, or an app
recommendation.
4. Tap Post.
Commenting on and liking Facebook posts
Tap a person’s status update and do any of the following:
Tap a photo or the album name in the status update to view and
comment on the album photos.
Tap Like or Unlike to rate the person’s status update.
Tap Write a comment and enter what you think about the person’s
status update.

10. Snap, tag, and share
It’s easy to share photos you’ve snapped with the camera on Facebook and other
social networks. Before uploading, you can give it a title and then tag it for all your
friends to see.
1. From the Home screen, tap > Camera.
2. Point the camera at your friends and tap to take the photo.
3. Tap and then tap Facebook for HTC Sense.
4. Enter a caption if you want and then tap Tag this photo.
5. Tap anywhere near a friend.
From the list that shows, select the friend’s name.
6. When finished tagging the photo, tap Done.
7. Tap Upload.
8. Select which album to upload to and set
privacy settings for the uploaded photo.
9. Tap Done.

11. Enjoy apps with your friends
The Android Market has thousands of games and apps that you can
download to your phone. You can recommend your favorites instantly to
your circle of friends so that they can download them too.
For your friends to find the app and download it from Android Market, they
must be using an Android phone.
1. From the Home screen, tap .
2. Press , and then tap Share. You’ll see the list of games and apps that
you’ve downloaded and installed from Android Market.
3. Tap an app, and then choose how to share it.
When your friends see the link in your sent message, email, or status
update, they can just tap the link to go directly to the game or app in
Android Market to download it.

12. Email
If you signed into your Google Account when you first set up your phone,
you’ll be able to send and receive Gmail messages. From the Home screen,
just tap > Gmail.
Use the Mail app to set up and manage your other email accounts such as
webmail, POP3, IMAP, or Exchange ActiveSync accounts.
1. From the Home screen, tap > Mail.
2. On the Choose a mail provider screen, choose the type of email
account to set up.
If you don’t see this screen, press , tap More > New account, and then
choose the type of email account.
3. Enter the Email address and Password for your email account.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to finish setting up your email
account.
In the Mail app, you can check your email
messages just in one place without having to
switch to different accounts. Just choose the
All accounts inbox. Email messages are color
coded so you can easily distinguish which
email accounts they belong to.

13. Get HTC Sync
You can use the HTC Sync software to sync contacts, calendar, and other
information between your computer and your phone.
1. On your computer, download the HTC Sync installer (HTCSync.exe)
from htc.com/us/support.
2. Double-click HTCSync.exe and follow the onscreen instructions to
install HTC Sync on your computer.
3. Connect your device to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
4. On the Choose a connection type screen, tap HTC Sync and then tap
Done.
5. Enter the name you want for your device, and then click Save.
6. Choose the information to sync between your computer and your
device and how you want to sync your selections..
7. Unmount your phone as required by your computer’s operating
system to safely remove it.
Visit our support website (htc.com/us/support) from time to time to check
for the most recent HTC Sync upgrade so you can download and install it.
14. Open and read documents
You can download a PDF viewer from Android market to open PDF
documents or PDF email attachments.
Your user manual is available on our website (www.htc.com/support).
Download Quickoffice from the HTC Hub to open and view documents
(.doc), spreadsheets (.xls), Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt) and text (.txt) files.
